Strippers vs. Werewolves (2012)

Strippers vs. WerewolvesThis movie has some familiar faces, Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger in Nightmare On Elm Street, the OG ones, not the new one) Lysette Anthony (Dracula Dead and Loving It) and Lucy Pinder (pretty much in any British magazine ever, she's super hot). This movie has strippers (so there is female nudity, yay) and werewolves. While it takes a while to build up to the climax in the third act which is a bit of a letdown, this movie is sometimes goofy albeit dumb. Since it doesn't take itself too serious, I think this movie helps add to the new sub-genre of Strippers vs. (insert supernatural monster here) none of which should be put under too much scrutiny as they are campy and crappy on purpose. It does look sharp on Blu-Ray which is a plus.

After liking and enjoying both Zombie Strippers and Zombies vs. Strippers, I expected the same kind of entertainment value from Strippers vs. Werewolves. Boy, was I disappointed. The only cool thing about Strippers vs. Werewolves is its title. The nudity is minimal, the werewolf makeup is horrible, and the action is almost non-existant. Even the cameo from Robert Englund is dull. There are much better movies about strippers and much better movies about werewolves than this, so see those instead.

Okay, I know what you're thinking. Strippers? Werewolves? Really? You must be crazy! Yes, as a matter of fact, I am kind of crazy--crazy in love! For reals, folks. This is no laughing matter. Actually, that's not true because there's quite a bit of elicited laughter when you watch a bunch of scantily clad pole dancers blow away a pack of hairy man-beasts. But in all seriousness, this movie was one of those special rarities that caught me by surprise with how legitimately entertaining it was. Remember that time I rated a book on the awesomely bad scale? Yeah, Strippers vs Werewolves is kinda like that. It's one of those rare gems that's so terrible; it becomes, in fact, awesome. Look, don't try to fight it. It's science, people.

Let me just preface the rest of this review by noting that over Thanksgiving, I was super ill. Thusly, I spent the bulk of my holiday bed-ridden and in a Nyquil/Benadryl induced haze, instantly rendering Neflix my new BFF. And being in such a drugged stupor, things like Strippers vs Werewolves starts to sound like a really good idea. And much to my Kleenex-loving delight, it was! Just know that going in, it's better to eliminate any expectations and take the movie at face value because, c'mon, the plot revolves around strippers and werewolves. Hey! They're English strippers! Naturally they're a step above their American counterparts because anyone with an English accent is, by default, classier. Anyway, the plot is as the title describes--strippers versus werewolves. More specifically, a stripper accidentally murders a werewolf so his pack decides to deliver swift justice upon them all. Only they didn't gamble on the fact that one of the stripper's boyfriends is a Van Helsing of sorts and he equips our busty ladies with some serious firepower to fight back. And you better believe they fight back in the most epic and half-naked of ways.

It quickly becomes clear that director, Jonathan Glendening, knew exactly what he was doing. This movie is purposefully over-the-top, ridiculous and yet still frequently funny. The cheese factor is high but that's what endears it to my heart even more. I especially appreciated the references to the 80's classic, The Monster Squad, which was very unexpected. And for those of you with a keen eye, you'll notice an homage to other cult horror movies in there as well, which is totally cool. But, by far, the best thing about it was the cameos. I am a HUGE movie freak so when I see appearances by Robert Englund (aka Freddy Kreuger), Alan Ford (Snatch) and Lysette Anthony (Dracula: Dead and Loving It), I get really excited. Like, irrationally so. And while some may fault Glendening for his choice of old school make-up effects, this is where I give him applause. Traditional monster make-up is a dying art, one that I can still appreciate more than the overly-used, cartoonish CGI we usually see in B-list horror. Of course, the movie isn't without fault either. I think Glendening was trying too hard at times for that `artsy' sort of feeling with all the jump cuts and slow-motion, but it is what it is. Overall, it surprisingly hit the mark and exceeded my low-brow expectations. And when you're sick, you can't ask for much more than that!

Food for Thought: Strippers vs Werewolves is definitely not going to win the Oscar, like ever, but it certainly maintains merit in terms of entertainment value. A comedy masked as horror, it's somewhat crass, campy and a bit fun! This movie is a crowd pleaser for those of you who can get down with movies that don't take themselves too seriously. If anything, it's fun to watch for the cameos, alone. FYI: being completely doped up on Nyquil doesn't hurt either!

About 45 minutes in I was starting to almost want to fall asleep & I only started watching it at 5:00. That's not good at all. Once Robert Englund showed up the movie got better. It seems like they only had maybe ½ an hours worth of decent material & stretched that out to 90 minutes. I actually did like the ending. The Werewolves were plain disappointing looking. Think Hugh Jackman as Wolverine only a little messier with fangs. I say it's a rental at best. Strippers vs. Zombies was no prize movie but it has this beat.

Someone tried really hard to make this movie. They put serious effort into the acting, the script, the camera work. But in the end, it doesn't really work. I'm afraid to label this movie a failure though. Someone worked hard at this. I worry that if I label this movie as a failure that I'll have just given up. Maybe there is something awesome here and I missed it.

In the meantime, don't spend a lot of money on it. Don't expect to laugh a lot. I'm mostly just confused.

Vamp (Midnight Madness) (1986)

VampI purchased this Blue Ray edition hoping it has a better transfer. Not at all. The movie lacks any special features and the transfer is VERY BAD. Even a video cassette would look better as the images are grainy and colors fade. I don't know why movie studios care to release such a BAD product hoping to take advantage of fans who wanted a better looking product. You don't need it, better buy it on DVD and there will be NO difference among both versions.

So if you're not going to invest any time into a release, why even bother? The DVD that was previously released a few years ago actually had a decent amount of special features. This release? Not ONE. NOTHING. They couldn't even put those on this release? The only thing that the BluRay did better is spell Dedee Pfeiffer's name correctly on the front cover.

If you want just the movie, this would be fine for you. If you want a decent release with some really cool special features, try to track down the original DVD release, or if you already have it, don't bother "upgrading"...

The disc is absolute bare bones. No special features whatsoever.

If you enjoy this movie and would like to upgrade to blu, then import the Arrow disc from the UK.

Image's Midnight Madness Series has been a horrible experience for me so far. First the botched transfer for Hellraiser 2 and now a disc that's not worth keeping (I'm sending this back!) No more pre-orders from me for Image's discs. They are becoming the new Echo Bridge.

Yes, the Blu-Ray picture is better than the DVD version. The movie is still as good it was. Not much credulity is needed until the end.

No, the only extra is one trailer. The DVD has an alternate soundtrack with the director and actors, a short movie, bloopers, trailers, etc.

Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail (2009)

Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to JailMADEA GOES TO JAIL

I am a Tyler Perry fan and was completely excited when I found out that this film was going to be his next, based on the great play I knew it would be a great film. So it came to theaters and like I thought it was a hit so I knew the DVD would be excellent. Finally when it came out it was bought for my girl for her birthday and we all had a great time watching it. Perry is excellent at delivering heartfelt films with a bit of comedy thrown into the mix. Like before he succeeds here once again and delivers another marvelous film. Perry once again provides a well crafted drama/comedy that will have you hooked for sure.

There are two different stories going on in this film like most Perry films, this like the others blends both stories very well and even brings them together. One follows Madea and her legal battles as she escapes prisons grasp only to fall prey to it later. This is the comedic side of the film as you know and really makes this movie funny. Then we have Joshua Hardaway an Assistant District Attorney who just landed a case that puts him back in touch with a former childhood friend who he elects to help. Since he didn't help at one time when she really needed it in their college days he feels the need now. Of course this does not sit well with his fiancé who has a bit of a secret her self. Of course this is the more dramatic side of things and it is classic Tyler Perry, excellent story with these ones.

Perry has always been an excellent writer and this shows exactly why he keeps churning out hit after hit. The script is full of great believable characters and full of emotion which only brings you into it. Of course his direction is great and keeps the movie moving along at a nice pace. Perry himself is great in three different roles and yes they are the same three he plays in all the Madea movies. Of course the lead character Madea is excellent and one of the most fun characters in film history and Perry as usual is brilliant in the role. Then there is Madea's brother Joe is funny as always especially during the party scene. And then there is Perry with out a get playing Brian who is the family's lawyer, and a member himself.

Derek Luke is great as Joshua and brings a real feel of emotion to the character and is very believable in the role. Keshia Knight Pulliam is absolutely brilliant as lost cause Candace who feels betrayed by Joshua over an incident [a really bad one] in college that led her to a life on the streets and prostitution. She may very well steal the show as far as the dramatic performances. Ion Overman is great as Joshua's girl who does not understand his feelings about his former childhood friend. David and Tamela Mann as always are great as the Browns and bring a lot to the comedic side of this film. Every one in this film did a great job and really bring it on this film. But if there is any one who is also up for show stealer it is Sofía Vergara as T.T. who Perry fans may recognize from the "Meet The Browns" film. Her character is the craziest/funniest serial killer of all time, I loved it.

This is one of the better releases thus far and is very much worth your money, this is a great movie. Tyler Perry is a great filmmaker and an even better writer so you should check this out. This is a great film that we all truly liked here at the house so I assure you that you will to. Go out and buy this now or at the very least rent it tonight because you will like it. And for those who are haters just look at the numbers, this is a number 1 hit baby.

The antics of Madea in and out of jail are ALWAYS fun to watch, but the story about Candy and her meeting Madea gave this movie the seriousness it needed to be solid. We're given comedy and something to think about. And Madea does delightfully in jail, whether she's in class or fighting that big blonde. 4.5/5 stars for a entertaining flick.

When you hear that Tyler Perry is debuting a new movie featuring the character of Madea, you become like a thirsty man in the desert who spots an oasis in the distance. You know that if you can just get there, you will be so refreshed with laughter. There is a hilarity that infuses your senses that you don't want to let go when Madea is breakin it down and servin it up as only she can....And the life stories that accompany this trip do give us food for thought...Thank you Tyler Perry!!!

This is a great movie. It is, by far, my favorite Tyler Perry movie to date. It's laugh out loud funny and the actors are fantastic. I've seen all of Tyler Perry's plays and movies. He's exceptionally talented and I love all of his work but I'm a bigger fan of his movies rather than his plays. I believe that's where the division of the reviews will lie. If you're a bigger fan of his plays, you may not agree with my review.

High Road to China

High Road to ChinaI read all 61 reviews to learn as much as I could about this fine film MISSING from my DVD collection. Then I went to my collection and read the back of the "Quigley..." jacket. I then Googled MGM Home Video, and went to their site. I scrolled to the bottom of the first page and clicked on "Help/Contact/FAQ." This took me to a screen with a pull-down menu from which I selected "MGM DVD," entered my email address, and politely asked them to explain themselves, check these 60 plus reviews as evidence that they should release HRTC in DVD.

I suggest you vote yes on this "review" (I did say it was a "fine film")in the hopes that 100% "Yes" votes will get this to the top of the review heap where it can be seen. Then I suggest that you use the instructions above to contact MGM. Finally, I suggest that everyone buy this film from Amazon when it comes out as thanks for their strong support of end-viewer reviews. God Bless.

Tom Selleck stars as a former World War I flying ace, reduced to reliving his past glories in a bottle and giving flying lessons in two broken down Camels. Sparks fly between Selleck and Bess Armstrong when she hires him to help find her father (a young looking Wilford Brimley), last seen in Tibet, before her inheritence is lost to a scheming business partner (Robert Morley at his humorously evil best). Adventure abounds as the pair wend their way between Egypt and Tibet, with sidekick mechanic Jack Weston holding the dilapidated planes together. An outstanding musical score helps this entertaining film immeasureably. This is the kind of movie that Hollywood should be making ... but isn't!

I find myself wearing out the recording I made from an on-the-air source and fervently wish that "High Road to China" would be re-released on video and DVD so that I could buy a decent copy for my library.

UPDATE: This movie has just been announced for Blu-rsy and DVD releases in the United States for April 17, 2012.

After passing over the role of Indiana Jones in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" three years later Tom Selleck appeared on movie screens, cashing in on his Magnum PI popularity as an adventure hero who owes more than just a tip of the hat to the character made famous by the teaming of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.

Of course the movie industry was heavily populated with Indy clones in the early 1980s, but this one in which Selleck plays a pilot helping an heiress locate her missing father was a cut above the above the rest.

I never saw this movie in the theater but on television and subsequently the now defunct VHS format. I think I wore that tape out watching the movie again and again.

With a great script and some truly clever dialogue this movie zips along so fast that you overlook the holes in the plot and just sit back and enjoy a good time. It helps that the supporting cast includes Bess Armstrong (so much better here than she was in Jaws 3), Brian Blessed (always fun to watch) and the perenniel villainous Robert Morley.

Very highly recommended, here's hoping it arrives on DVD soon.

There is a DVD of this movie available in Europe (Region 2) for those of us with region-free players. Copies of this Swedish DVD regularly appear on e-bay.

This is such a fun and feel good film. Not one of the critical "greats" of cinema history but still very much loved. I've lost count how many times I've watched this excellent little movie. There is such a chemistry between the two lead characters that the film is a real joy. I don't think Bess Armstrong played such a likeable funny magnetic character again. (Then again I don't suppose I've seen all her work. Suffice to say , she is wonderful in this). And Tom Selleck demonstrates most clearly how underrated he has been since the days of "Magnum". High Road to China was a bit lost at it's time of release. It was dismissed as a Raiders of the Lost Arc wanna-be. Looking at it again now makes one realise that this was a silly and shallow comparison to make. The only similarity is the time period the film takes place in.

Now to the negative. A DVD release of this film is LONG overdue. Why oh why is it being flopped into the market place with poor mono sound and dodgy unrestored picture that looks like it has been pirated from a VHS tape?

I bought this DVD from another source in Australia and was just so glad to finally have it on DVD in any condition. However I do fear that the uncreative twits who make the decisions as to which movies are to be released on DVD, are simply testing the waters with this unrestored release. If this sells well then maybe High Road to China will eventually be given the treatment it deserves and fully restored and re-released on DVD.

These decision makers aren't fans of movies. They don't understand why or how a film is a success. (just look at the number of sequels that are made, when the first in any series always has to struggle to be approved).

This DVD release is well worth getting in my opinion because the characters and story hold one's attention so well that the dodgy quality of the DVD itself is not too distracting an issue. I just know I'll be sucked in to updating to a fully restored edition one day. Ah well...... that's private enterprise for you.

Love this movie! I remember going to see this with my mother, I loved the movie so much that I took the bus across town, by myself, the next day to see it again. There I was sitting alone, waiting for the movie to start and my father walks in and sits next to me. He's said to me, "Must be a good movie if you are willing to see again..." Indeed it was.

Glad to see it finally on disc... and Blu-Ray at that.

The Scout (1994)

The Scout"The Scout" is one of those movies that leaves you with a warm feeling in your soul after the video has been turned off. It is the story of a man who finds a friend and triumphs over his fears.

Al Percolo is a New York Yankees scout who is experiencing the worst luck of his life. When his boss sends him to Mexico on a grudge trip, Al discovers "the greatest ballplayer that ever lived": Steve Nebraska. Al manages to land a deal with Steve, but is fired while telling his boss about his great find. When the pair returns to the United States, Steve is promptly snapped up with a $55 million bid from the Yankees. Despite all his success, Steve's world is anything but the fairytale it appears to be. Steve has dangerous idiosyncrasies and an abusive past, which are uncovered as time goes on.

Brendan Fraser plays the part of the slightly eccentric, slightly insecure Steve Nebraska with astounding depth. Albert Brooks is perfect as the cheeky, unyielding scout.

However, Dianne Wiest is much too abrasive as Steve's psychologist, Doctor Aaron. She cannot decide who her character is. One minute she is speaking gently to Al, the next she is glaring and snapping at him. I'm afraid this psychologist might need a psychologist herself!

Despite the heavy subject material, the movie has its light moments. There are several comedic occasions provided by Steve's singing, and I must say, these points alone are reason enough to see the movie. Of course, there is also the inevitable victory, which makes everything beforehand worth it.

What is really refreshing about this movie is how clean it is. There are less than ten profanities in the entire film, and they are the only objectionable content.

"The Scout" is simply a fine piece of work, and a wonderful trip to take from everyday life.

It starts out almost as a comedy but it turns dramatic halfway through.Definitely not on my top ten baseball movie lists but it is worth watching at least once.Brandon Frasier does a great job as does Albert brooks. Just seems like they switched writers in the middle of the show.

Buy The Scout (1994) Now

Albert Brooks is a washed-up Yankee$ baseball scout who discovers a phenom (Brendan Fraser) in Mexico a kid who pitches around 105 mph, but is also a Babe Ruth home run machine from either side of the plate. I didn't expect a great movie. Sadly, we didn't even get a decent one. A movie with good acting, likeable characters, and so forth can make up for a bad plot. But...

Acting and characters: I don't particularly care for Albert Brooks' twitching style. Brendan Fraser was an annoying man-child whose tantrums got old. Dianne Wiest was alternately understated and abrasive as the psychotherapist who has to certify that Fraser's character is mentally sound [which of course, he isn't].

And the real meat of my discontent: the plot. First off there isn't a plot so much as a sequence of scenes. There's no payoff: Fraser doesn't experience a breakthrough; the therapy bit is dropped and never resolved. Brooks doesn't evolve either. The final sequence is a schoolboy fantasy of triumph but since there's no resolution, there's no emotional payoff either.

Now for the holes. Brooks' scout has two kids go directly from recruitment (and one is a freshman in college) to major-league pitching in a couple months. Sorry, they would start at A or AA at best, even if the club thinks they are fast-tracked. They'd never throw an untried talent directly on the team. The Yankee$ throw gobs of money at Fraser (George Steinbrenner in a vaguely amusing cameo says "Pay whatever it takes"). Why would they want a kid who pitches as well as hits? In the American League, he can't do both. The DH is expressly not allowed to be the pitcher. Fraser keeps his mullet hairdo; Steinbrenner famously required his players to be clean-shaven with short hair, no exceptions. Fraser also apparently never practices throwing, fielding, or batting, except in one five-minute scene where he throws one pitch. In a parking garage and with Brooks, not with a team.

Then there's Fraser's debut in game one of the World Series at Yankee $tadium. If he wasn't on the roster in the final month, he wouldn't be allowed to be on the team. And how is he batting again, in ninth place? See the DH comment. The final at-bat is a Cardinal who "hit five home runs in the playoffs"? I doubt the manager would have played that hot a hitter in the 9-spot. He isn't a substitution either; the commentator says he's 0-for-2 that night.

Skip this and watch any number of better-crafted baseball movies.

You don't have to love either Brendan Fraser or Baseball to love this movie! I should know, because I hate baseball, but love Brendan Fraser, and I may just be a tad bit prejudiced when it comes to him.

Although the scout is about Baseball, there isn't much involving the sport except for short blips of Albert Brook looking for his 'King Kong', and the ending sequince when Brendan shows us that he truly is the king of the field. Albert Brook is hilarous as the scout who is hunting for other new protege's for the Yankee's, and Brendan is the young man who he happens to find. In mexico that is. Why he's in Mexico, and how he got there is never really explained. That and if the shrink is really his mom, or just a really concerned lady. Yeah, the story has its holes, but the comedy more than makes up for it.

I won't say anymore, more is less, and in this case its better just to see this movie than hear me explain it.

Wedding Crashers (2008)

Wedding CrashersJohn (Owen Wilson) & Jeremy (Vince Vaughn) are best buds. They've known each other for 17 years, work together, and in there spare time crash wedding parties; where they drink like sailors, mingle with unsuspecting relatives, and hit on single and willing brides maids every chance they get. They have a whole science to their crashing ( rules and all), and have become quite adept at the sport.

That all changes when they attend a wedding held by Secretary Cleary (Christopher Walken), whose daughter is getting hitched. During the lavish formal affair, Jeremy makes headway with Cleary's physcopath daughter Gloria ( a hilarious Isla Fisher), while John slowly maneuvers his way into the life of the Secretary's other daughter Claire (Rachel McAdams), who just happens to have a steady bo' of her own.

Eventually, after all the formalities-the two are privately invited back to the Secretary's estate, where they play touch football with the family, have formal dinners, sail out on the boat, & get hit on by the Secretary's sex starved wife (Jane Seymour) & his homosexual son Todd (Keir O'Donnell).

Its all very funny and sillybut the great chemistry by Wilson and Vaughn helps the film move at a steady pace. The supporting roles of McAdams and Fishler are nicely fleshed out as well. While no means a great movie, "The Wedding Crashers" is quite funny at times, and overall enjoyable.

Some people have called this a raunchy, gross-out comedy; although I noticed nothing of the sort. Besides the dialogue and a few breast shots, theres really nothing raunchy or gross-out about "Wedding Crashers" at all. It certainly wouldnt fall into the category of "Something About Mary" or the "American Pie" movies.

Vaughn and Wilson definitley shine throughout and appear to be having the time of their lives here....

Recommended.

There were other funny movies this year and this summer. Both "Batman Begins" and "Serenity" were extremely funny and well written in their own witty manners. "Wedding Crashers," however, was written to be a comedy, and I have to say that it takes funny to an entirely new level. Both Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson have been hilarious before, but the roles they nab in this flick seem to say they were born to star in this movie.

"Wedding Crashers" is that rare movie that combines the comedic excellence of the cast with a very strong, intelligent, hilarious script, and directing that executes the necessary direction flawlessly. Too often lately, I feel as though movie studios have shyed away from "R" rated comedies for many reasons. The "R" rating of course threatens who will actually see a movie, so I understand why studios often create "R" rated movies with caution. What I do not understand, however, is why, until "Wedding Crashers," intelligent, witty, adult-oriented "R" rated comedies seemed to have fallen completely off the radar. For the past 5 years or so, any comedy with an "R" rating (or often a PG-13 rating for that matter) had the rating because of disgusting, gross-out gags that forced laughs because of awkwardness and shock value. "Wedding Crashers" was a sigh of relief because it forced nothing. There were no unnecessary bodily function gags, there were no horribly moronically stupid characters. The movie worked because for the most part, everything seems believable. The characters come off as very real people in an improbable, but still possible situation, and interwined with a "cooky" love story, the comedy works really really well.

I cannot say enough about this film. I was laughing so hard the first 3 times I saw it that tears were streaming down my face. Time #4 I had to restrain myself so I could actually hear the punchlines to the jokes so I couldn't tear-up too much. This movie is great. The characters are great. They are funny, they are sweet, but somehow, they are real. And that is why this movie was so successful. We all have either been, or could see ourselves being Owen and Vince, and they were great. So were Isla and Rachel and Christopher and everyone really. This movie is awesome!

Wedding Crashers is the story of John (Owen Wilson) and Jeremy (Vince Vaughn), who work as arbitrators, mediating in difficult divorce cases. Each year these two lifelong best friends take the month of June off to infiltrate weddings of every description.

John and Jeremy are natural born shape-shifters, adapting to any circumstance. Armed only with vast quantities of bravado and an ethnically appropriate back-story, these guys are in search of an endless party and beautiful women. As a woman, I felt I should probably be offended on behalf of my sex at their "let's get in, seduce a lot of women and get out" mentality. However, they are so likeable and their tactics are so over-the-top and so shamelessly manipulative, you just can't help laughing. They are also the life of any party. Dancing with the flower girls, tying balloon animals for the kids and schmoozing with the elderly guests, they are also the first ones up for a vigorous hora or polka, pulling the more reticent guests up with them as they go.

As the wedding season closes out, John starts to lose some of his enthusiasm for the enterprise. These "one afternoon stands" are a bit like only eating dessert it might sound really good on paper but it will leave you feeling pretty lousy after a while. He's also beginning to feel that they are a little too old to be doing this sort of thing. Jeremy soon convinces John to crash just one more wedding the wedding of the daughter of U.S. Treasury Secretary, William Cleary (Christopher Walken).

Posing as venture capital high-rollers, John and Jeremy sneak past the Secret Service. John is immediately attracted to Claire (Rachel McAdams), one of the bride's sisters. Saving her from an embarrassingly dismal wedding toast, the two immediately click, but bad timing in the arrival of Sack (Bradley Cooper), Claire's ivy league, horse's rump of a boyfriend, prevent them from getting better acquainted.

Jeremy meanwhile more than meets his match in the form of the bride's other sister, Gloria (the delightfully demented Isla Fisher). After closing the deal (ahem) with Gloria, Jeremy finds himself unable to shake her off. Jeremy describes her to John as "completely off the reservation" and he's not wrong. She is the poster child for clingy and inappropriate behavior. It is interesting to see the 6'5" Vaughn equally attracted to and afraid of this tiny woman.

Jeremy is able to wangle a weekend invitation to the Cleary estate for John to spend more time with the woman of his dreams. The Cleary Clan are one strange bunch: a racist elderly matriarch, Grandma Mary Cleary (Ellen Albertini Dow), Secretary Cleary's sexually inappropriate wife, Kathleen (Jane Seymour), and his wound-way-too-tight artistic son, Todd (Keir O'Donnell).

John and Jeremy survive a game of homicidal touch football and one of the more wildly loony dinner parties ever put on film. You have to admire Jeremy. He is ready to leave almost immediately and endures the brunt of the Cleary Clan's unwholesome attention, but he hangs in there for his friend. After suffering a series of late night, unwelcome and increasingly abusive visits from the various deranged Cleary family members, Vaughn's hyper-verbal panic attacks are some of the funniest scenes in the movie.

Others have covered in great detail the lowbrow nature of the comedy. It is very politically incorrect. It may have you rolling your eyes or even groaning at times. (I suppose I am not that easily offended.) I didn't expect too much going in and was very pleasantly surprised. I found it to be a good natured, high octane romp. If you are willing to adjust your expectations accordingly, you may as well. Vaughn and Owens have a great chemistry. Vaughn's manic energy is a perfect counter to Owens' more laidback, wry style.

Will John be able to woo Claire away from Sack? Has Jeremy found the perfect woman in Gloria? Will they be exposed as the totally lying horndogs they are? (I don't want to spoil the movie for you.) I give it a solid 4-1/2 stars. It loses half a point for a slightly weak and tacked on feeling to the ending. I've never had this much fun at a wedding, and I didn't even have to buy a present.

This movie was about 30-45 minutes too long. It's like I saw two different movies shoved together so they could succeed in getting a two hour comedy movie released. I am a firm believer in the fact that I don't mind if a comedy is short in the 70-85 minute range as long as it's funny, and this one was that movie, but it just kept going and going. So, let's talk about the first half of the movie, or the 4-star part....Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are professional wedding crashers, and they are extremely talented at it, they are sure to get every slightest detail down so no mistake can be made, and for a while everything is going fine, they are eating, drinking and freakin' everything in sight. All the while making us laugh....alot. The lies and the facial expressions these two come up with are just plain priceless. The chemistry between Vaughn and Wilson is perfect, as expected, what is this the 4th or 5th movie they've been in together?

Eventually, Wilson falls in love, breaking 1 of the some thousand wedding crashing rules, and to top it off, the woman Wilson fell in love with (the lovely Rachel McAdams) is the daughter of Christopher Walken, who just happens to be running for office. To add more crazyness to the plot, Vaughn's character nails another one of the daughters, who in turn falls in love with him. Got all that? Good, moving on....The dialogue between Wilson and Vaughn is very funny, most of the jokes work, and while a bit raunchy here and there, it fits well. Now here's where things start to fall apart, both with the movie and our heroe's.

The second part of the movie, or the 2-star part, goes all out on Hollywood cliches' We get the family bickering, the big 'fight' between Wilson and Vaughn, the speech during the wedding , it just seemed forced and that they just ran out of good jokes, so they recycled some old, lamer ones. I saw the ending coming a mile away and the edge and character the movie had is all but gone now.

So, I gave 4-stars and 2-stars, another bit of the 4-star part I rather enjoyed are the minor roles played by Jane Seymour, she plays Christopher Walken's drunk wife with new breasts, and Will Ferrell (surprised? nah, me either, I think there is an agreement with these 3 men along with Ben Stiller to appear in everyone of each other's movies. just a thought) as Chaz, the legendary wedding crasher Vaughn and Wilson are always quoting. He plays a man in his late 30's, still leaving with his mother, now crashing funerals cuz' it's so easy to get laid by a depressed chick, or so Ferrell says.

There are many subplots, most I didn't care for, but be sure and check out Vaughn's confession to a preist at the breakfeast table........priceless!!! and Jane Seymour's half-ass attempt at seducing Owen Wilson with her new ta-ta's, very funny!!

acting......4 stars, You know you can't go wrong with these two
