Big Momma's House 1 & 2 (2011)

Big Momma's House 1 & 2Several male comedians' have (in the movies) a character best described as their "alter-ego', ie: a character of the opposite sex engaged in an adventure of some sort or another.

Back in the day Flip Wilson had 'Geraldine', then Eddie Murphy with his (I forgot the name) and of course Tyler Perry's 'Medea'.

Well, Martin Laurence has 'Big Momma'. As far as my tastes go Big Momma is the best! She's sweet, funny, really not gross at all (as these characters' are wont to get, well there are a few, er, moments). Something about the way Martin Laurence executes his character is pleasing...and funny! No F-bombs, just a tad innuendo (ie: a wink wink to the camera) to remind the viewer that it is a male character playing a female role.

Big Momma #1 and Big Momma #2 are great as a set. Big Momma is not a one-trick-pony. The character has depth (to a degree) and the movies' are family friendly, crazy, and good for more than a few gut busting laughs!

I do think Big Momma #1 is the better of the two. Big Momma #2 is kinda like a re-do of #1 and drags abit. Big Momma's House #1 is ****, Big Momma's House #2 is **1/2. Average it out to @ ***1/2 for the set.

We bought this as a gift for our nephew for Christmas and he was really happy with it . He only wanted the first one the price for the two of them was hard to resist .

It is worth the money I paid for it. I think that any color and any age can watch these movies and laugh. It is a family movie that brings people together and makes them see life as humorous. There may be some gun scenes that may not be appropriate for children but overall, I think they took big mama and really made a movie that was unique and different fromother movies. Would buy again, well worth the money.

The Pool Boys (2011)

The Pool BoysThere have been a million teenage sex romps made through the years, and there will be a million more. With such a vast pool (no pun intended, okay--maybe it was intended) to choose from, it becomes increasingly difficult for a film to distinguish itself from the enormous pack. "The Pool Boys" is a lightweight endeavor that may certainly appease those looking for something familiar and comfortable. I would never compare this film to "American Pie," but the DVD proudly proclaims the distinction "From the Creators of American Pie" as it wishes to cash in on that film's popularity. To my mind, "The Pool Boys" plays more like the slapstick cousin of "Risky Business" minus any element of realism. It's pure silly escapism--harmless enough if you like that sort of thing, but lacking any real cleverness or outrageousness. The movie tries for shocking craziness, but it carts out tired cliches, stock characters, and expected sight gags that feel cobbled together from a dozen different movies. The actors certainly try to sell it, it just doesn't seem particularly fresh.

Brett Davern plays a recent graduate who, thorough a twist of circumstances, comes to Los Angeles to work a summer job for his successful cousin (Matthew Lillard). Of course, Lillard might have been overstating his success story and is really just a pool cleaner. The two start working together for a roster of wacky and eccentric clients, but a new business opportunity soon presents itself in the form of a squeaky clean escort (Rachelle Lefevre). Before you can say "prostitution comedy," the trio have holed up in a Hollywood mansion and solicited the locals for a wild sex party. Of course, if you've seen any number of these movies--nothing will come as a surprise to you. It isn't nearly as racy and titillating as it seems to believe it is. Oh, here's someone getting whipped, here's someone dressed like a dog, here's Tom Arnold unconvincingly (and quite loudly) playing himself. Of every joke or visual gag, I'd say that 90% have been utilized in other films of a similar nature. The movie isn't content to be just a ribald sex romp, though, it also wants to be sweetly romantic.

Look, I'm not criticizing the genre. If you want to be rude and provocative, go for it! Don't play it safe, be really outrageous! Lillard (and his ill-fitting speedo) may be the film's saving grace. He actually strikes an interesting balance between obnoxious and likable. He should set his sights higher, though, he's getting a little old to keep capitalizing on his man/child persona (heck, he plays a significant role in the Oscar contender The Descendants). Here's the deal. "The Pool Boys" is a silly movie that has no pretensions or aspirations other than to be a silly movie. That's fine and can certainly be entertaining. I just wish more of its ideas and humor hadn't been so familiar and so expected. For most of the movie, I felt like I was watching a sitcom rerun as opposed to something new and original. KGHarris, 12/11.

Just bought the DVD on Amazon and absolutely LOVED it! definitely one of the funniest movies i've seen in a while. All I want to do now is go eat at Olive Garden! hahaha. Rochelle is breathtakingly gorgeous and Brett Davern and Matthew Lillard are quite the dynamic duo! Can't wait to see more of Brett in MTVs Awkward now!

Hilarious movie! One word: statue. And I have never held the Olive Garden to the high esteem I now do omg, too funny! Matthew Lillard and Rachelle Lefevre were great in this and I really love all the old favs like George Takei and Tom Arnold that make some of the scenes in the film so memorable. Efren Ramirez the dancing is priceless. For the guys, plenty of hot chicks scantily clad Patricia de Leon and Sheena Lee and a ton more. All-in-all a fun way to vegge out and let off some steam for an hour and a half. Definitely will see again and again!

Mars Attacks! (2010)

Mars Attacks!Hollywood has made movies from books, TV shows, even other movies. However, "Mars Attacks" may be the first time a movie was made from a trading card.

Back in the late 1960s, Topps Cards created a line of Mars Attacks trading cards. However, these cards were pulled off the shelves after only a few months because the aliens depicted on them were considered to be too gruesome. My, how times have changed.

Director Tim Burton has taken those old trading cards and recreated them into this Sci-Fi B-movie throwback. In the process, he has created a movie that is pure, guiltless fun.

"Mars Attacks" also benefits from an all-star cast, including Jack Nicholson (in a dual-role), Michael J. Fox, Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Martin Short, Danny Devito, Glenn Close, Natalie Portman, Tom Jones, Annette Bening, Lukas Haas, Jim Brown, and many others. The fact that you get to watch the aliens disentegrate (and otherwise kill) many of these stars only adds to the fun. Unfortunately, Tom Jones wasn't one of those unlucky stars. Maybe someday a sequel will be made that will rectify that. :)

Oh yeah........ did I happen to mention that Congress gets vaporized? This proves that the Martians aren't all bad!

The DVD comes with many extras, including quite a few production notes that helps you to understand how the movie came to be. This is one movie that you will want to see over and over again (especially anytime that Congress is getting on your nerves).

Tim Burton outdoes himself with this silly, but funny, spoof of 1950s flying saucer/alien invasion movies. It is absolutely zany and quite funny. There is also nothing politically correct about it, as there are no sacred cows. The film is totally irreverent of American culture and icons. Everything and everyone is fair game.

Martians have come to Earth, and they do not come in peace. Diabolical and deadly, they are bent on wreaking havoc wherever they go with their death ray guns, which serve to incinerate living beings. These bulbous headed martians with their own brand of deadly humour are hell bent on destroying Earth, while laughing and cackling maniacally.

The special effects are meant to to be reminiscent of those found in 1950s UFO flicks and in this it certainly succeeds. The cast is stellar with Jack Nicholson playing dual roles, that of President James Dale and that of entrepreneur Art Dale. Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael J. Fox, Rod Steiger, Jim Brown, Natalie Portman, Sylvia Sydney, Paul Winfield, Pam Grier, Lisa Marie, Christine Applegate, Lukas Haas, and Tom Jones round out the star studded cast. With tongue in cheek performances, the viewer is bound to get a good laugh out of this film.

Having spent an hour or so reading every review of this movie on the site, I have come to the conclusion that most of the people who did not like it, were simply not bright enough to "get it". Most of the humor in this movie is sophisticated satire and irony. i.e. you need a brain to understand what the joke is. Unfortunately it seems that that leaves about 70% of the population out in the cold sort of speak.

Also, a lot of the reviewers here trash the acting and imply that the big name actors were "only in it for the money", yet are unaware of the fact that most of those "big stars" clamored to be in this movie at lower pay scales than they are used to. Then they go on about how 2 dimensional or "broad" the acting is. Well, ..Duhhh! It's a cartoonish satirical comedy based on a series of bubblegum cards. It's *meant* to be that way.

Finaly, a lot of those who hate this movie compare it unfavorably to (their favorites), ID4 or Armageddon or some such trash as that.

Nuff said.

There is nothing serious about this film. It is satire all the way and it is very good satire which takes potshots at all sorts of institutions.

The story is as simple as an old B/W science fiction movie. Earth is being invaded by Martians with superior techology and little reguard for eathlings. Instead of being an "end of the world" type picture, however, it is comedy. It is comdedic because there is a grain of truth in the elements used for the comedy:

The President is worried more about poll numbers on reactions to the Martians than about invasion.

The first lady is worried more about interior decorating than advancing ray guns.

The egghead professor manages to be wrong about just about everything he speaks of.

Reporters are shallow and vain.

The military just wants to play with its toys.

Bad music can be a deadly influence.

New Age people haven't a clue as to the real world.

Teenagers often have a better handle on things than the grownups.

It's enough to make you root for the Martians. This one is fun, irreverant and a feast of oddball ideas. What else could be expected from Tim Burton?

The first time I saw this movie, I thought it was a big dissappointment. Then I started to think about it. Usually, when I dislike something for no reason that I can really put my finger on, it is because it has challenged my expectations in some way. For this reason, I like to re-examine my feelings about those things. And often, after reflection, I realize what it is that disturbs me, and I realize why the thing that I hate addresses that, and often it makes me enjoy the thing I "Hated" more.

This movie is like that. One of the things that bothered me so much was the lack of reason for the alien attack, and their resulting brutality. A little after I watched the movie, I found out why this is so, while reading a book "Lies My Teacher Told Me," which related the following tale concerning Columbus:

In 1492, Colomubus landed in what is now the Dominican Republic. He got off of the boat, and read a short proclimation that said (essentially,) "I am taking this place over, you must now immediatly renounce your pagan gods, convert to Christianity, claim Isabella of Spain as your ruler, or I will make you slaves, and you will work until you die, and I will not be held responsible for your souls." Columbus read this proclimation in Spanish, which of course, none of the native people of the Dominican Republic could understand. They greeted him with a huge party, and Columbus proceeded to decimate the natives. The Spaniards forced the Indians to work, and rode on their backs rather than walk from place to place. Does this not strike you as ridiculous? The same kind of mindless destruction for the sake of destruction that the movie portrays?

What disturbed me about the movie was it's quiet censure of our society, our modern world, our own arrogance. In this movie we get our comeuppance, and it is delivered with the same heartless passion that our uncivilized ancestors imposed on the indigenous populations. There is no why or how, there is only the relentless onslaught of a technologically superior race that finds glee in our destruction, who no doubt, intend to usurp our world.

In the War of the Worlds, we are saved by Influenza, in real life, Influenza and small pox, brought by Euroopeans, decimated indigenous populations. Wells original parallel was intended to be a subtle irony, a tribute to our tiniest, and most unobtrusive weapon.

Here we are saved by Slim Whitman's "Indian Love Call," an outrageous twist, but not one without it's irony. Whitman wrote the song as an appeal to the romanticization of the American Indian that occurred in the late 50's. It bears no real ties to native american lore or tradition, other than it's name. It is a romantic view of a past that never happened, our "plasticization" of the very people we've killed. Isn't it odd that we would be saved by a cheesy lounge song written about a people we killed with smallpox and war, while we are being decimated with no hope of survival, in much the same manner? Its doubly ironic that something so insidious, both in sound, and concept, should turn out to be invariably fatal to our invaders. Our bad taste killed them.

I might suggest to those that are easily angered when their expectations of an "Independance Day" style romp are foiled, that they examine their dissappointment and ask themselves, "why did this bother me so much?" When you do, you'll often find that you are being challenged to think or look at a thing in another light by your brain, which is often smarter than you might think.

Rifftrax: Live! Christmas Short-Stravaganza! - San Diego 2009 Blu-ray

Rifftrax: Live! Christmas Short-Stravaganza! - San Diego 2009 Blu-rayI attended the live production in Escondido with friends and it was a delight. Mike, Kevin, & Bill briefly chatted us up while we waited in line, which was really cool.

The show, unlike other Fathom live broadcasts ("Plan 9 From Outer Space", House on Haunted Hill" & "Reefer Madness"), consisted solely of shorts. As this was a Christmas themed show, they managed to scrounge up some odd little yule tide gems. Whether it was the night-terrors inducing "Christmas Dream" or the creepy and uncomfortable "Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer". No, I'm not talking about the beloved Christmas staple, the Rankin-Bass claymation classic, but the Max Fleischer cartoon, made in 1948. Trust me, it's bizarre and the guys lampoon it's creepiness.

another short gives us the insecure musings of a small tree called, "Christmas Rhapsody". "A visit to Santa's Workshop", has that cheap, hokey 1960's patina that makes you laugh just watching it. Mike, Kevin & Bill's quips only make you laugh harder. The similiarly titled, "Santa's Toyshop", offers us unfunny pratfalls, a demonic-looking Mr. Sandman, a top hat wearing spider, and a platoon of toy soldiers looking to kick some chapeu wearing archnid ass!

The last two shorts aren't really holiday related. There's the 1950's offering of Hollywood actors cavorting in and around a pool for charity. Though there are a few amusing riffs in this short (The name escapes me), it was my least favorite. The other was a bit of a treat, having the talented weird Al Yankovic join in the riffing of "Three Magic Words", a short extolling the virtues of Pork. This film features the neverending harmonizing of a singing trio, The Jesters, as they instruct the world's dumbest blonde on how to make a great pork dinner. The guys really seemed to enjoy riffing this swine story, and cracked several good lines.

Interspliced in between the shorts were a look at some funny tv ads for toys made in the 50's and 60's. Since I'm roughly the same age as the Rifftrax gang, I enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

If you are a fan of the MST3K and, in particular, a fan of their riffing of shorts then you'll love this DVD. Make it part of your Christmas tradition; sitting in your favorite chair stuffing generous amounts of bacon down your maw, while watching Santa express his deepest, sorted, filthy desires to a reindeer.

Other than that, I've watched this four times since purchasing this a little over a month ago and still laugh. Saw this in the theater and as goofy as everything is, it put me in the Christmas mood. The riffing being done in front of a live audience makes a big difference. There was a little bit at the end of the theatrical show that doesn't make it into this DVD -a 1 or 2 minute taped sequence where the guys spew pixelized vomit in their office -but outside of that and the funny pre-show movie trivia, you are getting the full show. As noted elsewhere, all the shorts are about Christmas except two -one about pork and another about swimming in Hollywood. I enjoyed the pork short but the swimming one didn't have the density of gags as the other shorts. That aside, this is a DVD I could watch again and again since many shorts or portions of each are hilariously riffed. The Christmas Dream is worth the price of admission along with the David Lynch Christmas short and the mutilation of the tree of no account in Christmas Rhapsody.

It also pays to be a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 to understand the audience reaction to Prince of Space.

Sincerely,

Big McLarge Huge

The guys of Rifftrax are back, live and in living color with their sharp wits and clever lines ready to aim at some of the worst shorts based around the wonderful holiday of Christmas. Before and after each short the guys keep the live audience entertained with their banter.

"Christmas Toyshop"-Two kids are visited by a creepy sandman who helps them dream of christmas, and chatting with Santa who couldn't look more uninterested if he tried. Meanwhile their dad plays Santa and tries to set up the tree and the gifts, too bad he's a stumbling idiot. Oh and there's also a story that Santa tells the children in the form of a bunch of toys fighting a giant spider. The jokes are quite good here as the material is just the right kind of goofy for them.

"A Visit to Santa"-Ultra cheap one here where two children want to meet Santa so they write a letter to him, he reads it in his lazyboy in a basement (I kid you not). The kids are brought to Santa's shop by an elf and they see all the toys that are made. It is such a creepy, cheap and awful film that the guys use some of their best jokes in this one. So hilarious throughout.

"Christmas Rhapsody"-We see the littliest tree in a forest cut down and used as a christmas tree for a family. Thats about it folks, however the guys do get some good jokes off at this one.

"Three Magic Words"-Weird Al Yankovic joins the guys for this odd film about three guys who sing about the wonders of cooking, preparing and serving different dishes using pork. Its really odd and kinda creepy how the three guys keep popping up at odd times, but most of the jokes are funny even Weird Al fits in fine.

Mike and Bill present a gift to Kevin in the form of an old commercial about a battery operated dog named Gaylord. A few good jokes here, but its over before you know it.

"Twas The Night Before Christmas"-The classic rhyme is told as a family gets ready for bed to wake up Christmas morning, the dad sees Santa and his reindeer taking off to start delivering presents. Its well meaning but still pretty bad, thankfully the guys do a great job with this one.

Kevin and Mike present a gift to Bill, a commercial for some flight simulator called Jimmy Jet, which is very short, but the skit they do afterwards was funny.

"A Christmas Dream"-A girl gets some new gifts for christmas and casts her old doll to the side, but that night Santa comes in and makes the young girl dream the old doll coming to life. What follows is a series of creepy stuff the doll does to impress the girl enough so she won't get rid of it again. The guys do some great work here as they just seem stunned by the sheer madness of this short.

"Parade of Aquatic Champions"-Some footage of random people competiting in various swimming games, while a narrator talks about who they are. Its not a christmas short but it is quite funny as they always do well with these dull shorts.

Bill and Kevin present their gift to Mike which is the famous and very disturbing commercial for the toy named Ding-a-Ling. Oh the reactions alone are worth watching this.

"Rudolph: The Red Nosed Reindeer"-A 1940's cartoon retelling of the classic christmas tale of the world's most famous reindeer. The problem with this one is the images and suggestive material was horrifying on its own. Thankfully the guys rip on just about everything here and the funniest line of the night comes when Kevin reacts to something Santa says to Rudolph which causes the theater to explode in laughter for about 30 seconds straight.

This is a fun dvd which shows the guys at some of their high points as they have fun with some of the worst Christmas films ever.

Want Rifftrax: Live! Christmas Short-Stravaganza! - San Diego 2009 Blu-ray Discount?

This 90-ish minute collection of Christmas-related shorts (plus a couple of non-Christmas efforts for good measure) is easily the best release from the Rifftrax crew yet. These guys really seem to hit their stride with short films. The highlights are "A Visit to Santa's Workshop", featuring two kids who speak incoherently and a Santa that sounds like a wise guy (the Rifftrax crew suggest that it was made by David Lynch), and a Rudolph cartoon that turns inexplicably suggestive to the point that the audience is just screaming laughter and the riffers miss some lines. These shorts would have you on the floor laughing even without the riffing.

There's also three old commercials for toys that will leave you going "Wow. Just...wow."

Plus, Weird Al Yankovic guest riffs one of the shorts.

My two negatives for this release...There are times where it's hard to understand what the riffers are saying...Kevin in particular...because of the echoing sound of the live performance. And it would have been nice if they included the shorts as standalone extra features.

Still...this will be the funniest Christmas show you own. A must for your Christmas collection.

Bunty Aur Babli (2005)

Bunty Aur BabliBunty Aur Babli (Bunty And Babli) are the Bollywood equivalent of Bonnie and Clyde. Both misunderstood by their families, and longing for more from life, Rakesh and Vimmi each leave home to follow their dreams. Fate or circumstance brings them together. Closed doors and corrupt dealings keep them together. Frustrated after a bank manager steals his get rich scheme, Rakesh devises a plan to con the con man. On the run, Rakesh and Vimmi become Bunty and Babli. Thus begins an adventure that leads them from Lucknow to Delhi with many stops in between.

The evolving relationship between the two main characters is enchanting, despite the nefarious nature of their partnership. Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee have a wonderful chemistry as the engaging criminal couple. Their characters are well developed, allowing the viewer to see beyond their unlawful behavior, to the warm-hearted souls that they truly are. Bunty and Babli charm everyone they meet, including Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dashrath Singh (played by Amitabh Bachchan). The film has elements of Catch Me if You Can, as DCP Singh tries to track them.

Bunty repeats the aphorism "Yeh world hai na world... Isme do tarah ke log hotey hai... (This world has two kinds of people . . . ) several times throughout the film. It seems to have become almost a philosophy for him, in an effort, perhaps to make sense of a world that doesn't seem to understand him.

I was drawn to this film after watching one of the musical numbers on You Tube. Kajra Re is pure Bollywood song and dance, and the special appearance by the stunning Aishwarya Rai is the icing on the cake. The songs in the film are captivating and memorable, and the incongruous sight of Amitabh Bachchan rapping during the end credits was a delightful end to the experience. One of the most delightful and characteristic aspects of Bollywood films is the way in which the musical numbers can transport the characters into totally different settings, as a means to portray a particular emotion or event.

As with most Bollywood films, it is quite long, at 170 minutes. With non-stop action and song-and-dance numbers, I hardly noticed the time passing. If you've never seen a Bollywood film, this one would be a great introduction.

The one issue I had was the tendency of the subtitles to flash by too quickly, near the beginning of the film. As the action began, this was much less of an issue, and did not detract from the enjoyability of the film.

I think this movie was part "Bonnie & Clyde" and part "Catch Me If You Can". The story was pure fantasy, but totally engaging and fun. The songs were catchy, and I find myself humming the tunes even a couple of weeks after watching the movie. There is also a cameo (song) by Aishwarya Rai (best song of the movie) to look forward to. Great fun!

Buy Bunty Aur Babli (2005) Now

BUNTY AUR BABLI is a fun movie. For American viewers it's BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE Meets BONNIE AND CLYDE. Bunty (the guy) and Babli (the girl) are both so good natured and so good looking that it's hard to remember that they're grifters.

Actually, they aren't. They're just two kids from small towns looking to escape the family business (Bunty) and a traditional arranged marriage (Babli). They run off (separately), meet, and begin a long string of criminal misadventures, mostly defrauding obnoxious rich people, all the while having a blast.

The film is seemingly endless, and presents us with (at least) one of everything onscreen, including the kitchen sink. Flashy dance club routines break up the action, characters come and go in profusion, the storyline wanders more than an Indian mendicant on his way to Varanasi, and somewhere inside the third hour of the film the typical American viewer comes to realize that Bollywood loves colorful excess and pretty people. Not too different from Hollywood, really.

On the heels of their award-winning performances as an abusive thug and his suffering wife in Yuva (2004), Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji are paired again, this time, in lighter fare--the romantic comedy Bunty Aur Babli--playing a hen-pecked con artist and his vivacious partner in crime--and their delivery is just as strong.

Amitabh Bachchan appears with his son Abhishek for the first time in this film--and they went on to memorable onscreen collaborations in Sarkar (2005), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Sarkar Raj (2008), and Paa (2009). Here, the senior Bachchan--a jack of all genres--plays Dashrath, a cool, crusty police detective, and he hams it up to the fullest in bomber jacket and aviator sunglasses while hot on the trail of two notorious small-town kids on a crime spree. His interaction with his son's character, Rakesh, is a riot.

Director Shaad Ali's previous film Saathiya (2002), which also starred Mukerji, was a serious story also about impulsive young lovers who strike out on their own, and here again, Ali creates vivid working-class characters, and his signature metaphor of train travel figures largely.

Rakesh meets Vimmi (Mukerji) in a train station after both have run away from home. They're dreamers who want more out of life than their parents imagine for them, and they're frustrated with the limitations of their upbringings. Believing they're destined for bigger and better things--Vimmi wants to be Miss India and Rakesh has a business idea--and delighted to discover a kindred spirit, they hit the road together. When their plans are a bust, they start scamming for money--and they have so much fun doing it, they don't want to stop. They hilariously impersonate government officials, spiritual gurus, gangsters, and business partners to trick people into giving them free meals, hotel rooms, cars, and cash. They adopt the names Bunty and Babli and leave their initials at every crime scene as they crisscross North India at a frenetic pace and gain fame as a crime duo. Finally, they're successful and important, as they always hoped to be.

While they start out as pals, it's inevitable that this reckless, passionate couple fall in love. After all, they argued like an old married couple from day one--so they make it official. But once hitched, everything changes. Suddenly, Vimmi has different priorities, and they have to find a way to be true to themselves while taking responsibility for each other. But that's not an easy thing to do with Dashrath always one step behind them.

Kung Fu Dunk

Kung Fu DunkI love Kung Fu movies and there are not enough good ones out there. I know people love Jackie Chan, he's fun to watch, but all of his fight scenes look so choreographed. The kid is this movie is AWESOME! The fight scene in the bar is amazing! He is very fast and extremely fluid and when the scene was over I jumped out of my seat and cheered. Yes, this movie is kind of silly, but that adds to the charm and overall entertainment this movie offers. Movies are not supposed to be realistic. If a movie can take your mind on a mini vacation away from reality for 90 minutes or more it has done its job, and this movie does that.

My wife shopped for this Movie everywhere, and finally we found it on Amazone! Great place to shop, and trust worthy as well! Excellent movie, and thanks for getting it to us on time.

Wholesome, family-friendly fun. You may need to struggle through some subtitles, but this is way better than any of that Air Bud nonsense.

Our story begins with great cinematography (only early in the movie), an orphaned infant and a note. The child is raised by a kung fu master and trained with all of the clichéd wisdom behind the yins, yangs and qi ("chi") of the universe and one's self. After the untimely death of his master, Fang Shijie (Jay Chou) grows up as a kind-hearted yet semi-rebellious kung fu student.

Fang gets involved with some of the wrong people and gets expelled from his kung fu school. But his skillful aim is quickly discovered by friendly hustler who directs his hands to basketball. It turns out that Fang's skill in kung fu translates well, making him a 100% free thrower even from half court...that is, when there's no pressure or opposition. His greatest opposition is from the team captain, who has a drinking problem that is presented in a rather family-friendly way.

Fang needs to learn the basic skills of the game and teamwork to be able to utilize his world class arm. Through the support of his teammates and hard work he develops into a fine player.

Strong elements of comedy and classic kung fu theater action-isms mesh well with modern, stylistic camerawork. The fighting and stunts are good (not great), and are not the focus of this movie after the first act. This movie is about basketball and teamwork.

The greatest thing about this movie is that Fang's skill is never met with arrogance. He is always humble. He wants to be an appreciated member of the team in addition to showing what he can do. He also helps his team captain "defeat" his drinking problem.

The only bad thing about this family flick is part of the finale during the final game. At this point hokey-wholesome turns uber-ridiculous when Fang's kung fu school masters come to his aid with their weird, Harry Potter-esque personalities. This scene also made everything about Fang instead of him being part of the team. Thankfully, after 5-10 minutes of this, it's back to teamwork along with an unfortunately slow but happy ending.

I absolutely loved this movie. It had all the comedy, romance, and plain goodness I look for in a movie. It didn't bore me at all. I would definitely watch this movie over and over again. The cover and synopsis really made me misjudge the movie but it is greater than it seems. Definitely watch this movie. Too good to miss!!!!

If you're looking for a bad B movie to check out with horrible writing this is a nice piece. It's fun to laugh over with some friends and drinks.

Aspen Extreme

Aspen Extreme"Dexter Rutecki lived a life that was short and funny and sad and hard and good. Most of the time it was good. It was good the day he died. The snow was deep and pure white. The sun high and cold. He was my best friend."

This film, while some will cry "Predictable", is entirely watchable and utterly enjoyable, almost to the point of sin. Granted, it's not "Chicago", "Phantom of the Opera" (2004 version), "Dances with Wolves", or "Titanic". However, it is certainly not cutting room floor crap either, and WAY better than "Hot Dog" because it doesn't rely on nudity to sell the story. Come to think of it, that's probably why the film wasn't a smash at the box office. YES! That's it! I'm sure of it! No nudity, that remains this film's fatal fault for the vast majority of America.

As for me, this film deals with far more human issues than simply throwing the odd breast on the screen to drawn in crowds. No, this film deals with two friends desire to attain success together (and not in that way).

This is an overall good film if one can manage to see the issues at hand. A man's climb to the top, the value of friendship, and the horror when your world comes crashing down. Then, yes, there is death, remorse, and dealing with all of those feelings in a way that leaves you among the living.

Predictable, yes, but if it wasn't it would either be "too real life" or "depressing". So what if it's predictable. That is why we see films. We watch to either be happy, or sad, or vindicated. Predictability is a good thing. If it wasn't, you'd take your date to what was supposed to be a "chick flick" and need a ride home at the end.

Bravo for predictability and Bravo for Aspen Extreme. It's a fine film and a guilty pleasure sure to be watched countless times over.

This will be a short review chances are, if you're reading this, you're already a fan of the movie and looking to see how the blu ray release turned out. I won't review the movie itself other than to say I liked it quite a bit enough to buy the DVD a few years ago only to be extremely disappointed in the picture and audio quality (likewise with the other Mill Creek disc I purchased, "Indian Summer"). Thankfully, those issues have all been fixed and the blu-ray is a fine release mind you, this isn't a reference quality disc and there are no extras what-so-ever (the menu consists of 'Play' and 'Scenes'). But the picture is finally presented in 'anamorphic' widescreen which was all I was really hoping for to begin with. In fact, the picture is more vibrant than I expected I'm fairly certain there wasn't any sort of restoration done, but it looks pretty darn good nonetheless. The other nice surprise is the DTS-HD Master soundtrack again, not reference, but it sounds quite nice and many times better than the DVD. Bottom line: for the price, this is an easy purchase for fans of the movie looking to upgrade from the awful DVD. If you haven't seen it, give it a shot for a 90's film about a couple of down-n-out guys looking to live out their dreams of hitting the big slopes, it's probably deeper than you're expecting. Enjoy!

First off, I love this movie. Sure, it's a bit ridiculous, but I like the characters, and the skiing footage is great. I'd probably give the movie itself 4 stars, but the DVD production deserves 2 stars, at best.

Issue 1: The video transfer is not very good. I did a side-by-side comparison with my VHS version, and the DVD image isn't much of an improvement. The colors are a little brighter, but the image isn't any sharper, and there is even dust evident on the DVD transfer. But what's worse is the letterboxing. I prefer to see all my movies in the original aspect ratio, so I was excited to finally see a widescreen version of Aspen Extreme. However, I was incredibly disappointed to discover that the 1.85-to-1 aspect ratio was achieved by cropping the top and bottom of the VHS image, rather than restoring the sides of the frame.

Issue 2: There is no Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. As you would expect from a not-so-popular catalog title, it didn't receive any special sound treatment. All you get is the Dolby 2.0 surround.

Issue 3: And finally, as you would expect, this title received no extra treatment in the special features department. Granted, with the ...price tag, you probably weren't expecting much, but if you didn't already know, this is the movie only. There's not even a theatrical trailer.

In short, if you already have the VHS version of this movie, don't bother to buy the DVD version. It's not offering you anything you don't already have.

I watched this movie thinking it would be some shallow t&a moviebut one with great ski sequences (which I why i thought it worth a look). How wrong I was!

Aspen Extreme is one of the rare films about male friendship that gets its right.

It portrays, as few films do, how a close male friend can simultaneously be your emotional anchor and greatest competitor. Dexter and TJ ( the main characters) have that complexity and paul gross and peter berg are great actorsyou actually believe they are lifelong friends who need each other, even while they know they may be going in different directions as they get older.

The ski sequences are excellent and teri polo shows why she should have become a major star a decade ago (if there was any justice in the world)

the only negativefiona hughes was too one dimensional and not on par with the three leadsyou never once get the feeling this person is a successful businesswoman!

the plot twist towards the end is a little shockingbut moving and effective.

If you love to ski or snowboard (especially if you love the 80's) you must see this film. It pretty much (along with Hot Dog!) defines the 80's ski scene. Great stunts, good story line and awesome clothes and soundtrack make this the perfect film to enjoy watching after a long day on the slopes (drink in hand of course!).

De Dana Dan (Comedy Hindi Film / Bollywood Movie / Indian Cinema) (2009)

De Dana Dant has some of the funniest scenes in a movie this year. Akshay needed more scenes in the 2nd half, but he did quite well. Suniel was okay. Paresh was funny and loud. Kat had no scope, same with Sameer. Neha acted well. Johnny was amazing, this movie belongs to him.

What I liked about the movie:

Akshay, Johnny, Paresh, Neha, climax, songs

What I didn't like about the movie:

Weak story, Akshay needed more scenes

Would you recommend this movie to your friend: Yes

User Movie Rating: 3/5

This movie has funny moments and really good songs, but the story line was very confusing to follow. There is so much going on and lots of people involved and it took me a couple times of watching in order to understand what was happening.

De Dana Dan is an unpretentious movie of the slap stick variety and desperately wants to entertain its audience but despite having Sunil Shetty, Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, the trio who were so funny in Hera Pheri fails. De Dana Dan is about a kidnapping of a dog. Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty decide to kidnap a dog which belongs to Akshay's boss and demand a ransom. The ransom is to be delivered at a hotel where a host of other characters have embarked for a wedding. As it would, identities are confused and chaos ensues. This identity chaos was hilarious in Hungaama and Hera Pheri but just does not work in this film. There are too many characters and they don't have any chemistry because the writing is poor. I love pedestrian and corny comedies but hated this one. One star for this mess. 2.8.11

I wish I could have given this movie less than half a star, but unfortunately this is not an option. Please skip this movie if you hate to see water wasted, shamelessly wasted by a group of actors who will do anything for money. This is one mess of a film; it's a mixture of bad dialogue, misplaced loyalties, confusion between families, mistaken identities, and the worst usage of water I have ever seen. It is made equally shameless when these very same actors stand in front of audiences and talk about Global Warming and other issues pertinent to India, especially the issue of water. What a bunch of pathetic hypocrites! It pains me to see the talents of actors like Rajpal Yadev and Paresh Rawel wasted in this horrendous display of acting. Now, I will admit there are moments in the film that are funny. But it goes without saying that 99% of the actors in this film can't act and are not worth watching. Did I mention that it is also very long and monotonous?
