SenselessThis movie has nothing but comedy written all over it. Fast moving plot with the right recipe of characters. Hilarious to the bone and excellent set up. If you are looking for a great laugh and enjoy the humor only David Spade and Marlon Wayans can bring, pick this one up. An excellent addition to any DVD collection. Fun for all to watch!

This movie came out in the late 90s when Marlon was in his prime. This is one of his better films, you know what to expect from the Wayans, laugh out loud comedy. You seen the show The Wayans Bros.(WHICH SHOULD OF NEVER GOT CANCELED!!! I WAS SO HEATED) but i digress lol, this movie is great, original material, the movie has a good concept, Marlon is spectacular. Buy this along with The Sixth Man, that movie is good money too.

This movie was much funnier than I thought it would be. I had meduim expectations, because the Waynes brothers are all hilarious, but I'd never heard of the movie, which isn't a good sign. First of all, never judge a movie and how funny it is if you watch it on cable. The editors and censors on tv edit some very funny stuff out of movies. Anyway, if you liked "white chicks", "hot chick", or any movie that includes lots of funny faces or drug humour, you'll love this movie (actually there is NO drug humour if I remember right, but the humour style reminds me of the type of humour that is found on Orange County when Jack Black administers ecxtacy to the Dean of the school if you haven't seen it you should).

This movie is funny enough that I saw it once and I've already bought it. Also, if you have seen "Without a Paddle" you should, that movie is funnnnny.

I've seen this movie a dozen times (and no, I'm not a nerd) and it never get's less funny. The jokes still make me laugh just as hard. Marlon Wayans really shows off his comedic talent in this, probably more than any other movie he's ever done. See it and you'll know what I mean. The script is solid, and David Spade is the same as always, which is a good thing. I love the line "Dad, I know you love me! Remember that time you almost said it?" Check this movie out. Stuck up people with absolutely no sense of humor should not see this movie though, I wouldn't want them to actually have a good time while watching something, now would I?

Woman

WomanThis is a truly disturbing movie and you would be hard pushed to find a more twisted and nasty character than Chris Creek, played brilliantly by Sean Bridges. This movie is heavy going and there aren't many Taboos that dont surface in it,cannabalism, incest, wife beating, child abduction and rape to name a few. Pollyanna McIntosh plays the feral woman and does an excellent job in this gripping movie that will leave you with an unpleasant taste in your mouth.

The film opens with Pollyanna McIntosh as a feral woman. She has an injury to her side and hunts and kills a wolf. Her legs look pretty darn good for a person who has lived outdoors their entire life, not one scrape, scar, or even hair on the legs...and her armpits are shaved!

Sean Bridgers plays Chris Cleek, an unlikeable man of wealth. He sees our feral woman in the woods behind his house while out hunting. He has a mousey wife (Angela Bettis), a teen daughter, a son who has trouble with his free throws and a young daughter who likes to kiss boys to the horror of her mother. Sean Bridgers orders his family around who pretty much obey him, like zombies, without question.

He captures the wild woman, and rather than turn her over to the authorities, he chains her up in their basement/shed. He is very open about it and shows her to his family who are completely dumbfounded. Chris Cleek rules the roost and doesn't like to be questioned. He reminds me of a creepy Will Ferrell. Their task is to civilize the woman, a woman who wants no master.

The two older children Peg and Brian are portrayed as abnormally reclusive self imposed social outcasts, signs of an abnormal home life. We know this is true because of the lame indie music soundtrack that plays when they are on screen by themselves. Having a scantily clad female chained up around a teen boy brings about some natural curiosity tendencies.

The wife and older daughter feel like a prisoner, like the feral woman who symbolizes their imprisonment. Sean Bridges symbolizes the "system" which imprisons women. There are scenes showing violence to women that were hard to watch, even though we don't see the actual strikes, we see the arm movement and hear the blows.

The movie starts semi-normal, goes to odd, then downright weird as Sean Bridges fights to be the master of his world filled with rebellious women. Sean's son sides with him to give us the full symbolism of the battle of the sexes with men being aggressive controlling rapists and women the victim.

Many of the actors in this film are new to the industry. In spite of that, they did a solid job.

F-bomb, Full frontal nudity (Pollyanna McIntosh), rape, torture, blood, gore. While I give this movie 4 stars, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

THE WOMAN is sort of the rural-American version of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. It's all about human monsters amongst us. Pollyanna McIntosh plays the brutal / brutalized, title character so well that it's (refreshingly) disturbing! Watching her is like watching a wolf or tiger in captivity! She gives off a wildness like I've never seen before! Angela Bettis (MAY, TOOLBOX MURDERS) is excellent as the abused, emotionally-deadened spouse of the psychopathic husband (Sean Bridgers) who instigates most of the film's horror. The Cleeks are a seemingly normal family, until the layers of normalcy begin to chip, peel, and fall away completely! THE WOMAN is intense, unpredictable, and insane. A horrific marvel...

Thought the premise sounded interesting, and I was right. The only thing that surprised me was what a great villain Chris Cleek made. You love to hate him and end up rooting for "the woman"--or, really, the women. Also, I absolutely loved the soundtrack. I would have given this movie a higher score had the acting not been weak in some areas and the fact that it just overall reminded me too much of "The Girl Next Door," which Lucky McKee and Ketchum both had to do with, if I'm not mistaken. The ending also was a little too ridiculous, but horror movies can easily get away with that. One more thing--the makeup was ABSURD. They made a beautiful girl look absolutely disgusting, and I loved that.

I heard a lot about this movie being a "feminist film." I don't know if I would agree with that. Sure, it shows a strong female character, but what is the point other than the fact that she's strong-willed? I can understand some of the theories, especially with the ending (which I won't ruin), but still...I guess I need to read a good essay on this movie.

If you like a good gore movie that also centers around issues that we globally face today, I'd definitely recommend this movie. TRIGGER WARNING, AND POSSIBLE SPOILER: If you're not much for torture films or anything reminiscent of rape, domestic violence, verbal abuse, etc., please do not watch.

Casino Royale (1967)

Casino RoyaleFinally this comedic take on the James Bond series makes its way onto DVD, and for completists and fans of James Bond this DVD promises not only the 1967 version of Ian Flemings first 007 novel but also an edited down version of the very first James Bond movie, the 1950s CBS TV movie that starred Barry Nelson as James Bond (thats right, Sean Connery was NOT the first actor to portray 007). Made for an American audience, the character of James Bond is a CIA agent in that show and Leiter is the British intelligence agent. That movie, which is listed as a special feature on this DVD, also starred Peter Lorre as the villain Le Chiffre. Made in the days of live television this entertaining oddity is worth watching for the bloopers alone.

Years later, the rights to "Casino Royale" made it into the hands of another movie producer who, convinced that any attempt to make a serious version of "Casino Royale" would be doomed without the talents of Sean Connery, decided to make the remake as a comedy instead. With Peter Sellers playing James Bond and Orson Welles taking on the role of Le Chiffre everything seemed to be going fine until a script dispute caused Sellers to walk out on the project. Left with half a movie the producers were in trouble and they scrambled to save their production. One needs to understand this background to the movie to understand why it turned out the way it did. In it's final version it seems truly confused with several actors portraying the role of James Bond and several directors (including John Huston who also cameos as M) taking a crack at it. There is even an early appearance by Woody Allen and former Bond girl Ursula Andress. For me personally, the Peter Sellers scenes are especially brilliant and very funny and David Niven plays the perfect gentleman spy. The action comes thick and fast and in addition to Andress there are a number of actors familiar to devotees to the rival EON productions. This movie is truly unique among the Bond canon and should be enjoyed as such.

NOTE: This review is NOT for the "Casino Royale (40th Anniversary Edition)" DVD despite the fact that Amazon lists the review on the product page for that 2007 DVD (note the 2002 date of this review).

Eon Production's DR. NO was a great hit in the early 1960s, and Eon quickly snapped up the rights to the rest of Ian Flemming's novels about super spy James Bond--except for the CASINO ROYALE, which had already been purchased earlier by CBS for a 1950s television adaptation. When the property wound up at Columbia Pictures, they decided to create the satire to end all satires with a host of writers, five famous directors, and an all-star cast led by Peter Sellers. But Sellers' ego reached critical mass during the production and he was fired mid-way into filming--and suddenly roles that were originally envisioned as cameos had to be expanded to finish the project. The result is one of the most bizarre films imaginable. The story, such as it is, finds James Bond (David Niven) called out of retirement to deal with the sudden disappearance of secret agents all over the world. In order to confuse the unknown enemy, Sir James orders ALL secret agents to use the name James Bond--and before you can blink there are Bonds aplenty running wild all over the globe. Eventually all the Bonds, including (through the magic of editing) Peter Sellers, wind up at Casino Royale, where they confront the evil agents of SMERSH and a diabolical mad man with a plot to rule the world.

The plot is absolute chaos, but that doesn't prevent the film from being a lot of fun to watch. The entire cast runs wild with some marvelous over-the-top performances, and whenever the writers can jam in a gag or a weird plot turn they do precisely that: Bond (Niven) is attacked by decoy ducks; counter-agent Mimi (Deborah Kerr) swings from a drain pipe; Bond's daughter by Mata Hari (Joanna Pettet) is kidnapped by a UFO; double agent Vesper (Ursula Andress) hides bodies in the deep freeze. And that's just for starters.

At one point Niven blows up the locked door of a psychedelically decorated dudgeon with lysergic acid--better know as LSD--and in a way this is indicative of the entire film, which was made at the height of the 1960s ultra-mod movement: the whole thing has the feel of a blow-out acid trip, right down to flashing multicolored lights and swinging 60s fashions. It is visually arresting, to say the least. And then there is that famous Burt Bacharach score, easily one of the best of the decade, sporting Herp Albert on the main theme and Dusty Springfield's legendary performance of "The Look of Love." On the whole, the film is one of the most entertaining hodgepodges of talent and weirdness I've ever encountered, and it never fails to amuse. As for the DVD itself, the print is good and the sound is too. The extras are a bit disappointing, however. The original CBS version, included here, is a bore, and the making-of documentary is essentially a prolonged interview with one the film's several directors. I've found that viewers tend to have extremely different reactions to this film--they either love it or hate it, so you may want to rent this one first. But it's one of my favorite guilty pleasures, and I recommend it for fans of the unexpectedly odd.

As a '60s afficionado I finally got around to seeing this great psychedelic mindblower of a film. It starts off slow....enter Ursula Andress. There are at least 100 beautiful European girls in this film and I can see Woody Allen's motivation to kill all men taller than him so he can get them all. As the film takes off you realize that you have to be on Acid to understand the plot, as everyone remotely connected with this film must've been. The sets range from a Scottish castle to a Berlin haunted house to Orson Wells' psychedelic torture chamber complete with mod spiral funhouse rooms, and it gets more bizarre from there. Great music by Burt Bacharach (The Look of Love).

Has cameos from practically every British star of the time, has a Spaceship full of Woody's duplicate World Leaders...it has everything. What can I say, if you like the '60s you'll love this if you possess that '60s Psychodelic Consciousness that is.

Casino Royale is hilarious bond spoof produced during the time while Sean Connery was still playing James Bond in the regular Bond films. It has a remarkable cast of stars, including David Niven, Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, and a young 32 year old Woody Allen.

The film suffers from a certain amount of discontinuity, which having only seen it on TV in the past, I took to be an artifact of it being edited for television. The extra material provided with the DVD, an interview with director Val Guest, explains why this is (I won't spoil it for you). Keeping these behind-the-scenes facts in mind, makes the movie even more entertaining.

I probably laughed more as I child when I watched this movie, but I certainly get more of the jokes as an adult. It's also great fun to take a trip back in time and see these classic actors spoofing the Bond image. I give Casino Royale 4 stars for nostalgia and goofy fun.

This was made in the mid 1960's, at the hight of the Bond Boom and popular legend has it that it was an artistic and comercial disaster. Althogh it did better at the box office than it is often given credit it had massive production costs and it certanly isn't as well made as the official Bond films but it is also not without merit.

It has a wonderful cast headed by David Niven and Peter Sellers along with the good and the great of British comedy from the period. Ursula Andress is the female lead and unlike her apearance in "Dr. No", we at least get to hear her real voice; her exotic cosumes were designed by Julie Harris who went on to perform a similar service in "Live and Let Die".

The photography is surperb and the digital remastering makes it truly a feast for the eyes. The production design is at least comparable with the EON series.

My favorite aspect of the film is Bert Bacharach's score; almost every scene has its own tune and each one is a delight. "The Look Of Love" has to be one of the most sensual songs ever writen for a film and it has the images to match! Bacharach and David worked hard to capture the movement of Ursula Andress and they more than succeded.

The only thing that lets the movie down is that it is episodic feel to the whole film (probably because of the numerous directors) and the fact that it is about twenty minutes too long. It is hard to sustain tounge in cheek humour for over two and a half houres.

The Austin Powers films owe a lot to this and several other movies of the period ("Our Man Flint" the Matt Helm Movies etc.) and its fun to see where he got his insperation.

Year One (Theatrical & Unrated Edition) (2009)

Year OneI seem to find myself in the minority here, but I actually liked "Year One". Having seen it in the theater, I thought it was a fairly fun and light-hearted experience all around. The humor is perhaps not as broad as some prefer-but myself, I sort of enjoyed the subtleties. These type of films usually benefit from a second or even third viewing if you give them a chance.

In "Year One", Jack Black plays his part adequately but seems to yield the majority of the spotlight to his on-screen cohort Michael Cera. Michael Cera is the real star of "Year One" and Black seems to know it-taking a step back for the younger comedic actor to really shine. Cera's comedic delivery is dry and spot-on for his character "Oh" and he plays the part with real charismatic charm. In short, it is Cera's film, not Black's-and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

When it comes down to it, Year One is just a harmless little diversionary film which doesn't take itself too seriously and nor should you. I personally thought it had a lot of wit and charm. Perhaps it just didn't strike the majority of audiences in the same way. That's too bad too because personally, I found this film far more entertaining than some of the summer's bloated special effects films.

Surprisingly, this film looks amazing on Blu-Ray too-especially the city scenes.

I've read a couple of critical reviews of this movie and can't help but laugh at the disdain for this movie. I don't see how people expected greatness and depth out of a movie with Jack Black set in prehistoric and biblical times. I mean could they not see that by looking at the cover with a clean shaven, doe eyed Cera cast as a caveman? You want comedic depth, go watch "Best in Show" or "Arrested Development". You want silly and mindless toilet humor, then watch this.

I didn't go into this movie expecting an Oscar worthy movie or ground breaking performance, in fact nobody should. This movie is obviously intended for you to shut your brain down and let go for a couple of hours. I really enjoyed this movie and love Black in these type of roles. Cera plays the same role as he did in "Superbad" which isn't a bad thing since he's perfect as the shy awkward guy. You get that this movie is going in a whole different direction from the on-set of the movie when the cavemen speak with current day dialogue. It's right at that point where you're either sticking with it or bailing because even the most novice move watcher knows that this isn't "History of the World". If you like stuff from the Apatow troupe then this movie might be up your alley. If you don't get the Apatow reference then you obviously won't get this movie.

This movie definitly has slow parts and jokes that don't always work as well as intended, so don't expect this to be a summer blockbuster. Don't have any high expectations for any Jack Black movie or Michael Cera movie really... If you like history or the humanitites you will definitly enjoy this movies multiple settings as they go through the early centuries. I would recommend at least a rental, if you're bored and are looking for something to mindlessly enjoy.

I did not have too high expectations for this movie, the plot looked silly and the actors are not the best in Hollywood. Suprisingly, the plot threw in many references to the Old Testament. They followed books of the bible in a similar way that Forrest Gump followed events in 60's culture. It was cleverly done. I was pleased to see Paul Rudd, although for only a brief appearance. Yes, it contained silly, teenage boy humor, but what else would you expect from a movie with Jack Black and Michael Cera? If you like these guys, you'll probably like this movie.

Samurai Girls: Complete Collection (2011)

Samurai Girls: Complete CollectionWhile overall the story of the series has been done over many times at the end the characters do endear themselves to you enough that the series in whole is worth looking at. The basic premise of the series is you have one young man a skilled fighter who inherits a somewhat deteriorated dojo where he begins to meet well endowed women after women(Eight total I figure) all extremely attractive and with the exception of one of them all extremely endowed(Again with a lot of harem animes we have to have one who while technically a young adult appears childlike pushing the Lolita factor a little). Though after one of them Jubei Yagyu appears in the sky and shares a kiss with the young man Munekira Yagyu she becomes a powerful warrior causing all the other females to want to share a kiss with the young man since it seems that by doing so empowers them with incredible fighting prowess. The series is supposed to be a mix of edo and present time since the Tokugawa Shogunate remains in power keeping alive the samurai way of life for the most part, that isn't to say there isn't any technological development you'll see a mix of shogunate lifestyle with modern conveniences intermixed into the series. The series animation is something you have to get used to as I haven't seen this kind anywhere really, the character animation is pretty standard a little mix of Naruto and Ikki Toussen the background animation though feels like one of those 3D games you see like with Street Fighter or BlazeBlue not the exact same thing but a little close to it check out a couple of images or trailers to really get an idea of the series animation. The voice cast for the Japanese did superbly in their character roles and surprisingly so did the English cast, at first I wasn't so sure about them as I checked online for their past credentials and couldn't find anything but if you've already bought a few ADV or Funimation released sets then many of these dubbed voice actors will sound familiar to you. The set comes in three disc, the first two hold the entire series the third is the bonus disc which has some very entertaining extras on it. So if you like series like Sekirei, Naruto, Inu Yasha, or Ikki Touseen with a touch of humor and a ton of fan service here's a entertaining series to check out...

I'll be honest, I didn't really read much about this show ahead-of-time. I read the general synopsis and went ahead and bought it because it sounded interesting. Most animes are suggestive and have sexy anime characters, but they're usually clothed. Lots of full-on nudity in this show, so don't buy this for kids.

The plot is pretty good, kind of predictable and silly, but I really enjoyed it. The drawing was decent although the blotching at the beginning was disconcerting, and the characters as a whole have enough personality to make the show enjoyable. The guy who does the voice for the main character is probably my least favorite because he comes off as entirely too dramatic, but the other characters' voices make up for it. If you like a light-hearted, fun anime where one wave of a sword blows people's clothes off this one is worth watching.

There seems to be a dojo master called Muneakira who turns females in samurai masters with powerful elemental powers by kissing them. There is a lot of nudity with large breasts, but no observed sex acts. There are several females characters with their own unique personalities.

I watched the first episode on hulu and decided to buy the series to watch the rest. It seemed interesting at the time and the reviews here weren't half bad, but...in the end I wasn't too much impressed. I liked the animation style which was truly unique and very nice to watch on blu-ray. I even liked all the "eye candy" with the girls, yeah I said it. Parents be ware that these woman WILL be exposed above the waiste quite often, all while implying suggestive acts. Other than those two things I didn't like much. Story was not fully threshed out and rushed in the final couple episodes leaving a lot of unknowns. Really could have used more episodes or used the time in the series more wisely, maybe less boobs and more story? Anyways, if your looking for nice style, animated bossoms, and suggestive poses pic this up, if not...turn away and don't look back.

Want Samurai Girls: Complete Collection (2011) Discount?

Great animation and good characters are the bread and butter of Samurai Girls. The art stands alone as innovative and the characters are pretty cool. There's not much else about this one that keeps ya watching. The story is really thin. They resort to constant nudity to keep it afloat. I enjoy watching chicks get their outfits shredded but that's no substitute for a memorable story. The pros and cons balance each other out and this anime is left being just ok. I don't think I'll sell it, but I probably won't watch it over and over either.

Snakes on a Plane (2009)

Snakes on a PlaneLook, if I wanted to watch one of the greatest movies of all time... "Citizen Kane" or "The Godfather" or "Jean de Florette" or "Airplane!", I would have stayed home with my DVDs. No. If I wanted subtle man-versus-vermin psychological horror, with organ music, I would have stayed home and listened to William Conrad as "Leiningen vs. The Ants".

No. No, no, no! I wanted to go out on a Friday night and I wanted to see snakes on a plane. Mo'fo' snakes on a mo'fo' plane. And that is exactly what I got.

The problems with this movie are very few. Number one, the main character in this movie is a surfer dude but the movie was shot in British Columbia. That's not a problem. Good second unit photography will have you convinced that you're on Waikiki Beach, and you didn't come to this movie to see surfer dudes, anyway. You wanted to see a CGI plane battling turbulence, and really vicious CGI snakes.

Number two, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes for the snakes to get out into the cabin and start rearing and biting. That's not a problem either. Make a list of every delicate body part you'd expect a snake to bite, and once the snakes get out, game on. You're waiting for the big python to show up? Well, that's at least an hour wait, but once he's out, game on.

Number three, it takes Samuel L. Jackson so long to drop That Line that you almost wonder if he's not ever going to say it. Again, not a problem.

Look, this movie was probably first-drafted in screenwriting class. The writers care way too much about their reluctant FBI witness to a mob hit scenario, when the audience just wants snakes. Snakes on a plane. And then when we finally hit the airport, you can do a head count of the passengers and figure out who's going to die, how, and when. There's the stuffy British business traveler (I had him pegged as the first to die), the hot-to-trot sexy young couple -the girl's in pink thong panties, the aging flight attendant on her last flight, and the ambiguously gay male steward. Finally, the overweight comedy co-pilot with the Texas accent. The script writes itself.

But it's got snakes. Snakes on a plane. If you took the time to come to this page and rate the movie one or two stars, you clearly didn't realize what movie you were buying tickets to go see and you shouldn't have been there in the first place. If you want to see your awesomely bad snakes on a plane picture, this is literally the only movie to go see.

Sequels: Snakes on a Train. Snakes in Portland, Maine. Snakes in the Drain. Snakes in the Fast Lane. Snakes in the Cold November Rain. Snakes in a Music Video with House of Pain. Snakes in the Batter's Box with Ferris Fain. And finally... Snakes on a Train II. Bring it on!

Snakes on a Plane is one of those wacky, implausible action/thrillers that you get a kick out of, but don't take too seriously. I mean, c'mon, really, on paper the concept of passengers having to deal with crawly reptiles while trapped thousands of feet in the air just shouts out CHEESY! But it somehow works. It has that fun, tongue-in-cheek, popcorn feel of films like Arachnophobia and Tremors. And, like those two films, Snakes on a Plane lives up to its promise of vicarious thrills, as it has enough jump-in-your-seat moments to seem like a wild Magic Mountain ride; that's the kind of rush you get.

And it doesn't take itself seriously. It is what it is: snakes on a plane. But it doesn't hurt that the film has someone of Samuel Jackson's caliber to headline it. Ever since Pulp Fiction, Samuel Jackson has been identified with hipness and has been hailed universally (but mostly by the MTV gen) as the coolest cat around, and whatever vehicle he stars in seems to gain some kind of credibility. Yup, even this decidedly B-level movie.

Very quickly, the plot: When Sean Jones (Nathan Phillips) witnesses a brutal murder in Hawaii, he becomes the lead witness to the prosecution trying to put away arch-criminal Eddie Kim (Byron Lawson). Sean is placed in protective custody, under the eyes of his watchdog FBI Agent Flynn (Samuel Jackson). Sean and Agent Flynn board a redeye flight headed for Los Angeles, where Eddie Kim is currently under close surveillance and where Sean will testify. But Kim has found out about Sean and decides to take care of him by sneaking a crate of venomous snakes on the plane. Now, the plane's vent circulation has been laced with pheromones which rile up these creatures, and when the plane launches and the crate's time release mechanism sets loose the snakes well, the crazy fun is on!

There are so many scenarios you can come up with when you have snakes on the prowl, slithering in a confined area, amongst clueless people, and the writers dreamt up some doozies. There's one particular bathroom scene (no, not the couple making out, the other bathroom scene) that made me really cringe. Also a standout moment was the passenger lady with the barf bag. And biting or squeezing victims (yes, there's an anaconda!) aren't all that these snakes do. They double the jeopardy by getting into the plane's inner mechanisms and wirings and take out the flight's avionics system. And, of course, both pilots succumb to snake villainy. Oh, is there no end to these snake shenanigans?

The acting, like the cheesy plot, is mediocre. Even my ER crush Julianna Margulies is just decent here. The one standout (other than Jackson) is Gerard Plunkett, who has brief moments as a rude-as-hell businessman, who had been ousted from first class. He really got under my skin, which is ironic, because later on...well, you'll see. And how does Samuel Jackson fare, acting wise? The usual. Jackson brings his patented "cool," his ferocity, and his full-on commitment into the role of Special Agent Nelville Flynn. No surprise there. Whether armed with a taser, a fire extinguisher, a harpoon gun, or contemplating using a spork as a weapon, you daren't bet against him.

The death-by-snake sequences are depicted in such a gruesome, graphic manner, yet they're done in such a broad, over-the-top style that the violence is blunted and the scenes go beyond being offensive to being surreal. Let's face it, in the right situations (like in movie theatres), we enjoy being scared. It's kinda like taking that ride in Universal, and King Kong shows up, and you jump and chuckle. Or maybe visiting a fun house. Or, again, like taking a Magic Mountain ride. That's what it felt like to me. And, of course, the audience went wild when Agent Flynn said what everyone had been waiting for: "Enough is enough! I have had it with these *&%(!! snakes on this *&%(!! plane!"

Samuel Jackson vowed on the MTV Movie Awards that Snakes on a Plane will win the best movie on MTV next year. I'm rooting for him. Three and a half stars.

Snakes On A Plane DVD

Warning not for young children ( if you ever want them to fly ) some frontal nudity and violence galore.

This film does for commercial flying what JAWS did for swimming in the ocean.

Samuel L. Jackson rocked the house with his great acting and line delivery (you know the one), and even the CGI snakes looked really good. I figured the most I would give this film would be 3 stars, but the movie won me over. If you just want to have mindless fun with loads of snakes, a bada** black dude, and some gross out gore with a little boobie action thrown in for good measure, look no further than the aptly titled Snakes on a Motherf**kin Plane!

I especially laughed at the guy draining his hose who had a snake latch onto his tallywacker. Ouch!

Recommended for teenagers and up. Not recommended for small children.

My wife made it as far as the point in the film where the python shows up, and then she fled the theater. Prior to that point she had jumped and screamed eight times, hit me four times, and dug her fingernails into my arm three times. She also took several opportunities to tell me that I owed her because I was making her watch this movie, but that was before she got up and left me there alone. To be fair, she did return for the end of the movie, by which time she had apparently reconsidered our situation during that interim period and had upgraded by status so that she now informed me that she owned me and that she would determine how and when I would be made to pay for this.

When I suggested going to a movie today because Friday is (usually) the day that new films show up in town and she asked me what we could go see I had said, "Snakes on a Plane." I had expected her to say "No." Actually I was hoping that she would say, "There is no way that I am going to see that m****r-f********g film about those m****r-f********g snakes on that m****r-f********g plane," but that is simply not her style. So I did not really think she would want to see this film and would maintain that she went of her own free will. However, when I suggested that we would have to own this film when it came out on DVD she told me that would be the day I would be moving out of the house. Consequently, I have to suggest that "Snakes on a Plane" might not be the best date movie currently available at your local cinema.

The premise of "SoaP" (great acronym) is elegantly simple. Sean Jones (Nathan Phillips) witnesses the murder of an L.A. district attorney who is vacationing in Hawai'i. Being flown to Los Angeles to testify against the killer, Jones is in the care of FBI Agent Nelville Flynn (Samuel L. Jackson). However, the killer has arranged for what appears to be at least one of every venomous snake on the face of the planet to be let loose during the flight, thereby realizing the title of the film. Also include in the cast are: Julianna Margulies as Claire Miller, the flight attendant who is on her final flight; Flex Alexander as Three Gi's, the rap star aboard the plane; Kenan Thompson as Troy, one of the rapper's two hefty bodyguards; and Rachel Blanchard as Mercedes, who appears to be a Paris Hilton wannabe. Basically everybody on the film is a designed character (e.g., the irate First Class passenger, the newlyweds, the kick boxer, etc.), and when we meet them we are not really trying to learn anything about them, but just calculate their chances of being alive by the end credits (which you should stick around and watch for the music video). Fortunately there are almost as many heroes as there are victims on this particular doomed flight.

Basically, this 2006 film delivers exactly what the title promises. Despite the famous line paraphrased and censored above, Jackson's character does not curse much in this film, which is a shame because nobody curses like Samuel L. Jackson (and that includes the character of Al Swearagen on "Deadwood," and that fellow is no slouch when it comes to the art of the profane tirade). What is important is that they come up with a way for the snakes to start attacking everybody on the plane at once, although we have to build up to that with an initial series of attacks before the snakes hit the fan. I was not happy that they kept making the same mistake several times (leaving one person alone in the cockpit flying the plane), and the green "snake-o-vision" was nothing special, but otherwise I was able to put both logic and reasoning on the back burner for this one. Plus, my wife fled the theater and you just have to round up for any movie that makes that happen.

Want Snakes on a Plane (2009) Discount?

When this movie began production it went by the working title "Snakes on a Plane" with (im sure) every intention on changing that name to something a little less obvious. When the name leaked to the critics and film geeks alike the film took off in a way that is comparable to Star Wars Episode 1. Except with SOAP you don't have a big name director, a blockbuster history or, an endless budget. Just the title, and Samuel L. Jackson. Web sites have been dedicated to the film, influencing and even changing some content of the film. There was no pre-screening for the film to leak any information about it, because lets face it, it's Snakes on a Plane, you know what your going to get. The creaters are nothing if not straightforward.

SOAP itself is about a ruthless criminal lord named Eddie Kim who is due to appear in court on murder charges that could put him away for life. Sean Jones is the witness for the prosecution that experienced Kims' violent ways first hand when he murdered "Mr Prosecuter" as Kim so put it, in Hawaii. Now Sean is set to testify in LA under the protection of one Mr. Nelville Flynn (Jackson) escorting him the entire way.

The movie focuses on the passengers entering the plane giving you the opportunity to size up the victims, pick favorites, and decide who you think best deserves a malicious venom strike to their genitals, which I assure you does happen, a few times. As the movie gets rolling even further you get more cought up so that every peice of narrative becomes this gutbusting punch line to a joke that I don't think any of us fully understand. The point is that its Snakes on a Plane, its already a success, box office numbers or not. This is what Attack of the Killer Tomatos wished it could be. It's a movie that will live and die by its title. It embraces it like a war flag on its way to pilage Hollywood. Like it or not, you know what your in for. Good Snakes, Good Hero, Good Entertainment.

Doghouse (2009)

DoghouseThe zombie resurgence continues (really now, the undead are everywhere!) in the delightfully silly British import "Doghouse." The horror/comedy zombie mine has been drilled so many times lately, I was afraid this film might be dead on arrival. But with a playful wink at sexual politics, "Doghouse" adds a new man versus woman angle that keeps things lively. Director Jake West manages to infuse the film with plenty of appropriately gruesome moments, gross visuals, hilarious sight gags, and then tops it off with a biting social satire on sexism. With no pretensions, "Doghouse" qualifies as a rollicking good time and I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I had.

The film starts out as a bit of male wish fulfillment. To support a friend going through a divorce, a group of guys decides to take a "boys only" vacation. The joke is that they decide to go to a remote town where women reportedly outnumber men four to one. Even though the logic of this escapade is a bit sketchy, the guys are eager to take a break from their everyday lives (it helps that all their introductions present cloying spouses and unpleasant situations). So maybe this vision of a town with randy and willing ladies seems perfectly reasonable. Traveling via bus (in scenes eerily reminiscent of "Severance"--check it out as well), the guys eventually discover things all but deserted--until they start finding body parts and bloody remnants. But that's not all--the women have been turned into ravenous zombies!

A military/government experiment has gone awry and the resultant virus affects only the fairer sex. The zombies are hysterically attired in various garish outfits--sexy bride and maniacal beautician are my favorites, at least until an unlikely encounter occurs with one of our heroes (Danny Dyer) and a very large negligee-wearing seductress. Once the guys hit town, "Doghouse" becomes a frantic and non-stop adventure. Dyer (who co-incidentally was also in "Severance," about the ultimate corporate retreat) is spot-on as the biggest dog in the pack, but all the guys fill their roles nicely.

"Doghouse" is first and foremost a comedy. While the attacks and splatter scenes are well choreographed, there will be more laughs accompanying the slapstick antics than jolts from pure fright. "Doghouse" is very successful at achieving its modest goals. Entertaining and strangely endearing, you might find yourself liking the film and its heroes more than you might want to admit. So, I'll go ahead and make my confession--I loved "Doghouse!" KGHarris, 10/10.

I saw that this had one of the actors from Kidulthood so I looked at the preview. The preview cracked me up. The movie itself walks a line between thriller and comedy and I think they did a great job. It's not an all-out comedy like Shawn of the Dead, but it has some very funny parts. It is definitely worth a watch.

This movie is a zomedy from the U.K. and it looks great on blu ray for sure. It features a group of average brit blokes who take their divorced friend on a vacation tour trip and end up in a village filled with female women infected with a virus that makes them zombie like. But they are not zombies really , instead mutated would be a better word for them. The music in this movie is really cool rock and that helps the feel of the movie. The cast itself are all veterans of british tv and film and NOT first timers, in fact this is way above some amuteur film made by beginners. So you get a low budget flick done by seasoned professionals all the way here. The negative reviews on amazon about acting are not accurate at all I believe, the sets looked fine to me as well. It was a small village set and that's that. The story is not pollitically correct at all and of course we get silliness some. The whole idea that the brit government would test a virus on a village in their own country is lame but who else would this movie work? well it could have been a meteor and that would have been less distasteful but it's now become part of filmland to always blame governments for everything so this is what you get. However it doesn't matter as this is a zomedy anyways. I thought the movie moved fast and was funny and even offensive which is what it aimed to be anyways. However the idea of men finding themselves in this horrible situation seems far fetched.

Instead regardless if you knew these cannibal women you'd be filled with horror and not take this lightly. But this does have the actors act that way to a degree which lets us all know that this is a comedy to a degree. Still it's a fast moving flick and if you don't take it seriously you'll have fun watching it. The blu ray has deleted scenes and extras as well. the blu ray is all region but the extras are not though. you'd need a all region blu ray to watch the extras but the feature film is fine on your american blu ray player. The uk has lots of horror blus that aren't making it out over here and most of them are all region so it's a good idea to grab them if you want a hd version of a movie like this.

I wont bore you with too much back story cause it's all been done here, lets just say male friends on a male weekend and they so go to the wrong town. This movie was just funny, and I actually liked the guys, I was sad to see bad things happen to some of them. The crazy psycho women are just over the top. But it was one thing after another with these poor guys so it's certainly not boring on any level. And it will make the gore lovers happy as well. But this movie will make you laugh if you have any kind of sense of humor.

Review originally posted on my website, From the Mind of Tatlock

Here I was saying there wasn't many funny zombie movies out there in my Aaah! Zombies!! movie review and then a certain streaming service recommends I check out Doghouse. Boy, am I glad I did, cause I loved it! It was funny, gory and has a fun 80's horror vibe throughout. If that piqued your interest, read on for more...

Short nitty-gritty plot description from IMDb is as follows: A group of men head to a remote village to help one of their friends get over his divorce; when they get there, though, they discover that all the women have been infected with a virus that makes them man-hating cannibals.

Okay, I said in my intro that Doghouse is a funny zombie movie, but I'm kinda stretching the truth a little, as the movie's creatures aren't really zombies per say and are more just weird infected... well, creatures. They will munch down on flesh and tear you apart, but they are so weird looking and go through different phases, that I wouldn't really classify them as a straight zombie. So, with that out of the way, what is the movie about.

Doghouse follows a group of friends, Niel, Mikey, Graham, Matt and Patrick, as they console a fellow friend, Vince, who is going through a rough divorce. The plan is to go on a road trip to the small town of Moodley, where the women outnumber the men and get drunk, get laid and just forget their troubles. They arrive in Moodley and find out that Mikey, the one who planned the trip and who was originally from this town, was fibbing a little on the size and excitement of the place. Thankfully for us and not so much for our friends, the town has been infected with a virus and all the women are ravenous creatures, who will stop at nothing to tear you apart!

Doghouse has a lot of positives in my useless opinion. It was pretty damn funny, the guys are pretty dumb, but I enjoyed them all and didn't find any of the actor's annoying. Well, the character of Neil, was a little grating at first, but he grew on me. The other big positive is the creature effects. The women monsters are all unique and memorable. They brandish weapons and snarl, vomit and just spew grossness. It's awesome! The movie also has some lovely gore and doesn't shy away from showing the guts.

Now, things aren't all sunshine and lollypops unfortunately. The movie misses it's mark a few times with the story. The movie hints at something terrible in the woods and the guy's shouldn't go in them. So, I figured they would at least once walk into them and we would get a giant hoard of creature women chasing them, but sadly, the movie never moves away from this small town. Yes, the town does vary enough that you are never bored of the surroundings, but I still would've liked to wander in those woods and see the horror. Finally, the movie doesn't really explain much and leaves a lot of plot threads just hanging. Before you know it, the movie's credits are rolling and your left with several questions unanswered.

All negatives aside, Doghouse is a riot, filled with gore, humor and buxom zombie/creature ladies. This is one doghouse I wouldn't mind being in. It doesn't slow down and always left me entertained. I'm a little disappointed in a few questions left open, but that doesn't stop me from highly recommending any horror fan to check it out.

Rating: 4/5 (-1 for unanswered questions and leaving the woods out of it. +4 for gore, humor, a fun story and some gnarly ladies.)

Detention (2012)

DetentionThere's a lot packed into the run-time of this movie, in fact, so much it probably bears watching more than once to catch everything as it zips by. The basic storyline seems to be that this supposed movie character, Cinderhella, is killing teens, but there's a lot more to the film than just that. Screwed-up teenage relationships, a jealous ex-boyfriend jock who was mutated by a meteorite as a child, a high-school mascot (a stuffed grizzly bear) that has been modified into a time machine, time travel back to 1992, etc. The humor is often gross but a lot of it is deadpan, which makes it even better, in my opinion. This is refreshingly goofy & bizarre, and is a good slam-dunk of overpriveleged teens & high school clique antics, but it's also a lot more than that. I enjoyed the first "Scream" (but not necessarily its sequels) but this is not quite so obvious as that film. Well worth seeing, not perfect but pretty damn close. May be a future cult classic. 4 out of 5.

This is a fast paced "Student Bodies" meets "Scott Pilgrim" type of movie. The humor comes at you quick and you must pay attention. It is a teen slasher spoof film, but also tosses in a few aspects of other films. There are clues as to what is going on, but don't worry about trying to catch them and figure out the film, just enjoy the scenes.

Some lines that come too mind:

"Pregnant teens are never funny." A clear slap at "Juno."

"I only eat baby animals."

"Pain don't hurt."

"Where did you learn to make a snuff porno? Lady Gaga?"

"Gnawing through boyfriends like an unfed piranha."

"This human conversation thing isn't working. Let's do texting."

The production incorporates numerous obscure 1980's references, some of which are explained. The film is done in a modern quirky "Scott Pilgrim..." style, but knowledge of 1980s movies is helpful in order to enjoy the feature.

There is a slasher at school. Meanwhile Ione (Spencer Locke), the cute air headed blond likes under achiever cool guy Clapton Davis (Josh Hutcherson). She has given up her jock boyfriend Billy Nolan (Parker Bagley)for him. He wants to beat up Clapton over her, and he is willing to fight for her because she is deep and likes Sting. Meanwhile Riley Jones (Shanley Caswell) has a crush on Clapton and becomes a third wheel.

PARENTAL GUIDE: F-bombs, brief sex and brief nudity.

Ever since Mel Brooks first began making fun of movie genres it seems that form of comedy has taken hold. What started out hilarious though ended up becoming stale and some truly bad examples were made (think of the movies made by the group behind EPIC MOVIE). Rare gems came out like SCARY MOVIE that then slacked off as well. So when a parody of a genre comes out that offers something original and whacky, I'm ready to give it a watch. With DETENTION I'm glad I did.

The movie begins with a form that hasn't been used before that works well here. The characters now and then talk to the fourth wall, the audience, and guide them through things happening in the film. It opens with the most popular girl in school (and of course the bitchiest) telling us all about her high school and the kids there while she gets ready for her day. This is one of those girls seen on SWEET 16 who complains about not getting the correct car on her birthday. She mentions the release of a new horror film with a killer known as Cinderhella who then promptly shows up and dispatches of our narrator setting the stage for the killer on the lose.

The kids at school of course do nothing but talk about her death as we introduce them here. Riley is the odd girl out, the different girl who talks about being a vegetarian and supports other groups yet isn't on the popular list of school kids. Her best friend Taylor is though. Taylor's boyfriend (the guy Riley wanted to ask out) Clapton Davis is a neer do well teen complete with skateboard and loved by all...except the school jock who wants to do nothing more than pound Clapton into the ground.

As the film progresses we get glimpses of the killer here and there, several in failed attempts on the lives of our main characters. We also get tons of laughter inspiring moments that are too many to count and too fast to catalog. Yes, this film moves at a frighteningly fast pace but not so much that it can't be enjoyed. And the film doesn't leave itself in the horror genre alone, skipping along occasionally into sci fi alien invasion or time travel storylines that tie into the main one as well.

When the group finally makes it to their actual detention during the high school prom, things happen that are completely off the wall and absurd. And yet it totally works. A killer in the room with them and they never see the murder happen? A student who's been in detention for decades and yet never ages? The reveal of how it all began years ago? Yep, it works here.

There really isn't a true category to place this film in. It's more original than most and offers so much at that rapid pace that you might find yourself clutching the remote so you can pause to finish laughing while the next joke or set up is being offered. I wasn't sure what to expect from this film but was pleasantly surprised as it played out. I was left wanting more and finding myself hoping that those behind it are given a bigger budget and the chance to make more movies. Anything they can come up with will far outrank the EPIC MOVIE group who still lay claim to what little they did on SCARY MOVIE.

I watched this picture because of the critic Steve Shaviro, who said that it (and The Cabin in the Woods) represented between them the "future of horror"--no wait, maybe the "future of cinema," some grand claim, exactly the kind I have a hankering for, and I enjoyed Cabin in the Woods a helluva lot, so I went in thinking, maybe this will be one of those sorts of movies the kind I like, that rip through genre like so many jungle fronds in a machete movie. And so it was, on a rather different scale than Joss Whedon. Whedon is a humanist, whereas I get the picture that Joseph Kahn, who directed this highly entertaining horror comedy, is no such thing, despite the sentimental flourishes with which his movie concludes (sappy voice over that says, basically, "but underneath it all we're just people, and we all need love.")

Kahn made two epic videos with the pop singer slash actress Kylie Minogue. In one, the charity single by "Helping Haiti," he blended shocking real-life footage of hurricane devastation in Haiti, with hideous footage or pop stars from Rod Stewart to Westlife and beyond, all lip synching the old R.E.M. classic "Everybody Hurts." For Kylie's 11th solo album, APHRODITE, Kahn turned the first single, "All the Lovers" into a giant orgy of models, male and female, stripping to pristine white underwear in the middle of downtown LA in front of the Gehry Disney Concert Hall, to worship a giant goddess Kylie. Made in the immediate aftermath of DETENTION, you can see Kahn trying to work out ideas he didn't manage to articulate during its filming. Josh Hutcherson, the executive producer of the film, plays the hero part, but he's sort of a sad sack, and he's named after a pair of heritage rock artists (in joke?) In general the acting's not great in DETENTION, but who cares? In CABIN IN THE WOODS, the whole movie slides by on the Whedonesque charm of the actors and the witty dialogue, and here the dialogue and the acting is just one jab after another, like an attack of fire ants. If like me you thought of abandoning Detention before the second murder, my advice is, keep up with it if you can, because you will be amply rewarded throughout. The characters start making sense, they become sort of lovable, even the awful ones and though I never did figure out why the boy had to wear a TV on his wrist growing up, I enjoyed myself immensely and, if this is the future of cinema, it's in safe hands.

Want Detention (2012) Discount?

You might want to stoke up on caffeine and prop your eyelids open before watching this because it moves at a hundred miles an hour with little let-up.

Here's the scoop. Someone dressed up as "Cinderhella" from a horror movie franchise is killing kids from Grizzly Lake High School. Meanwhile some smaller dramas with some of the students play out. Riley Jones and Clapton Davis have been good friends since forever. She's a bit peeved because he wants to go to the prom with Ione who is vapid beyond the meaning of the word. Meanwhile, Billy Nolan, who is part fly, (yes, you read that right) wants to beat up Clapton because he also wants to go to the prom with Ione. Oh, and there is a time machine inside the stuffed bear in the school hall.

This is a fast, wild ride. The dialogue is replete with now and wow padder. There are a lot of clever pop culture references from both 'now' and the 90s and they come at you relentlessly. The story isn't quite as involved as it might seem at first glance because the pace throws you off. Once you settle into that the viewing gets a bit easier. There are, though, a couple of bizarre zingers (one late in the third act) that are so far out of left field, you might just be thinking WTF!?

The principle actors, Josh Hutcherson, Shanley Caswell, Spencer Locke, et al, do a decent job. The production values are as good as they need to be to get this done. What's really happening here is the script. Writer/director Joseph Kahn's previous work has been entirely in music videos which is probably why he felt the need to cram so much into each moving minute. But, as I said earlier, you really need to pay attention. A 'time slip' element enters the plot in the third act and, if you blink, you'll be lost.

I liked this a lot. I found it very entertaining and better than it had to be given the content. If being cinematically slapped around for 93 minutes is your poison, this should be right up your alley.

The Breakfast Club (Universal's 100th Anniversary) (1985)

The Breakfast ClubJust when you couldn't bare being in school during the week, imagine having to be forced to spend a Saturday there. That's what happens to five high school students who are forced to spend a Saturday detention together. None of them have anything in common and none of them are friends. Each is an opposite from the other. The group consists of a brain, a prom queen, a jock, a basket case and a trouble-maker. A unique and unexpected bond is formed by the five teens as the day goes on, with all sorts of different states of emotion going on for each of them. No matter happens on Monday, all five of them will always that one Saturday together; therefore, forever labeling them "The Breakfast Club."

Not only is this a classic film, it's one of my personal favorites. I loved it when I was little and I love it now as I am in my twenties. It's so refreshing to have a brutally honest film that plays on all of your emotions as this movie does. And even though this was shot in the eighties, people can still relate to it now in 2000. This is why it is so effective and powerful.

The movie is so memorable that you will most likely repeat every single line during each viewing. The actors do a terrific job of portraying their roles flawlessly. The script is funny and touching at the same time. Everything that is shown in the movie is crucial and significant; being that there isn't a single minute in the movie that goes wasted.

This new DVD edition, while it may not be the most spectacular of DVDs, is a lot better than the previous version. They did an excellent job of producing a successful remastered version of the movie that looks and sounds excellent. You can even watch it in DTS; that is, if your system carries it. I'm afraid there's not much to offer in the special features department. It really is a shame, being that this is such a classic movie. Still, the way the film looks and sounds is worth the price alone.

"The Breakfast Club" is a terrific movie that still has the same effect on us as it did years and years ago. It's funny, tragic, touching and honest. If you haven't seen this movie yet, please, make sure that the next time you are at a video store that you pick this up and check it out. You have no idea what you're missing if you don't. Still a favorite after so many years, this film surpasses so many movies that we see today. An excellent achievement on all fronts.

There are plenty of reviews here about the movie, so there is no sense in writing another.

This review is about the DVD. I will tell you up front that this DVD looks like a direct copy off VHS. I have seen the VHS version about 2 times this year and when the title song comes on, the audio fades in and out. Not bad, but you can definitely see some age in it. The DVD is EXACTLY the same. The sound is of no higher quality.

There is no widescreen, just a full screen with the same picture quality as VHS. It's not horrible, but if you are the type of person who buys DVDs for the superior picture quality, you are definitely going to be unhappy with this.

The movie itself is EXCELLENT, I love it, but the DVD transfer from VHS isn't the best.

As for bonus features, you get bios for all of the actors. The trouble is, the information included is the same as you can find on the internet movie database (imdb) as well as fan sites. If you have read a fair amount on any of the actors and know their biography fairly well, this DVD offers nothing new.

There are also some brief production notes about where and how this movie was done, and some quotes from the cast and crew.

Again, if you have done any research online and gone to any fan sites or even a site dedicated to John Hughes, you will find nothing new here. No interviews, a little behind the scenes, some background detail, but in the big picture, not much else.

Just a forewarning.

I bought the DVD because unlike VHS tapes, a DVD CD doesn't wear out. But if you watch the VHS version, then the DVD, the quality is the same. DVD is not any better.

So overall, EXCELLENT movie, but not a great transfer. Still, if you are a fan, definitely add it to your collection, but if you buy DVDs for the extras, you will be very disappointed with this.

If you graduated from high school in the 1980s and haven't seen this film, you must have been locked in a cave.

John Hughes delivers the definitive nostalgic teen movie of the Generation X crowd. The cast made up the '80s "brat pack" with Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall. It's hard to believe while seeing this film that Ringwald and Hall were the only real high school aged performers... the others were in their mid to late 20s during filming.

While modern teens may not find this as "sophisticated" as over-sexed comedies like "American Pie," anyone can appreciate true feelings, teen angst, self doubt and relationships with parents portrayed in this film.

A group of kids sitting for 8 hours in detention on a Saturday none of them will ever forget. While there is foul language, it's about the same speed as what you can hear on "NYPD Blue" on TV. There is no nudity or sex, just raw, in your face teen angst.

You see this group of "losers," warts and all, and become friends with all of them before the film is over. The DVD doesn't offer anything other than cast bios and subtitles... which is a disappointment. It would have been great to have had some interviews with the cast and behind the scenes footage. Nonetheless, DVD is much better than tape and definitely worth the extra $ for a non volitile format.

This movie is a classic and it will stand the test of time. This is the second "teen coming of age" installment from John Hues, and round 2 for Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall. The first installment, Sixteen Candles, was more of a sexual coming of age movie whereas The Breakfast Club is more of a coming of age for one's character and social awareness. Where they are "teetering" with; staying with their social allegiances to their perspective pack, or do they listen to that inner voice...the voice of reason, maturity and human compassion that's not bound to any "click". I like the choice of actors; I think they all fit like pieces in a puzzle and make their characters totally believable. I am in the same age range as almost the entire cast and I was a senior in High school when this film came out. Allot of reviews seem to put this film within the Junior High crowd but I feel it's much more mature than that. The very message that it's trying to get across isn't understood in real life until we get close to 18 or so. The story is simple; 5 kids have to come into school on a Saturday for detention. At first they try to segregate themselves according to their school social standings. Inevitably they find out that they are more alike than they ever thought. The movie, in my eyes, is broken into 3 parts; the first part is pure character development. This is where you (the viewer) gets to know each person they way they are supposed to be seen with their everyday face. At first, they act the way they think they should act, and stand up for what they always had, with out question or defiance. They stay true to their cause never steering away for a second. The second part of the film is where the movie itself develops. These 5 separate entities realize that they are variations of the same person. They have the same desires and anguishes. Their pressures and stresses are the same even though it's generated from very different sources.

The jock (Emilio Estevez) has the pressure to be on top of his sport (wrestling). In return for this he gets attention from his dad, coaches and keeps his standing within his social group. This is his priority in life and he doesn't stray.

The Princess (Molly Ringwald) has to conform and obey the rules of her social group in order to be accepted and keep her standing within the group. She keeps her eyes closed; mouth shut and goes along for the ride.

The Metal Head/criminal (Judd Nelson) is an angry guy! He wears the physical and mental scars of growing up in an abusive house. He hates most people, like the ones Emilio and Molly play, because in his eyes, they have had a free ticket and earned nothing...things are handed to them because of their social and/or economical standings. On the other hand, he feels that he's on a whole other plain because his eyes have been beaten open and he was forced to grow up a little faster than he wanted too or was ready too. I feel that Judd Nelson's character is the most crucial to the movie. He is the key to this whole new self-awareness for everyone, including himself.

The nerd (Anthony Michael Hall) is the quintessential geek. His every woken moment is spent learning. He hides behind his grades and in fact, he wants to be more accepted by the "cooler" groups. He also is a little "cocky" about his better grades and academically superiority to the other people in the room.

The weirdo (Ally Sheedy) is a loner and an outcast. She doesn't have friends that we (the viewers) know of. Because her parents ignore her, She feels ugly and without a place in the world. She is starving for positive attention. I think her character was needed in this movie to balance off the cast. It would have left out a very critical part of teen angst!

Richard Vernon (Paul Gleason) is the "Villain" of the movie. To the kids, he represents the out of touch older generation and the mean spirited, high testosterone adult. For Richard Vernon, these kids are the source of his anger and agony. He has lost touch with the younger generation for 1 reason, he got older...and the older you get, the harder it is to relate to youth. Youth recycles right before your eyes, but you keep getting older. His character is the key that releases these kids. He helps them to strip away the blindfolds and to take a fresh look at every thing and everyone (including themselves).

This leads to the 3rd and final part of the movie. Where they cleanse themselves of all the pentad up anger and prejudices, where they experience a sort of rebirth. When the kids realize that they all have the same goal, they were just taking different roads to reach it. I also like the fact that Anthony Michael Hall's character, the nerd, has the last word and Judd Nelson's character, the criminal, gets the last scene. I think it was poignant that the 2 groups that are pushed the furthest down the social ladder get to close out the movie and punctuate the message that is being given' to a person that represents the source of their anguish. I highly recommend The Breakfast Club and it should go down as one of the all time great teenage movie!

This IS one of the greatest movies of all time, enough said about that!

HOWEVER The DVD is horrible. The transfer is horrible and the sound is horrible. You'd think for such a great movie the DVD would be loaded with extras not this one, BARE BONES DUDE!

STILL A GREAT MOVIE, just a lazy effort on DVD.

All's Faire in Love (2009)

All's Faire in LoveFilms like "Elizabeth" (with Cate Blanchett) and "The Other Boleyn Girl" have led to the genre of "Costume Drama". I'm just wondering if the same can be applied to a comedy. This movie was a light, romantic comedy. And I like these types of movies well enough. Having been to a number of "Renaissance Festivals" in a variety of states, I've seen some pretty spectacular costumes and some pathetic ones as well. This movie offers a glimpse into some of the better outfits a "rennie" could ever wear. Kudos to the Renaissance Costume Designer, Donna Buckley, for her work here. It's worth a look just to check them out! And jousting too!

So I found out about this movie last year, during a class i was working in. I found out it had been shot at my school, Mott Community College, back in 2009. After much research on release dates i found it on amazon to rent last month. So i did, and found it quite funny. I didn't go in expecting anything, but i do enjoy most work by christina ricci, and matthew lillard. It was neat seeming a portion of my school in there, along with the Michigan ren. fest as most of the staging of the movie. But if you are looking for a few good laughs, this would be a good movie to see. The first 15 mins are kinda rough but if you get past that then you should be good.

Cute love/hate/love movie for all renaissance festival buffs. Highly recommend this comedy with a few twists. Plus, anything with Ann Margaret is bound to be good, right?

The premise is interesting; however, the execution leaves much to be desired. A jock in danger of failing is sentenced by his professor to work at a Renaissance Faire for three weeks in the summer. He comes into this role possessing an initial contempt and general disregard for the Faire and all involved. He does develop a bit more in personality and character as the film progresses; however, this story left me shaking my head many times. I love Renaissance Faires; however, I do not love this movie. If you do not have to pay to watch it, perhaps; however, it's mediocre at best and lame to offensive at worst.

A light hearted escape to the realm of the renaissance faire where quirky characters live out their fantasies. Especially enjoyed Chris Wylde's over the top performance as "Rank" and Louise Griffiths' subdued performance as Christina Ricci's friend "Jo".
