I Love You Phillip Morris (2010)

I Love You Phillip Morris"I Love You Philip Morris" tells the real life story of Steven Jay Russell, who in 1998 received an unprecedented 144-year prison sentence for fraud, conning, impersonating, and multiple escapes from Houston's Harris County Jail. The film shows us sequences that seem utterly impossible, but in fact actually happened, which only goes to show that truth really is stranger than fiction. No, I will not describe them to you. Enjoying the film depends on the audience's reaction to Russell's actions. It's a little like a magician revealing his secrets; the trick itself is a lot of fun, but seeing what went into making the trick work can be quite fascinating, especially when you realize just how much effort goes into making something look simple. The apparent ease with which he executes his schemes is equally mind boggling.

Jim Carrey's portrayal of Russell is a delightful bag of contradictions. He's funny but touching, exaggerated but believable, contemptible but justified, caring but manipulative. There are times when it seems like he's thinking of no one other than himself, and there are other times when it's clear that he does what he does out of love. It's a daring, complex performance, and it's for reasons other than the fact that his character is gay; it establishes that Carrey is capable of something deeper than outlandish personalities and extreme physical comedy. His take on Russell is engaging, although it's not necessarily understandable. This isn't a criticism. Sometimes, it's preferable for audiences to figure out characters for themselves, for them to put their own spin on why certain people are they are way they are.

We're given a small glimpse of his childhood, in which he learns that he was adopted. We then flash forward to his early adult years; he's married to a woman who's a bit too religious and perhaps a little ignorant but sweet nonetheless, he has a delightful daughter, and he's the manager of a Texas food service company. But after surviving a car accident, he decides to live his life as an openly gay man, and he leaves his family behind for Miami. It's there he realizes that living a gay lifestyle is more expensive than his salary as a sales manager will allow. So he does what any man vowing to live authentically would do he becomes a conman. After relatively simple schemes like feigning slips and falls in public places, he plunges headfirst into various types of fraud, including credit card, passport, and insurance. He even sells bad tomatoes.

Unfortunately, his crimes catch up with him, and he's arrested and sent to jail in Texas. He learns the ropes quickly; everything essentially boils down to a choice between paying someone off, learning how to fight, or giving someone oral sex. He knows who to talk to and where to guide someone should they need something. He spends all his free time in the library, where he reads nothing but law books. Into his life enters Philip Morris (Ewan McGregor), a soft spoken gay man who was tried and convicted for theft of service. He wants to see if there's a legal way to help an AIDS patient lying in the infirmary. Russell lies and tells Morris that he's a lawyer. The two immediately hit it off. Over the next few weeks, they form their own little slice of heaven in a jail cell, oblivious to the yard beatings and the cell searches.

At this point, I'm going to stop describing the plot, for I want you to be surprised by the lengths Russell will go to be with Morris. I will say that what the film, in its own offbeat way, is surprisingly sweet. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa's screenplay, based on Steve McVicker's book "I Love You Philip Morris: A True Story of Life, Love, and Prison Breaks," reveals a delicate and finely crafted balancing act between humor and drama; it's funny, though it never resorts to desperate slapstick or gross-out vulgarities, and it's heartfelt, yet it steers clear of broad, contrived sentimentalism. It's bold and appealing a romantic comedy that refuses to follow the rules of a romantic comedy.

Apart from Carrey and McGregor, I was pleasantly surprised by Leslie Mann, who appears briefly but is no less important as Russell's ex-wife, Debbie. Even after learning that he's gay, even after they get divorced, even after he gets sent to jail, the two remain on fairly good terms. This is amazing coming from a woman perpetually hung up on what the Lord does and does not intend to have happen. She believes that Russell is a man who doesn't know who he is and is always searching for something. I guess that makes sense. Why else would he be so reckless in his attempts at pretending to be what he isn't? Part of what makes "I Love You Philip Morris" such a good movie is that it presents Steven Jay Russell without forcing us towards any definite conclusions about him. True, he may be serving an unusually long jail sentence (in solitary confinement, no less), but you have to admit, he is a romantic.

I tend to underestimate Jim Carrey and then I see him in one of his better movies and realize what a serious mistake it was to do so. Typically I've been thinking of him as "just a comic" and not an actor. He is really a superb actor who is also a very funny comic.

I normally adore Ewan McGregor and he is just fine here. However, Carrey is just fantastic. I did not realize this was based on a real life con man until the end of the film. I thought it was fictional. The plot is Carrey as con man supreme who falls in love with McGregor when they are in prison together. The only problem is that Carrey can't stop himself from continuing his cons. The cons are terrically entertaining.

This is a dramedy, a comedy mixed with drama. It really works as both and I would not want one to dominate the other. As it is, a perfect blend is achieved.

These two do an absolutely superb job of playing gay men. I've seen a lot of films about gay men but never one like this. By having two major film actors play gay men in love, there are nuances and depths which are brought forth in this film which I don't think have ever been seen before.

Buy I Love You Phillip Morris (2010) Now

I simply couldn't wait any longer for this film to open in America, so I bought the DVD from AmazonUK (yes, I have a region free DVD player).

OMG this is one of the best films I've seen this year. Jim Carrey gives a performance worthy of year end award consideration in this funny, absurd and poignant romantic comedy about a gay con-artist. This is the Carrey of The Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine, and he shines in an often challenging role. Ewan MacGregor is equally affecting in the role of Carrey's love interest. There are some broad and outrageous moments; this is a comedy after all. However, there are an equal number of lovely, tender moments of romance and passion.

This film has been in some legal battles and so the American distribution has been held up. I hope these problems get resolved and this finds its way to a theatre near you. Don't miss it.

Jim Carrey was the singular reason I watched this film. The problem with this movie is that its not really a comedy, its not really a con-artist movie, its not really about gay relationships. It does all of these 3 things in somewhat equal measure and then loses out overall. I liked bits and pieces of it but too many times lost interest and was left with the feeling that if the director had focused on making a good con-artist movie, Jim Carrey could have turned it into something spectacular.

Want I Love You Phillip Morris (2010) Discount?

Some have suggested that Jim Carrey is poorly cast in the role of Steven Russell, the con artist whose story is told in I LOVE YOU, PHILLIP MORRIS. It's been said that his performances are too glossy, too on-the-surface for us to believe him as lovestruck and will to do everything and anything for that love.

I believe he is IDEALLY cast because of that. It's true that Carrey is not a classically trained actor...he is just very good at faking emotion (lots of actors do that, of course). But think about one of his most acclaimed performances, as Andy Kaufmann in MAN ON THE MOON. Kaufmann was a cipher, a man who deliberately avoided showing his real self by faking one "public persona" after another until he had no real persona at all. Carrey was pitch perfect. In PHILLIP MORRIS, he plays a gay man who initially lives a lie of being straight. He also joins the police force, not because he wants to fight crime, but as an avenue to getting access to paperwork that will show him who is real mother is. (And when he finally meets her, she slams the door on him. He was the middle child, and he wants to know why she kept her first child and her third, but not him.)

Eventually, he amicably ends his marriage and perhaps over-compensates by living a lavish Key West lifestyle...flamboyantly gay. He funds this lifestyle elaborate con games. The way Carrey plays Russell, we're never sure if Russell is actually a little self-deluded and half believes the cons...or is he just so good at them because there's no real Steven Russell inside the body. This disconnect from reality allows Carrey to jump everywhere emotionally with great facileness but we also never know when or if what we're seeing is really what Steven Russell is feeling. I liked this. Does this man have any self-insight, or is he faking everything...even love?

For when he is sent to jail, he falls BIG TIME for a fellow inmate, Phillip Morris (Ewan MacGregor). The feeling is mutual...or is it. Certainly, Morris loves Russell. Does Russell really love Morris, or is he just fulfilled in some way by being loved, and thus will do anything to keep winning the approval. And does it matter? They both seem happy with each other.

Eventually, both are on the outside, and the question becomes, will Carrey go straight, or will his desire to keep Morris living in the lap of luxury drive him to further cons? The answer is not hard to guess, and where the film goes from there is too much fun for me to ruin now.

In reality, although based on a true story, the entire film lives at an exaggerated, slightly fake level. It's just so hard to believe Steven Russell did all the things the movie says he did. (Although apparently he did!). But it strikes such a rich tone that frankly the film is a blast from beginning to end. Russell has seemingly endless depths of trickery that he can go to...and Carrey plays the role with gusto. "Gusto" is a word I seldom trot out...but it is SO appropriate here. He's having a ball playing a guy having a ball. And MacGregor is a delight as Morris. He's filmed in such a way that he practically glows. He's slightly fey, slightly effeminate...but it never struck me as a caricature. We DO believe he loves Russell.

There are plenty of plot hi-jinks throughout the film...including one of the funniest and cleverest prison breaks since SHAWSHANK. It's certainly quite entertaining just at that level. But watching these two guys absolutely grab the screen is the enduring pleasure. And yes, there is plenty of relatively graphic smooching and sex in the film. I say "relatively" because if what we saw was between a man and a woman, we'd scarcely bat an eye. But because it's two men, some of the physicality is a bit surprising to see in a mainstream movie. Carrey & MacGregor play it with nary a wink or a hesitation...and thus their relationship has real spark. It's sexy and fun and romantic.

The film is too lightweight and frothy to really be great...but it is a wonderfully good time nonetheless, and should be enjoyed by any adult audience not afraid to see Carrey and MacGregor do some serious smooching.

Spring Breakers (Blu-ray + UltraViolet Digital Copy) (2013)

Spring BreakersI suspect that young people old enough to see this movie, thinking it was another "Project X" or something like it, were in for a surprise. Sure the movie starts out with all the "B's", i.e. booze, beer, bongs, babes and boobs. And make no mistake, there are plenty to each to go around. But there some shockers on the way.

The story has 4 extremely bored small town coeds focused on getting to the sugary beaches of St. Petersburg, Florida. Running short of cash, three of the girls (Vanessa Hudgens, Rachel Korine wife of director Harmony Korine and Ashley Benson) decide to knock over the local Chicken Shack. It works and later they reunite with the fourth girl, Faith (Selena Gomez) whose name is consistent with her religion. Off they go and when they get there, its party hardy with Faith pulling back a bit and Cotty (Korine) at the other extreme.

In a night of debauchery, the cops haul the young cuties in to the calaboose still in their bikinis. An observer from the beach scene earlier, "Alien" (James Franco) bails the ladies from the grips of the man. Franco in full-on crazy complete with cornrows, a grill and a pimped out Z-28 Camero is quite the character. Raised in the hood, he's all that, just white. He's also trouble, but the visceral excitement he brings is an aphrodisiac to 3 of the girls. Faith, the early focus of Alien's interest has the good sense to head back home.

Sometimes ultra-violent, always sexy, often comedic and usually campy, "Spring Breakers" takes a Tarantino-like turn that takes 2 of the more frisky gals (Candy and Brit) into new territory. Certainly not for everyone, I found the movie exhilarating, highly entertaining and way out of the mainstream.

First off, this film is intended to be disturbing, and to create knee jerk reactions. Sometimes art wants us to examine ourselves, and often, through that process, things may hit a little too close to home. This movie is a huge commentary on the "party" scene and the absolute idiotic, reckless, behavior college age adults will put themselves into in the meaning of having fun. I have no doubt parents out there will be mortified to think their teenager is on Spring Break participating in the hedonistic lifestyle choices portrayed in the movie, or more mature older adults will think back to their own shameful mistakes of their youth, which is kind of the point. The characters are mostly one dimensional, plot is sparse, violence, nudity, drugs use, and hedonism are abundant but it's obvious all of these factors contribute to the message of the movie and Harmony Korine's comments on the the culture he is mocking. I also love that the slow paced "art" film quality of this movie is a harsh and fascinating contrast to the gratuitous excess of the violence, drug use and overly sexed party scenes. A lot of people are not going to like this movie at all, and I actually feel sorry for someone who goes into this movie thinking they are going to see a feel good road movie about Spring Break. This is a very dark, satirical, look at what today's youth are exposed to and what they might find themselves falling into.

Disregard the haters, Spring Breakers is brilliant. Despite its somewhat horrific subject matter and over the top ending, this is high art. And everything spellbinds: the surreal flow, the voice and scene overlays like shifting panels, the acting, the frightening world convincingly portrayed by James Franco's character. "Seems like a dream," he repeats over and over before the explosive end. "Seems like a dream..." If you keep that in mind, you'll get it.

First and foremost, I have to say this: THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY!

There, I got that out there because I am going to state my opinion about this movie. I bought this movie today and I had watched this movie on its opening day in theaters and I remember enjoying the movie and was able to see what the movie was truly about.

Prior to seeing this movie, the only movie I had watched of Harmony Korine's that I had seen was "Kids," and he wrote the script for that movie, but he didn't direct it. Before today, the only other movie I had seen of his was "Gummo" which I kind of enjoyed even though I saw that it was a really weird movie.

Now I remember what led me to seeing this movie was the amount of curiosity I had for it. I remember seeing some promotional pictures and some set pictures of the four girls in bikinis and it enticed me to see it. Then I watched the trailer on YouTube which made me realize what kind of movie this was going to be, especially after seeing who directed it. I had a feeling that it was going to be a stylish indie flick that was also a social commentary.

I didn't expect this to be a typical party movie. I knew what I was getting going into this movie. However, that isn't to say that I didn't see any flaws in it. I remember when I saw it, I somehow found James Franco's character to be a little annoying but after seeing it for the second time today, I saw that he played that role well. I also have to hand it to Selena Gomez for trying to break out of her Disney image. Too bad she left halfway through the movie.

Overall, all I can say is that if you want to watch this, you have to know what you're getting yourself into and that this was never meant to be a party comedy to begin with. Also, for fans of independent cinema, I recommend it. I felt that the movie got a little better for me after the first time I saw it. I liked it enough to buy it, now I feel that it's a little better than my first viewing of it. That's all I can say. Peace.

Great colors, great cinematography. Weird, but valid, story. Many will not like it, and it was disturbing to me, but I cannot say that it was not quite unique. This is not for everyone. Artsy people, you should see it. I want a grill like James Franco. Weird how he is getting so many roles, but when you think about it, for his character, he is doing a bang-up job. In this one, disturbing, but in a weird way, very well done. I want a grill like that (as long as I can remove it when I visit mom...). Has anyone compared it, especially the colors, to "Eyes Wide Shut"?

Mr. Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie

Mr. Bean: The Ultimate Disaster MovieThis is a 4 star movie for anyone who has never seen Mr. Bean before. As someone who has the box set and had watched Bean on PBS for many years, this movie just didn't cut it for me. It is basically a reworking of all the very best bits of Rowan from the Bean series with a movie plot around them tying them together. So while there is a new idea or two, for the most part the long term fan has seen all these gags before. I would pick up the Whole Box of Beans to get a true taste of the genius of Rowan Atkinson.

If you are already a fan of Mr. Bean and haven't yet seen this movie, run to the store!! Watch the disaster-man come to America...

A famous American painting is bought from the Brits and goes back to the US; the British art museum is asked to send a renown art scholar who will deliver a speech during the celebration of the masterpiece return. They decide to send Bean. He is no scholar, of course, he's just a watchman they wish they could fire; but they can't, so they are happy to get rid of him at least for a couple of months by sending him to the States.

Some of the antics are taken from the TV series, but there are many new ones you will enjoy. The episode of Mr. Bean's arrival to the airport is priceless, as well as his "performance" in front of the mirror-wall at the police station.

Highly recommended to any Bean lover.

I remember when i was 9 years old in 97, i went to see this film in the cinema with a relative. Good time.

I recently saw this Blu-ray and i still think it`s funny a film. I think Mr. Bean is a great character played by the great

comedic actor Rowan Atkinson. I laughed a lot of this film. I`m glad to have it in my ever growing Blu-ray collection.

Picture quality: 4/5

I read a review of this film and it has DNR and Edge Enhancement. This is true, i don`t like DNR and Edge Enhancement.

But, despite this, it i think it still looks good, but not reference quality due to the use of the mentioned. It still has HD

quality and looks better than the DVDs.

Audio quality: 3.5/5

I was suprised the DTS-HD MA 5.1 didn`t sound better. I think the Dialog was mixed too low and the music a bit hollow

and unclear. The think the dialog and music actually sounded better in the foreign dub

Film: 5/5

Overall: 5/5

"Bean: The Movie" is a good movie, if you are into Mr Bean. Many of the gags are from the series episodes, though there are some new adventures that Bean gets up to.

The movie has Mr Bean sent to the USA on an international art gallery event to unveil "Whistler's Mother" in an LA gallery. To the Americans, Bean is referred to as a genius in the British art world, an expert without peer. Naturally, expectations are high.

As mentioned, fans will be familiar with some of the gags that appear in the movie, albeit under new circumstances. However, there are some new ones that generate enough novelty to make the movie worth seeing.

With the longer format, I am not all that sure that the Bean concept was as punchy as the episodes. I certainly didn't experience any physical discomfort, cramping, breathing difficulties or blurred vision. However, this movie was a good dose of light and amusing entertainment.

I would suggest that the one of the complete Bean series collections would be a better place for laughter a-la Bean. Though, in this encounter between the intellectual art world and Bean, it is certainly the snobs that come off second best.

Killer Movie (2011)

Killer MovieIt looks like other reviewers here are probably involved with the film. I am not; I just watched it. This movie is the average slasher fare with a reality show spin on it. Even though the storyline is not so original, I still found the movie likeable all the way to the end. It has the cheesiness but doesn't look cheap, some humor, decent kill scenes, and good music scores. Slasher movie fans would particularly find this film entertaining.

I saw Killer Movie in a film festival a couple of months ago. It was so funny at times, and really creepy at others. The acting was great, and the characters were so interesting and multifaceted. The dialogue was witty and fresh, and Kaley Cuoco's one-liners had me laughing out loud. But even with all the humor, you never forget that you're watching a horror movie. The gory details are horrifying and the murders creative and original. I won't spoil anything, but it'll leave you thinking, "I never would have thought to kill someone like that." You really have to see for yourself. I strongly recommend this movie for any horror or comedy fan.

KILLER MOVIE is the silly, creepy, gory tale of documentary film-making gone horribly awry. We follow a film crew as they work on a doc about a small town's high school hockey team. Of course, there's a masked maniac at large, and people begin dying awful, squishy deaths. Said maniac is an interesting fellow, w/ his own unique take on reality TV. KM has gallons of blood and several dismemberments, yet manages to remain fun and interesting. The characters are solid, especially Kaley Cuoco (tv'S BIG BANG THEORY) as a total wench of an actress who gets a much needed attitude tune up by movie's end! So, if you enjoy comedic horror w/ extra sauce, KILLER MOVIE should slake that thirst...

Killer Movie, as the title foreshadows, is an intelligent, witty mix of horror and satire. It's a movie within a movie, a dark and cuttingly humorous inside take on the world of reality TV, written and directed by Jeff Fisher, an actual reality TV director. The horror is especially chilling, and the humor rings particularly true, because the reality TV material is based on the director's real life reality TV experience. Thanks to the wicked, cutting edge, deliciously twisted imagination that inspired the script, you can't predict what's going to happen -and that's what makes Killer Movie a truly refreshing departure from all those horror movie cliches that have already been done to death.

Struck by Lightning (2012)

Struck by LightningA coming-of-age movie for all ages, Struck by Lightning is filled with dry humor and a message for anyone who watches it. Carson Phillips makes for a dynamic, morally ambiguous main character whose story strikes as realistic, emotional, and ultimately uplifting for a boy caught in a small town with little hope of escape. The supporting characters are just as fascinating, from Rebel Wilson's portrayal of Malerie, the high school student who records everything on tape, to Allison Janney's heartbreaking rendition of a struggling single mother trying to cope with depression and anxiety while raising her son. Heartfelt and filled with intertwining storylines that combine to a greater picture that is far larger than the sum of its parts, Struck by Lightning is the perfect film for anyone who has ever felt a little ostracized, a little hopeless, a little too small for their dreams.

I've been waiting... I don't even know how long anymore to see this movie, and I'm so glad I finally have been able to see it. Chris Colfer did a flawless job, and I highly suggest you watch this movie. Right now. Click rent. You won't regret it, I promise.

This movie was written by and stars Chris Colfer, best known as Kurt from "Glee." It is an absorbing study of an overachiever and how whether or not you want it to the way we live our life, our choices, our decisions and our drive effect the others around us in both positive and negative ways. The acting in this movie is stellar, filled with both present and future stars (Rebel Wilson for one, filmed a year before she exploded) and the writing keeps you engaged from the first (literally shocking) first minutes until the end of the movie. I highly recommend this movie, for the smiles and for the moments that make you wince and for the way it makes you feel when it is over. Overachievers they rock.

Chris Colfer from TV's "Glee" is certainly making the most of his fame by expanding his resume as an author and a screenwriter, and I have to admire this tenacity and ambition. As "Glee" winds down, the entire cast should be thinking about future career moves! Colfer has become something of role model in recent years. As an openly homosexual character on a popular television program, he has a platform that reaches millions of kids struggling with identity and/or bullying. With this work, he has twice been nominated for an EMMY and even won a Golden Globe award. "Struck by Lightning" is an adaptation of Colfer's popular teen novel, and its screenplay was penned by Colfer as well. Director Brian Dannelly has assembled an extremely immense and TV friendly cast for this production and it's fun to see just who might pop up next. Some of the notable actors in the ensemble include Allison Janney, Dermot Mulroney, Rebel Wilson, Polly Bergin, Sarah Hyland (Modern Family), Ashley Rickards (Awkward), Angela Kinsey (The Office), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Allie Grant (Suburgatory and Weeds), Graham Rogers (Revolution), Brad William Henke, and Ken Marino.

The film tells the story of Carson Phillips (Colfer), who in the opening sequence is quite literally struck by lightning. Through a series of flashbacks and a reflective voice over narration, Phillips recounts the days leading up to this event. While he deals with an unstable mother (Janney) and a father (Mulroney) who seems to be moving on, he throws himself into making a better life for himself through education. As the editor of the school paper, he is plagued by an unsupportive staff and an apathetic administration. His college dreams may be off track unless he can come up with a noticeable project to pad his application. Creating a literary magazine, he and his trusted sidekick (a remarkably restrained and quite good Rebel Wilson) use any means necessary to ensure the cooperation of all of the school's most influential students. Meant to be a comic romp, the movie degenerates into a rather mean spirited adventure that actually seems to support reverse bullying. As long as it isn't done by popular kids, does that make it defensible?

There are plenty of things to like about "Struck by Lightning." First of all, the cast is first rate. And the film has its amusing moments. Ultimately, though, Colfer's character is not someone that you can really root for and admire. He's not a lovable underdog, he's a judgmental bully. He's smarter than everyone else in the movie, quick to condescend and make fun. As such, he never elicited even one moment of sympathy from me. I know that's the point and that there are life lessons to be learned by all. You can make a terrific black comedy that is merciless (Heathers comes to mind), but "Struck by Lightning" seems to want to have it both ways. As Colfer bullies everyone and blackmails them to his own reward, the movie embraces a meanness that is a perfectly acceptable choice. But the movie also wants to have its share of "warm and fuzzies." After terrorizing everyone in his life, we're also supposed to embrace a positive message from the hero? "Struck by Lightning" isn't a bad movie, by any stretch, it just sends a few mixed messages and one of them seems to support bullying as long as it's done by the right people for the right motives. KGHarris, 5/13.

Want Struck by Lightning (2012) Discount?

I've been reading all these reviews on amazon about SBL (bad life choice I know) and so many people are missing the point of the movie. They're trapped in this idea that somehow we're supposed to love Carson and want him to succeed for nothing more than the fact that he's a creation of Chris Colfer and we should want him to get what he wants in life but it's so much more than that they seem to be missing the major underlying message of the movie itself which, to me, is incredibly disappointing.

Struck By Lightning isn't supposed to be some kid-movie where you see the backyard boy succeed and go to the college of his dreams no matter what obstacles he faces. We're not supposed to sit there and adore Carson in spite of the fact that he's kind of a jerk (in fact, most people I know adore him because he's kind of a jerk and doesn't give a crap what people think about him).

It's supposed to be a movie about dreams. Some of the major quotes in the film are centred around this idea: 'A life without meaning, without drive, without focus, without goals or dreals isn't a life worth living', and `In what grade do we stop believing in ourselves'? It's not about giving up everything for your dreams, I don't think, or the essence of blackmail to get what you want.

What Carson realises at the end of the film isn't that he's happy because his dreams are coming true or because he's made an effort. He's happy because he's realised all the amazing things he's done in his short life; he may not have gotten into the college of his dreams or gotten everything he wanted, but he did something amazing. He had lived his life up to that point dwelling on himself, his self-pity and waiting every day for his life to begin. By doing so he had completely ignored all his personal successes, the things he had accomplished and the good, joyful things in his life.

SBL isn't supposed to be some indie comedy about a kid who's dreams all come true. It's a movie about finding your dreams, finding yourself, and realising that, okay, not everything is perfect but you've accomplished something fantastic and amazing in your time on earth, even if, at first, it doesn't seem as fantastic.

Kung Fu Dunk

Kung Fu DunkI love Kung Fu movies and there are not enough good ones out there. I know people love Jackie Chan, he's fun to watch, but all of his fight scenes look so choreographed. The kid is this movie is AWESOME! The fight scene in the bar is amazing! He is very fast and extremely fluid and when the scene was over I jumped out of my seat and cheered. Yes, this movie is kind of silly, but that adds to the charm and overall entertainment this movie offers. Movies are not supposed to be realistic. If a movie can take your mind on a mini vacation away from reality for 90 minutes or more it has done its job, and this movie does that.

My wife shopped for this Movie everywhere, and finally we found it on Amazone! Great place to shop, and trust worthy as well! Excellent movie, and thanks for getting it to us on time.

Wholesome, family-friendly fun. You may need to struggle through some subtitles, but this is way better than any of that Air Bud nonsense.

Our story begins with great cinematography (only early in the movie), an orphaned infant and a note. The child is raised by a kung fu master and trained with all of the clichéd wisdom behind the yins, yangs and qi ("chi") of the universe and one's self. After the untimely death of his master, Fang Shijie (Jay Chou) grows up as a kind-hearted yet semi-rebellious kung fu student.

Fang gets involved with some of the wrong people and gets expelled from his kung fu school. But his skillful aim is quickly discovered by friendly hustler who directs his hands to basketball. It turns out that Fang's skill in kung fu translates well, making him a 100% free thrower even from half court...that is, when there's no pressure or opposition. His greatest opposition is from the team captain, who has a drinking problem that is presented in a rather family-friendly way.

Fang needs to learn the basic skills of the game and teamwork to be able to utilize his world class arm. Through the support of his teammates and hard work he develops into a fine player.

Strong elements of comedy and classic kung fu theater action-isms mesh well with modern, stylistic camerawork. The fighting and stunts are good (not great), and are not the focus of this movie after the first act. This movie is about basketball and teamwork.

The greatest thing about this movie is that Fang's skill is never met with arrogance. He is always humble. He wants to be an appreciated member of the team in addition to showing what he can do. He also helps his team captain "defeat" his drinking problem.

The only bad thing about this family flick is part of the finale during the final game. At this point hokey-wholesome turns uber-ridiculous when Fang's kung fu school masters come to his aid with their weird, Harry Potter-esque personalities. This scene also made everything about Fang instead of him being part of the team. Thankfully, after 5-10 minutes of this, it's back to teamwork along with an unfortunately slow but happy ending.

I absolutely loved this movie. It had all the comedy, romance, and plain goodness I look for in a movie. It didn't bore me at all. I would definitely watch this movie over and over again. The cover and synopsis really made me misjudge the movie but it is greater than it seems. Definitely watch this movie. Too good to miss!!!!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Blu-ray + Digital Copy + UltraViolet) (2008)

Forgetting Sarah MarshallMy wife and I took a chance on this and rented it when we couldn't find anything else. We haven't seen any other Apatow films -they all looked a little too adolescent for our tastes. We had read some good reviews of this, though, so we gave it a shot. It was a real surprise -very clever, well-written, and genuinely funny. Great cast, and all give excellent performances. Lots of real talent went into this. A very enjoyable movie.

"Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is another smashing success brought to you by Judd Apatow and friends. This time it is Jason Segel's turn to shine and he certainly does not dissapoint with a script that is both laugh out loud funny and emotionally honest.

While one has come to expect Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, and even Segel himself to be on point because of their past turns in other Apatow produced comedies, it is the newcomers that really impress.

Like Christpher Mint-Plaisse as Fogel in "Superbad" it is the ability to find new and original comedic voices that have largely contributed to the success of past Apatow movies like "Superbad", "Knocked up", and even "40 year old virgin".

"Sarah Marshall" introduces the british Comedian Russell Brand to American audiences as Aldous Snow the ultra-ridiculous british rockstar/new boyfriend of Sarah Marshall. Brand has dynamite comic timing and is certainly willing to do anything for a laugh. His interactions with Jonah Hill whose character is obsessed with him are both creepy and laugh out loud funny.

the other real suprise is Mila Kunis. While I enjoyed her as jackie on "That 70's Show", her work here is truly relevatory. While she is essentially playing the requiste "dream girl" she is able to give the part some real depth while giving the movie a real warmth.

The other standout for me was Bill Hader who is funnier everytime I see him. Most will probably recognize him from his work in Superbad as Seth Rogen's partner and in this he plays segel's step-brother who is not afraid to tell Peter exactly how it is.

I also feel I need to mention Kristen Bell who plays Sarah Marshall. While the role is rather thankless she is quite funny and gives the character real bite. She also nails perhaps the most honest scene I have ever seen in a romantic comedy when she finally tells Peter why it didnt work between them. Both actors shine in the scene, but her work is both honest and heartbreaking and gives her character a depth that I certainly was not expecting.

This one is highly recommended

Partway through this movie I was tempted to stop it, but I'm glad I didn't. This is a movie that starts good, has a wandering middle section, but a strong, satisfying finish. The story is one most people can relate to a guy gets dumped, tries to forget his ex but can't get away from her, and manages to find someone else. The part where I almost gave up on it was around where Jason Segel's character was breaking down in scenes which were intended to be funny, but at times just felt sad. I enjoy comedies which include their share of drama, but these scenes felt too forced. It seemed like some of those scenes stretched on for too long or borderline-funny gags were repeated too much. The movie does still have its share of funny scenes, like most of Apatow's films.

The scenes with the Dracula puppet musical were quite funny and the ending was rather touching. I will also give the movie credit for being one of the few daring enough to include male frontal nudity. Movies have no problem with having all the violence in the world but shy away from any nudity except graphic sex scenes. Here's an example of where nudity can be used in a story without being gratuitous.

The story line of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is nothing completely new or all that complex. The movie starts off with Peter Bretter, played by Jason Segel, who ends up getting broken up by Sarah Marshall, played by Kristen Bell, his celebrity girlfriend of 5 years. I thought that I was going to see a movie that has been done a million times and will laugh at a few dirty jokes. Surprisingly enough, Jason Segel knows his way around writing and acting. For a man who has never played a lead character or written his own screenplay he was very impressive.

One thing that not everyone realizes is that the full frontal nudity scene was not in the movie just for laughs. We have him nude in the beginning because Sarah has completely stripped him of everything and she couldn't accept who he really is, his true nakedness. And if you watch the movie (I don't want to spoil it too much) you will see this motif happen again later in the film. Yes, it is very funny to see Peter standing naked while he is getting dumped, but it also served a purpose.

Throughout the film we get witty and fresh characters that continue to make us laugh. The bar tender from South Central always stirs up laughs and the Christian couple on their honeymoon will have you grabbing your sides. Not to mention the incredible character of Aldous Snow played by Russel Brand. I know many people are not a fan of Brand, but my friends and I just can't get enough of him. His amazing improv throughout the film and ridiculous attitude is all part of his humor.

If some of you are asking how it stands up to the other comedies of the year, I must say FSM trumps all. Tropic Thunder is a close second for me, but the closeness that this will have with people that have gone through difficult breakups will have them laughing a bit more.

Last thing I want to say is the three disc collectors edition is well worth every penny. All the special features are hilarious and definitely worth the view. They share stories of Russel Brand's first audition to how Jason felt watching his nude scenes with his mom and little sister. We also get some insight from Nick Stoller and how he felt directing his first film and being part of the Apatow gang. The best part about this DVD, and should be true about all other Unrated editions, is that you can choose to watch either the unrated or theatrical version. Personally I prefer the theatrical version because it flows better, but give the unrated a view for their extra jokes. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is a film that will not soon be forgotten.

When you hear the phrase "date movie", most people usually think "chick flick", a movie that's pleasing to the female on the date yet only passable at best for the guy. Something like The Wedding Planner, 27 Dresses or the most recent chick-centric movie to be dubbed "the perfect date movie", Made of Honor.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall blows all those flicks right out of the water. This movie is a rare occurrence. It's a movie that has the right amount of romance for the ladies and an abundance of raunchy jokes for the guys. Kristen Bell is especially good in her role as the title character. She's come a long way since Veronica Mars. She proves that comedy is her real forte.

Holy Matrimony - Blu-ray (1994)

Holy Matrimony - Blu-rayI don't know why, but I just loved this movie. Patricia is so charming(as usual). I'm definitely a fan of her. I liked how it was tied into the Amish community. The boy was so perfect. If he were older he'd be the perfect guy. The film had action, suspense, a moral, pretty gal, romance, and it was surprisingly engrossing . I liked the conflicts. It was fun to see how putting different types of people in different situations would work.

This is overall, a very enjoyable movie. A woman who loose and easy as we used to call it..working at a carnival..so her and her boyfriend ..who was previously an Amish, decide to steal money...they flee to The Amish to hide out...the guy winds up getting killed and the woman has to marry his younger 12 year old brother... Overall..It is delightful...

Silver Linings Playbook (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy + UltraViolet) (2012)

Silver Linings PlaybookThis is why we go to movies. Silver Linings Playbook is that rare breed of movie where all the moving parts got put together in exactly the right way. The dialogue is sharp, witty, insightful, funny, and often brutally honest. It respects and holds true affection for its characters and the wonderful ensemble cast makes it look easy. The direction, editing and soundtrack are spot on. It is a future classic and the best movie of the year.

Pat is an underachieving substitute high school history teacher who has just been released from the Karel Psychiatric Facility after spending an eight month court-ordered stint for nearly beating the history teacher to death when he finds him in the shower with his wife. His doting, eternally optimistic mother brings him home hoping that the worst of his previously undiagnosed bipolar symptoms are under control. But his refusal to take his meds and an unfortunate incident concerning Earnest Hemingway and a window quickly dispels that optimism. Pat is in fact clueless, living inside a self-delusion bubble in which he reunites with the truly unattainable object of his obsession, his wife Nikki. Two more mismatched souls the world has never seen but he is the only one who doesn't realize it. He plods doggedly on in pursuit, oblivious to everything and everyone else around him. His illness has removed the normal barriers that prevent him from expressing the unfiltered truth as he sees it, making for some awkward, cringe-worthy, often humorous exchanges. Pat is hardly ready for the real world.

And he certainly is not ready for Tiffany. Pat's best friend invites him over for a homecoming dinner which turns out to be a blind date with his wife's recently widowed sister, Tiffany. Tiffany suffers from severe depression and her mood swings run the gamut volatile, bitter, vulnerable, stubborn, sexy, and sweet all thrown randomly into a mixer and blended at high speed. Everyone is a little afraid of her. Her depression results from her guilt over her husband's death which she attributes to her loss of sexual interest in him. She sleeps with everyone in her office in an attempt to anesthetize herself from her emotional pain. She is dead inside, just breathing air. And into this web steps the unsuspecting Pat.

From the moment they meet sparks and barbs fly indiscriminately between them, much to the horror of their hosts who believe they are witnessing a train wreck in the making. But these two lost and damaged souls immediately connect, kindred spirits seeking respite from the storm. Pat is overwhelmed, unable to come to grips with guilt over the intensity of his attraction to Tiffany and the incident sends him into an uncontrolled manic episode. Tiffany feels the same connection and it jolts her far enough out of her stupor for her to see the possibilities. When Pat turns down her offer to sleep with her the flame sparks higher, her curiosity is piqued, and her pursuit begins in earnest. As she starts to nurture and guide Pat, she develops such a flaming torch for him that it would blister the skin off any ordinary guy. But he is oblivious, content just to follow her around like the lost puppy he is. She grabs the opportunity full throttle, dragging the perplexed, not-quite-ready-for-reality Pat along for the ride.

The cast is simply brilliant. Bradley Cooper is a revelation as the bipolar misfit whose philosophy consists of working hard and staying positive to find the silver lining in everything. He and Jennifer Lawrence have such electrifying chemistry together that you find yourself rooting for them to find a way to be together from the moment they meet. Robert DeNiro comes alive in his Oscar-nominated role as Pat's Eagles-obsessed, superstitious, OCD bookie father. Chris Tucker deserves special mention as Pat's equally optimistic fellow psychiatric inmate and friend Danny ("Black it up Pat!").

But make no doubt about it this is Jennifer Lawrence's movie. At twenty two she is the real thing. Her performance here is transcendental. Even with the marvelous supporting cast holding the bar so high the movie would not work without her. She is visceral caustic and vulnerable in the same breath. Her facial expressions hide nothing she is fearless, willing to expose Tiffany's raw emotional core to everyone around her, warts and all as she juggles staying one step ahead of both Pats obsession as well as her own. The transformational changes that occur are put into motion and propelled forward by her. She bets everything with no guarantee that he is capable of giving her what she so desperately needs, willing to run the risk of diving off the emotional cliff for a chance at the real thing. Her character is the lynchpin of the story. And Jennifer Lawrence is nowhere to be found here. The success of the movie rides on her shoulders and she is brilliantly up to the task. Her talent is embarrassing.

The film is unapologetically romantic but dismissing it as a simple romance is missing the point. It deals with family, friendship, truth, sacrifice, and love as imperfect ideals worth fighting for regardless of your place in the world. It is a brave film. Do yourself a favor, go see it. It is ultimately a joyous affirmation of life's possibilities. And who doesn't need a little of that?

David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook" is a big hearted and nearly irresistible concoction that presents one of the year's most unlikely romances. I've been a huge Russell fan since his debut with "Spanking the Monkey" and "Flirting With Disaster" is one of my favorite flights of outrageousness. Russell can have an edgy cynicism about his eccentric characters, but he knows how to make an audience identify with even their most offbeat characteristics. Make no mistake, "Silver Linings Playbook" is loaded with an expected array of troubled souls. But the most remarkable thing about this film (and its screenplay) is the amount of compassion it shows to just about everyone. With a stellar cast including Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker and John Ortiz, the movie boasts easily one of the best ensembles of the year. Each of these actors is given a fully written character and each makes a huge impression in the screen time allotted. That's what impressed me most about the film. It embraces its large cast and allows every member to shine!

Cooper plays a man being released from institutionalized care after a violent episode got him into trouble. Having lost his job and his wife, he is taken in by his parents (Weaver and DeNiro) who must contend with his bipolar condition. Cooper is single-minded in his pursuit to get back together with his wife, to the point of obsession. When he meets an odd young widow (Lawrence) dealing with plenty of personal demons, the two seem like they've got a lot in common. Of course, they seem perfect for each other but Cooper remains oblivious for most of the movie. Cooper and Lawrence have a great chemistry, even in confrontation (which is most of the time), but their verbal exchanges and smart dialogue are really what distinguish this piece. On paper, "Silver Linings Playbook" sounds like it might be a bit of a disaster. It might be filled with cliches about mental illness and stock romantic subplots. But Russell travels off the beaten path. The movie speaks volumes about family and commitment with unexpected plot detours that include gambling, football, and even competitive dancing.

Every character in the movie is a mess! Really! But you still root for them to come together. Cooper shows new acting chops, while Lawrence is smart and appealing. DeNiro has one of his best supporting roles in years, he's playing an actual character and not just a caricature of himself. His estrangement with Cooper fuels much of the movie. The saintly Weaver is so good, worlds away from her Oscar nominated turn in "Animal Kingdom" as the evil matriarch. And Ortiz and Tucker really score in smaller roles. The movie might follow standard romantic comedy conventions in its primary plot, but you've never seen them orchestrated in quite this way. The big finale, in fact, has one of the most uncomfortable (and biggest) laughs of the year as our leads strut their stuff on the dance floor. This is not all comedy, nor all drama, but an appealing blend that feels both fanciful and real. Russell obviously loves these characters and I think you will too. About 4 1/2 stars. KGHarris, 12/12.

I didn't expect to like this film since I've disliked Bradley Cooper's past roles and because the script sounded shallow and formulaic. Initially, I thought they'd included De Niro as a come-on. In fact, the only reason I saw the film was because of Jennifer Lawrence, whose sophisticated performance in WINTER'S BONE convinced me I'd seen the breakthrough of a gifted actress.

Well, I was wrong about Cooper, wrong about De Niro's inclusion, wrong about a formulaic script, and dead-on about Jennifer Lawrence. Simply stated, this quirky, brilliant story of the evolution of love between two world-worn, emotionally troubled people -against the chaotic background of family madness -was one of the most satisfying, funny and affecting movies I've seen in recent years. In terms of clarity, continuity and heart, it surpasses the book on which it was based.

Since others have described the plot on this page, I will say that millions of viewers who have not seen the film will find parts of their emotional lives in the trials of the lead characters. They will marvel at Bradley Cooper's jaw-dropping portrayal of of a man shackled by the manic phase of bipolar disorder. They will wince at those moments in which the love between the principals starts to emerge, and falters. They will discover a performance by Lawrence that is comfortably sensual, and an actress who is equally powerful whether she is mute or screaming.

The script is complex and masterfully written, with surprising outburst of pathos and hilarity. The climax of the film -and I won't enter a spoiler here -caught me by surprise. I wept at the beauty of it, the director's mastery of realism, and the restoration of originality and complexity to American comedy.

It may be that we're all fundamentally "crazy" and that these two lovers legitimize the chaos we feel inside. It may also be that the art direction, score, supporting performances (De Niro is simply wonderful) and choreography are jaw-dropping. In the end, it's the confluence of so many virtues that make this film as fine as it is. For Bradley Cooper, it's a career-defining moment For Jennifer Lawrence, it's confirmation of what the wise always believed, and hopefully she'll be spared casting in horror films in perpetuity. She is one of our very best, and her beauty, grace and innate power to inhabit the souls of her characters -are most unusual.

While I've enjoyed it once, I plan to view it again tomorrow evening, will continue to discuss it with friends, and add it to my list of favorites.

That's not bad at all.

I have to be honest and say that i didn't hear very good reviews on this movie. But, because I am a movie fanatic i must always see for myself. First off, I am a huge fan of Jennifer Lawrence and that was exciting in itself. The movie was hilarious, witty, charming, crazy, confusing and in all good ways. Robert Dinero oddly made me cry of course. The overall story was amazing. Love does not always come like in fairy tales and this movie proves that. Sometimes the pain can bring two people together, and sometimes the people we need the most are right in front of us, even if we cannot see it right away. All i can say its suprizing-ly entertaining and you will not regret watching it. I suggest you watch this when you arent distracted by noise because everything that they say ,,,trust me you want to hear! I bought it the next day. GREAT movie!

An absolutely great movie. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence have two outstanding performances for which Lawrence won the Best Actress Oscar, not too mention the supporting jobs done by Robert De Niro, Jackie Weaver, Chris Tucker and many others.

Set in Philadelphia, the movie shows Pat Solitano (Cooper) returning home from a stint in a mental institution after a domestic incident with his ex-wife highlighted his struggle with bipolar mood swings. Pat moves back in with his parents (De Niro and Weaver) as her tries to get his life back together, hoping to reunite with his ex-wife. Things get very interesting when Pat meets Tiffany (Lawrence), a young woman with issues of her own.

If nothing more, the movie shows that life is not always perfect. Things can get out of control and spiral. All the same, with family and friends in our lives, it's always worth moving forward.

Red 2

Red 2Here they are again, our favorite former black-ops CIA agents, still Retired and Extremely Dangerous, who must reunite and track down a portable nuclear device, invented by a man who has been held for over 30 years in an institution for the criminally insane.

If you saw the original "Red" you know that after all the wild events, Frank and Sarah became a couple. Now we get to see what happens AFTER the "happily ever after...." (It's hilarious!)

We see:

* Bruce Willis ("Red") Frank is in a domestic frenzy, deliriously heaping his shopping cart at Costco with countless household items.

* John Malkovich ("Red") Marvin is horrified to see Frank in this condition. He will do anything...

* Mary-Louise Parker ("Red") Sarah has an edge over Frank and Marvin: people LIKE her, but she can only watch Frank's new-found domesticity with a mixture of dismay and affection.

* Helen Mirren ("Red") Victoria is in the middle of another "side job" when our friends contact her.

* Byung-hun Lee ("G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra") Han Cho Bai has a contract to kill Frank.

* Catherine Zeta-Jones ("Side Effects") Katja is a Russian operative who formerly worked for the KGB. She and Frank have a "history."

* Anthony Hopkins ("You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger") Bailey is our mad scientist.

This PG-13 outing is another wild ride with our favorite foursome, maybe even wilder than the original: Our screening audience laughed all the way through. Expect vehicular mayhem, endless gunfire and blowie uppie stuff, hardly any profanity, several interesting kisses but no sweaty bodies. Mirren makes a great Mary, Queen of Scots, Parker speaks lousy Russian, Malkovich is fetching in a Carmen Miranda chicka-chicka boom hat and Willis plays Willis flawlessly.

Don't miss this one! I'll pre-order my DVD from Amazon as soon as it's allowed.

Saw the movie recently and I intend to order the DVD.

This film is funny, witty, has action galore and tons of star power in an assemble cast.

The relationship between Frank and Sarah was handled beautifully, Marvin is still bat-crap crazy, but lovable and Victoria chews up the scenery with the best of them. Throw in a kick ass assassin, mad scientist and worldwide exotic locations and you have the perfect formula for non-stop entertainment.

Highly recommended. If you liked Red, you'll love Red 2. Nuff said, I'm ordering my copy now.

"Red 2" is a superb action film that touches on the continuation of most of the characters from the first Red film. My husband and I both agreed that "Red 2" was even better than the first "Red." However, he was undecided at first about who was his favorite character. This was because Bruce Willis and Louise Parker elegantly played a couple very much in love and playing out their relationship among various heists. Lee Byung-hun gave a marvelous performance as a gifted assassin who deep down has a good sense of right and wrong. However, my husband admitted that he enjoyed Anthony Hopkins in the role as Dr. Edward Bailey the most. This was because Hopkins gave an admirable performance as a physicist who is called upon for his talents. My favorite performances were a tie between Helen Mirren as Victoria Winters and John Malkovich as Marvin Boggs. Mirren gives a splendid performance as a trained and true femme fatale who still has a heart for her fellow friends while accomplishing her duties in an efficient manner (there is a comical scene where she is portraying the queen of England). My husband also liked Mirren's performance, but more for her flirty demeanor and her elegant style while doing one of her jobs (there is a scene where she is aiming her gun in a stylish outfit and letting her boyfriend touch her feet). I enjoyed Malkovich's commendable performance as Boggs because he plays a man with the right touch of paranoia who also is a skilled mediator for his fellow colleagues/friends. There are also electrifying scenes in the movie where the characters are shown traveling to England, France, and Russia. "Red 2" is a terrific film for those who enjoyed the first "Red" movie and/or like action films. The following actors/actresses also play important parts in "Red 2": Catherine Zeta Jones as Katya, Brian Cox as Ivan Simanov, David Thewlis as The Frog, and Neal McDonough as Jack Horton.

"Red 2" is an even bigger and better comedy action thriller than 2010's "Red", featuring everyone's favorite "retired-extremely dangerous" spies. A superb cast has a blast with the plot and the dialogue as the action runs from Kansas to Washington DC to Paris to London to Moscow.

Retired spy Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) is attempting to live a quiet life with girlfriend Sarah (Mary Louise Parker) in Kansas. Old and very paranoid friend Marvin (John Malkovich) warns them of the resurrection of a mysterious Cold War plot known as Operation NIGHTSHADE. Marvin disappears in a car explosion and Frank is taken in for interrogation by the CIA's nasty Jack Horton (Neal McDonough). Frank will of course escape and go on the run with Sarah and the resilient Marvin.

It will turn out that the answers to NIGHTSHADE are inside the head of Dr. Edward Bailey (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant but deranged scientist held incommunicado by Britain's MI-6 for the last thirty years. Frank, already wanted by the CIA, MI-6, and the KGB, will also have to contend with a paid assassin named Han (Byung-Hun Lee). He will get help from a former MI-6 operative (Helen Mirren), a former Russian spymaster (Brian Cox), and a former KGB agent and ex-lover (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Together, they will have to find a reclusive information peddler known as the Frog, sneak into a high security detention area, and break into, and out of, the Kremlin. The action and suspense are virtually non-stop, and if the plot doesn't necessarily make a lot of sense, it's all tongue-in-cheek good fun, well done by a group of talented actors with impeccable comedic timing. Recommended as an afternoon's good entertainment.

The film incorporates Wikileaks as the new problem child for Moses Frank (Bruce Willis) and company. An article claims he and Marvin (John Malkovich) were involved in a 1979 operation called "Night Shade." They have become wanted men.

In an expanded role Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker) our meek lady from Kansas has become a thrill seeker and joins the group as they travel the world to find "Night Shade." In addition to Interpol and the Feds looking for our heroes, there is also a hitman (Byung-hun Lee) after them and Victoria (Helen Mirren) is also contracted to kill them...Malkovich proclaims "Friends don't take out a contract on friends." They are allied by KGB agent Katja (Catherine Zeta-Jones) to the displeasure of sweet innocent Sarah who says..."Can't we just kill her?"

The film is filled with Malkovich one liners which we enjoyed in the first movie. The expanded role of Sarah added to the feature. This is perhaps a notch below the first installment, but a worthy action-comedy sequel that will be in my collection when it comes out.

Parental Guide: No sex or nudity. One half spoken f-bomb.

The Prince & Me 2: The Royal Wedding (2006)

The Prince & Me 2: The Royal WeddingAs a fan of the original Prince & Me this sequel has to be one of the worst ever made. Aside from the talented Luke Mably (who clearly looks uncomfortable in his reprised role as Prince Edvard of Denmark) the rest of the cast and the whole plot of the film is hideous. The actress portraying Paige (Kam Hesketh)lacks any depth and refinement that Julia Stiles brought to the role in the first film. In this sequel some ancient law prohibits Edvard from marrying Paige. Enter some poor Norwegian royal and his ditzy daughter Princess Kirsten who wants to marry Edvard and become Queen of Denmark. In the role of Zoren (The Prince's assistant) Jonathan Firth manages to retain some of the dignity that Ben Miller created, but Maryam D'Abo's Queen Rosalind looks more like a well worn socialite from the Cape and the King has suddenly transformed into a bald and bearded old man. There is no Arabella (Edvard's sister)and Paige's parents are totally miscast. I cannot understand why this follow-up was ever made since Luke Mably is the only returning cast member. This film went straight to DVD so the studio will never recoupe their losses for this turkey.

The only original cast member present is the Prince (Luke Mably) and while he is enjoyable to watch, the chemistry isn't there with this "Kam" person. Julia Stiles brought a down to earth quality to the role, which was what it was meant to be. This new girl is a terrible actress and on top of that, she has this prissy looking curly do throughout the film. Paige is supposed to be a down to earth, no nonsense girl, who is a med student and would never wear such a prissy hairstyle. The Prince's sister is completely absent in the family. The mother doesn't have the same regalness about her as the original actress and the father is looking in top shape when supposedly he stepped down due to health reasons, so Edvard could take the throne. This is just awful. Don't waste your money.

First you wonder where the rest of the cast has gone, not even the minor, minor characters have returned for a reprise (except the poor Prince).

The plot is not worthy of a movie of the week. It is the typical "We must prevent a commoner from ascending to throne."

Trust me, put the first one back in the DVD player and lets pretend it just did not happen. Watch it and you will be royally sore.

I loved the first "Prince and Me" and was sad to see that Julia Stiles did not return for the sequel. I didn't expect much from the movie after having read some of the reviews but "Prince and Me 2" really isn't as bad as it is made out to be. You cannot compare it to the first film because the first film did have more going for it a bigger budget, more experienced director and screenwriters, more talented cast (Julia, James Fox, Miranda Richardson and Ben Miles sadly do not return), better script and higher production values.

"Prince and Me 2", however, isn't totally devoid of charm. Luke Mably is back and still as handsome as ever. His character IS more serious and more grown up after all, he is king now. Kam Heskin (who I did like in the modern day "Pride & Prejudice") replaces Julia as Paige Morgan and does what the script demands of her. The always likeable Jonathan Firth (Colin's brother) is a fair replacement for Ben Miles as Soren eventhough his role is fairly small. Clemency Burton-Hill is quite good as the conniving Princess Kirsten and the majority of locations from the first film are back in the sequel.

Instead of the romantic drama that "Prince & Me" was, this version is more of a romantic comedy. In fact, I couldn't help comparing it to "The Princess Diaries 2" somehow. After all, this film is about a nobleman relative who introduces a 'complication' to the royal succession and brings forward his younger relative (his daughter) as a more suitable wife to the prince. "TPD 2" is very similar except that the nobleman puts forward his younger relative (his nephew) as a more suitable successor to the throne.

This film has its faults, of course. There are a few scenes that are a tad silly or corny (several comedies are guilty of this, unfortunately). The actors in this film simply do not have the experience and talent that the first film had. The screenplay could use some work. I also agree that though Kam Heskin's Paige is not bad, this Paige is just not the same intelligent, ambitious, down-to-earth and no-nonsense Paige that we fell in love with in the first film. I really wish the filmmakers made more of an effort to follow the story thread and characterizations of the first film.

All this aside, I still liked this sequel to "Prince and Me." It was nice to see Paige and Prince Edvard's relationship reach its conclusion and Luke Mably is always a pleasure to watch. If you like romantic comedies with the sort of slapstick humor that "Princess Diaries 2" or "Ella Enchanted" have, for instance, then this movie is worth a watch. Lower your expectations and don't expect it to be exactly like the first "Prince and Me" and you won't be disappointed.

I hadn't even realized that there were plans to make a sequal, I happened to stumble acrossed this film while purchasing another movie. At first I was excieted because I am a self proclaimed royalty acholic and I enjoy finding any film or show royalty related. This however was the biggest disappointment since the last Princess Diaries book came out. It was more like a satire of the first film than a sequal, resorting to slap stick acting and totally unrealistic scenario's. Worst of all, the wedding dress and tiara, they looked like she ran to the local mall and picked them out. Last time I checked Denmark had a nice jewelry collection, they weren't going to let the future queen wear something at least real? There are some Danish fashion houses I'm sure who would have made that poor girl an original dress so she wasn't stuck with one right off the rack. Utterly disappointing at best.

The Tim Burton Collection (Pee Wee's Big Adventure/Beetlejuice/Batman/Batman Returns/Mars Attacks!/

The Tim Burton CollectionI'm already seeing some criticism for this set not containing some of Tim Burton's best films.

To that I say, take a breath and think before you type.

This set is being released by Warner Brothers. All of the films in this collection were productions made with Warner Brothers Studios. The Tim Burton films that are missing from this set were made at other studios.

For example...

Edward Scissorhands? 20th Century Fox

The Nightmare Before Christmas? Disney (Orginally a Touchstone production)

Sleepy Hollow? Paramount

Big Fish? Dreamworks

Ed Wood? Touchstone (aka Disney)

Sweeney Todd? Dreamworks

Alice in Wonderland? Disney

So...before you go spitting venom, do some homework. You're getting seven films at a great price from arguably one of the most visionary directors of our time. I call that a bargain.

I just got my Tim Burton set in the mail today, so pull up a chair, and let me tell you what you get.

First of all, I will freely admit that I am a HUGE Tim Burton fan, and was very excited when I saw this listed on Amazon. I sold my copies of the movies I already owned on Blu-ray to pay for it. Of course, with the price being so low on this set, I actually ended up making a profit.

THE PACKAGING: When you open your copy, you will find a very sturdy box with the artwork shown on the website on the front, and the same border design on the back with a listing of all the movies included in the set. The discs themselves are housed in a foldout digi-pak, with the discs secured in a two-disc stack pattern. Since there are only seven discs, Batman is attached with a single hub. This is the type packaging where you have to remove the top disc in order to get the bottom disc out. I didn't have any problems, and I feel the discs are all very secure and safe. In addition to the discs being in the foldout package, there is also a list of all the supplemental material available for each title. I thought that was a nice touch. Each discs also has new artwork that is in keeping with the design that is present in the border around the front and back of the box. I liked the fact that new artwork was created for the discs, instead of just throwing discs in with the current artwork on them. Nice touch!! The movies all have the same special features as was present on previous Blu-ray releases.

THE BOOKLET: The booklet is a great treat. Each movie gets anywhere from 6 to 12 pages each in the book. The book is a hardcover, and the pages are all thick with a shiny sheen to them.

* Pee Wee 8 pages

* Beetlejuice 6 pages

* Batman 8 pages

* Batman Returns 8 pages

* Mars Attacks 8 pages

* Corpse Bride 12 pages

* Charlie 12 pages

Each film gets an introduction, poster page, behind the scenes shots, some sketch art, movie info, and trivia. This is very nice, and should count as a blu-ray exclusive feature since this set is not available on DVD. I was just expecting to see a few pictures stuck in a book, with little thought put into it. What you get is a very well thought out little book, that adds to the enjoyment of each film.

BOTTOM LINE: If you don't have any of these on Blu-ray, then I would strongly suggest you get this set. It's a great price for what you get. If you do already own them, you may want to consider doing what I did. Sell all your current copies on Amazon, and then turn around and order this set. I ended up making a nice little profit, plus now I have all of these Burton films in a very nice collection which will proudly be displayed on my shelf.

Stop reading this and get this now. Trust me, if you love these movies, then this beautifully designed box set is for you. The blu-rays themselves make these movies look better than they ever have and I've owned most of these on VHS and first generation DVDs. Plus, this is a great way to get Batman and Batman Returns, which for some reason are insanely expensive when bought individually on BD at the time of this writing. The book is lovingly designed with nice pictures and tidbits about each of the movies. While I would've loved to have seen some special features added to Mars Attacks! and some movie-specific features to Beetlejuice besides the cartoons, this is just a small qualm that does not take away from the special quality of this package. Also makes an awesome gift for the Tim Burton fan in your life. Enjoy!

This collection is a fun assortment of Tim Burton films. I was initially attracted to this collection due to its wonderful packaging. The case is sturdy and has a wonderful montage of the characters from the films on the front. Located inside is the Digipak-style case, which holds all seven films. I was thrilled to have a chance to own many of my childhood favorites (especially both Batman films, Beetlejuice, and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure).

The Batman films alone are hard to find, and are a great pair of films. The accompanying book is very nice, and provides some wonderful behind the scenes photos of the director and some of his cast. If you are a Tim Burton fan, buy this collection! You will not be disappointed.
