Happy Gilmore

Happy GilmoreThis movie has got to be one of Adam Sandler's best. Notice how he always plays people with somewhat short fuses, though some not as violent as Happy Gilmore. But that's what makes this so funny. With an opening sequence in which he tries out for a hockey team for the tenth time and isn't accepted, and ends up beating up the coach, you know where this thing is headed. This movie is more than just a regular guy with an awesome shot due to hockey and an awful temper. But the movie is at it's best when Happy gets into a fight with 'The Price is Right' host Bob Barker and Bob wins! Anyone who hasn't seen this scene can't call themself an Adam Sandler fan! The basic story of this is pretty simple, it's about a guy who thinks he was born to play hockey, but still hasn't made a team. Then he meets a guy with a wooden hand who used to be a golf player, who tells him he should start. So he does, and he's got an awesome drive, but his putting stinks. And he has an arch enemy, a total a**hole named Shooter McGavin, who makes a total fool of himself many times but still thinks himself a pretty cool guy. This movie has got some pretty funny jokes and they're actually funny ( although somewhat juvenile, but what do you expect with Adam Sandler), and you can't help but love the hapless Happy. Overall you'll be pretty happy with a movie like 'Happy Gilmore'

Adam Sandler does it again with "Happy Gimore." By far his best movie, Adam plays a wanna be hockey player with a short-fuse. He gets in many fights in this movie, one with Bob Barker I might add.

The story starts out with the audience finding out that he has tried out for this Minnesota hockey team too many times and has never been accepted. He has had enough of this happening to him so he tries to stab someone with his skate.

He leaves the ice and later on a used to be golfer with a wooden hand noticed his ability and soon enough he is on the PGA tour. The only catch is, he doesn't want to be someone that wears tight clothing and volleyball hats while playing golf....he wants fans cheering, beach-balls being hit, and fans calling his name.

A rival golfer hates this and tries to get rid of him and that is where the story takes off. Sandler plays a great role and is very funny of course. Now, I don't know about you, but if you say you like comedy but haven't seen this one yet, you are definitely not a comedy fan.

Happy Gilmore has no faults and is laughter the whole way through. So if you feel like watching a movie with your buddies that you know you are gonna die laughing at, I would suggest buying this movie because you WILL watch it again and again.

Thanks for reading my review and be sure to get this movie!!

A "pro" golfer duking it out with veteran game-show host Bob Barker right in the middle of a tournament. That scene alone makes this one of the more memorable comedies of the last 30 years. Almost everyone I know has either seen or heard of that scene and everyone laughs at it.

It IS ludicrous and that's what makes it so funny. In fact, most of the movie is totally preposterous, totally unbelievable and totally wacky, which is Adam Sandler's trademark in these comedies. He's low key but violent, as he was in Mr. Deeds, Punch-Drunk Love and a few other films.

Here, Sander is even more vocal and violent than normal and definitely more crude, which is saying something since this actor usually doesn't play guys with a lot of class. "Happy" is a hot-tempered hockey player who can hit a golf ball 400 yards so he tries his hand on the PGA tour to help raise money for his grandmother. I just shake my head even writing that last sentence, it sounds so stupid....but this is a stupid movie with an incredibly stupid story but is hilarious, for the most part.

Anyone who is a golfer would appreciate this movie more than others, because Sandler says and does things we'd all like to do on the links at times but, thankfully, don't. In short: this is a crude but very funny movie.

I hate to admit it but I've watched this movie more than 20 times and still laugh at it. I know, I know... It's juvenile, stupid, obnoxious and annoying. It is, however, funny, well-written and stands up to repeated watching. And there aren't very many movies I can say that about.

I recommend this highly and my whole family enjoys it. We wore out our VHS and then bought the DVD for Christmas this year.

This film was my introduction to Adam Sandler, and apparently it is one of his best works to date. If you can put aside your intellectualism for a while and just enjoy the outrageous schtick and sight-gags for what they are, you won't be disappointed. The story is about a guy who justs knows he was born to be a professional hockey player but ends up on the pro golf tour. All the usual gimmicks and they work great. Tons of laughs here. If laughter is medicine for the soul, this movie is probably a cure for cancer.

It's in the Bag (1945)

It's in the BagAddendum 6/8/13: This new Blu-Ray reissue IS the preferred non-voiceover version, read on.

Where to start? First, there are two versions of this hysterical farce but one of the versions is severely hampered by Fred Allen's voice overs through many of the best comedy segments. The other, and I'm guessing, "original" version involves no voice overs and this version is an unmitigated classic for which we can give a big thank you to producer Jack Skirball.

It's in the Bag is one of the screwiest comedies ever. It's the story of Fred F. Floogle(Fred Allen)an unsuccessful flea circus exhibitor and his madcap family; devoted and wholly unsatisfied wife Eve(Binnie Barnes), soon-to-be-bride daughter Marion(Gloria Pope) and genius son Homer(Richard Tyler)who is given many of the best lines though there are zillions of funny lines and millions of gags in this one-of-a-kind romp. Exterminator(Robert Benchley)is determined to not let his son Perry Parker(William Terry) marry into such an inferior family as Fred's, that is until Fred's millionaire uncle dies leaving his entire fortune to his long lost nephew, or so everyone thinks. Everyone thinks it enough to extend Fred and his family whatever they wish and they're wishing the moon. But when Fred and Eve meet with his uncle's former business partners(headed up by John Carradine in a rare, intentionally comedic role)they find that there's "no money", only a set of chairs.(This is where Mel Brook's "Twelve Chairs" may have found it's basis or vice versa if the period piece is actually from that period.)Of course Fred sells the chairs only to later dicover there's a fortune and the name of his uncle's murderer hidden in one them and now they must be retrieved. Along the way we run into Don Ameche, Jack Benny, Rudy Vallee, William Bendix, Jerry Colonna, Sidney Toler and Victor Moore to name some of the bigger names but there are what seems to be hundreds of well known faces of comedic character actors in tons of riotous bits. This movie is a real hoot. If you're old enough to understand that phrase, then this movie might be for you.

As I've said in past reviews, the fact that this and Champagne for Caesar, Ball of Fire, The Male Animal, The Senator Was Indiscreet, Cold Turkey, The Loved One, A Slight Case of Murder and Larceny Inc. plus many, many more have not been restored and tranfered to DVD format IS A CRIME.

Oh, that's Joe.

There have been numerous attempts at fashioning movie vehicles for radio stars:most of them failed to work,or work consistently well, but It's In The Bag is something of an exception.Starring Fred Allen-who had a great face for radio-and featuring cameos from Jack Benny,Robert Benchley,Don Ameche,Rudy Valee, and William Bendix, this is a simple,plot-driven movie packed full with in-jokes and tried-and-tested routines.Mel Brooks would return to the source material a Russian short story for the 1970 movie The Twelve Chairs, but the pretentiousness of that version is missing here.If you like Benny(who is on fine form) and Allen(who is at his most appealing,or least unappealing, depending on your perspective)then It's In The Bag is well worth a look.

Buy It's in the Bag (1945) Now

It's a shame that only a chosen few REALLY KNOW who Fred Allen is. In the 1940's his popularity was that of names we still cite today Jack Benny, Abbott & Costello, etc.

But in his day Fred's radio program was incredibly popular, as well as his "fued" with Jack Benny. If you love old radio, or old time comedy you will enjoy IT'S IN THE BAG. Fred Allen was, as still is, one of the smartest writers of comedy there was even today great legends such as Mel Brooks and George Carlin cite his influence.

One drawback with the film is that to get all the jokes you will need to be familiar with "the age" when the film was released since some of Fred's jokes are dated (commentary about crowded theaters comes to mind), but some of the jokes are just as fresh today as they were 56 years ago (commentary on how relatives get in the picture, why do we need to watch credits, psychoanalists, etc.)

In some ways it's a very "da-da-ist" film -as in the vein of W.C. Fields' INTERNATIONAL HOUSE. You can read the film synopsis above so I won't waste time with that I'll just say, see it for an enjoyable, smart comedy.

this is a funny movie, though under-rated. this and what i call the companion movie called "It's a Joke, Son!" starring Kenny Delmar as 'Senator Claghorne' are must-have films for Fred Allen fans (even though Fred isn't in the second film with Delmar, it's based on a character created by Fred all the same.) On this "It's in the Bag" film, the one and only Fred Allen stars as Fred Floogle, a flea circus showman. The film is about a guy who has a wealthy relative who passes away. Fred follows human nature and starts buying expensive things and puts money on stocks. Fred thinks he's inherited his uncle's $12 million fortune but all he gets is 12 chairs after the will is read. angry, Fred has his son sell the chairs. It's only later that a vinyl record surfaces with Fred's uncle instructing him to claim the $300,000 he hid in one of the chairs! Too late...they've been sold to countless people all across town. this causes Fred to go on a wild goose chase tracking down the 12 chairs. This is where the film starts to pick up speed. An array of '40s radio stars make cameo appearances: Rudy Vallee, Don Ameche, William Bendix, and the immortal Jack Benny. Bendix spoofs his "tough-guy" build by being a cowardly leader of a gang of muggers. Ameche and Vallee hit the stage in a night-club but the bass singer is missing. Fred joins them on stage as an imposter who sings a terrible bass section {by this time in the film he's running from the police because they think Fred is working for the Bendix Gang!}. Along the way Fred encounters Mrs. Nussbaum (Minerva Pious, the same woman who played that character on Fred's radio programs) in an eerie segment that allows the viewer to see what "Allen's Alley" would've looked like had Fred went into TV. Jack Benny's scene is the stand-out of course. Cheap jokes are here...Fred acts like he's the president of a Jack Benny Fan Club and needs an item for display. Fred, of course, wants the chair that Nussbaum sold Jack. an assortment of sight-gags follow (including a cash register inside his living room and wax paper to wrap the chair in!). all the while he's being chased by a detective trying to prove that Fred is in ca-hoots with the Bendix gang. Walter Tetley has a memorable role as an elevator operator. The "immediate seating" gag is hilarious as well. Jerry Colonna, the wide mustache maniac side-kick of Bob Hope, has a zany appearance as a psychiatrist who slaps himself across the face numerous time thinking a tsetse fly is swarming his face! Victor Moore plays the campy Chef and others making cameos are John Carradine, Robert Benchley, and Binnie Barnes. Fred finally tracks down the chair with the money but reality sets in...and you'll never believe what happens next...the film is an overall lesson in greed and irrational behavior. Fred Allen was a radio comedian from 1932-1949. He's famous for his topical humor, battles over censorship, battles with network executives, the "Allen's Alley" routine that ran from 1945-1949, and his false feud with Jack Benny. Allen wrote all of the material that made it to the air...he employed several writers but they served as leg-men and joke finders, nothing more. It's said that Allen read up to 100 newspapers for material. His leg-men also scoured the headlines and back-pages of newspapers for potential material. Fred Allen hated TV...we don't really know why but some have speculated that Fred didn't have a face or a delivery for TV. to see for myself I taped a TV game show Fred hosted...i did this on a cassette and i played it back and i was amazed to hear how great it SOUNDED but it didn't feel so great WATCHING it! Due to Allen's inability to make it on TV with a major hit, the TV generation doesn't know him at all. In 1954 Allen headed to the fourth chair on the panel of "What's My Line?". Ironically, Fred died in 1956 of a heart attack amidst his popular run as a panelist on "What's My Line?"...a TV show of all things!! But, "It's In The Bag" might well be the greatest thing to showcase Fred, visually, aside from his "What's My Line?" years.

DO NOT BE Fooled!!!! The original Fred Allen movie 'It's In the Bag', had Fred 'narrating' through the movie. This has been entirely cut out The worst cut is the Quartet of Rudy Vallee, Don Amache, Fred Allen & Victor Moore. It is only HALF there. The original had Fred narrating about "this group breaks windows..."

I have tried to get an original uncut but it is apparently no longer available.

Observe and Report (2009)

Observe and ReportI understand why most people didnt like this film, but it is really too bad. Not everything in this world is going to fit into your preconceived ideas of the way things should be. The good guys dont always win, and the heroes aren't always nice. Observe and Report is a great example of that. The "hero" in this film, Ronnie, continues down a path of monumentally bad moral and legal decisions. All the while believing that he is valiant and just. This, combined with his way of dealing with his own metal shortcomings, makes him horribly endearring. The humor in this film is all around, if you just let yourself stop taking it so seriously. I mean, really, haven't you ever just wanted to smack one of those skateboard rinding mall punks around just once? I joke, but that is the flavor of the film. None of the characters in this film are the kind of people that you want to know, but they are fun to watch.

Not to say that writer/director Jody Hill is the new Scorscese (he's not), but I was constantly reminded of Scorscese's early 80s disturbo-comedy "King of Comedy" when watching this. Whereas Scorscese uses stark realism, though, Hill uses the conventions and expectations of modern comedy to nail us. This could have easily been another crude and rude comedy along the lines of Superbad or Pineapple Express. Those (hell, most) comedies made today feature borderline-sociopathic, emotionally-retarded, and hopelessly immature males. Hill simply tips his characters over the edge. There is no denying that Ronnie (Seth Rogan) is a full-blown psychopath. What's surprising is how close this character is to every other character Seth Rogan has ever played!

Your reaction to this film will be greatly effected by your expectations. If you expect an extremely dark, yet often silly, film instead of yet another "Superbad" or, god forbid, "Paul Blart: Mall Cop", you should not be disappointed in the least.

Upon going into the theatre for "Observe and Report" on its opening day, I was under the impression that I was about to see an 18A-rated Mall Cop.

Boy, was I surprised when I found out how wrong I was.

Nevertheless, dark comedies have always been something I've had a knack for, and if you're expecting a "Mall Cop for adults", you best not even touch the DVD. Because believe me, Observe and Report is a dark, twisted, and VERY violent romp through bi-polar disorder, drug use, date rape, and a man running around and flashing people.

If I haven't put you off seeing this movie, you can continue reading this review.

Yeah, something tells me I put a bunch of people off watching this movie just by that comment in the above paragraph alone. The 2.5 star out of 5 rating is caused mostly by people who walked into this movie not knowing the dark film they were about to see, and expecting a sex comedy. If anything, I was surprised when I decovered its dark comedy. Nonetheless I enjoyed it quite a bit. Fronted by Seth Rogen, Observe and Report is the chronicles of an every-day man with bipolar disorder and the obnoxious tendencies that consume him.

Seth Rogen plays Ronnie Barndhart, a security guard at a shopping mall in New Mexico. He has bipolar disorder, which does get him in quite a bit of trouble. He lives with his mom, who is an alcoholic, but loves him dearly. He enjoys seeing the incredibly cute Nell at the coffee shop every day and getting free coffee from her, and enjoys talking to Brandi, who works in the makeup department of a Sears-type store.

However, a streaker has been wreaking havoc at the mall. He goes around flashing people in the parking lot and in the mall. Ronnie, and the rest of the security team have a plan to take the streaker and turn him in to the police department. One day, on her way to work, the streaker flashes Brandi, mentally scarring her. After talking to her and comforting her, Ronnie seems to develop displays of affection towards Brandi and even asks her out. The rest of the movie turns into a twisted and violent romp that is definitely not for the prudish, but most definitely NOT for the faint of heart!

Observe and Report is a brutal and twisted movie, but that's to say that I enjoyed it immensely! In fact, I like to look at this movie as a twisted stage play. This could actually work as a really good stage play, as the writing had sort of a theatrical feel to it, as if the story could work well on stage too. Rogen turns in a wonderful performance as Ronnie, our bipolar anti-hero for the 86 minutes. Anna Faris also excels here, with her portrayal of the adorably slutty Brandi. All of the cast seems to be especially great here, with no question.

As the film approaches its last 30 minutes, you feel as if you dunno whether or not you're watching the movie or having a REALLY messed up dream. There is a date-rape scene in there that has caused outrage among some viewers, which, if looked at correctly, is rather darkly funny (I think rape is a horrible but it was done humorously). The violence, especially for a comedy, is surprisingly brutaland even exaggerated in some aspects too. The dark tones are evident there, as you see some of the most twisted stuff in film ever. But that said... it's really good.

I can see why people would hate this movie. It certainly is NOT for everybody. So many will hate it and so few will actually et the point of it. But if you lower your expectations, this is a movie that is very enjoyable, and for that, remains a personal favorite of mine.

IN TOTAL:

Entertainment: 8/10

Sex: 4/10, or 3/10 if you don't count date rape

Violence: 6/10

Laughs: quite a few, but this is no laugh riot

Brutality: 10+/10

Rogen: Managed to pull it off very well

Surrealism: Am I watching a movie or having a messed up dream?

Litres of Tomato Ketchup: One 2L heinz bottle, rapidly squeezed at an alarming rate

This movie is the anti-thesis of every mall cop movie out there. Consider the mall security guard normally presented in movies as a screwball character with an overactive sense of purpose and superiority who continuously gets into stupid, impossible situations but wins the girl and the respect of everyone in the end. Now take a step back and imagine what that person would be like in real life: that is the essence of Observe & Report. It zooms in on that maniacal mall guard and keeps him under the microscope for a full analysis.

This movie is dark. The main character is bi-polar and borderline insane. The movie follows him during an awkward time in his life when he decides to ditch his meds and is obviously suffering due to not being on those meds. This begins when his grasp on reality and his sense of esteem and power is questioned when he is consumed with powerlessness by a flasher at the mall, who cannot be caught, followed closely by multiple robberies. The scenes that follow show a person careening out of control toward what would likely be suicide but in the end, finds redemption and self-worth and re-examines his life and priorities. Seth Rogen is a modern day anti-hero in a mall security guard guise.

I love this movie and all of Jody Hill's work as a writer and/or director. I do not expect everyone to love this movie; especially if you're expecting Pineapple Express or even Fist Foot Way (prior Jody Hill film starring Danny McBride). This is Jody Hill and Seth Rogen pushing the envelope and turning those expectations on their head. Their are moments of absolute hilarity in this move but they are often the kind of jokes that make you cringe somewhere inside or squirm uncomfortably. This can turn people away; but me, I love those movies. They challenge the audience to look at those around them a bit more deeply and not take everything at face value.

This is by far Jody Hill and Seth Rogen's best work. If you are a fan of either one, you will not be disappointed.

Regarding the blu-ray: excellent; crisp, clear, sharp and just fantastically done. I would have loved to see more extras but such is life. Maybe once the star ratings on Amazon reach 4-5, they can push Warner Brothers to chuck out more dough to stuff more stuff on the disc.

Mr. Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie

Mr. Bean: The Ultimate Disaster MovieThis is a 4 star movie for anyone who has never seen Mr. Bean before. As someone who has the box set and had watched Bean on PBS for many years, this movie just didn't cut it for me. It is basically a reworking of all the very best bits of Rowan from the Bean series with a movie plot around them tying them together. So while there is a new idea or two, for the most part the long term fan has seen all these gags before. I would pick up the Whole Box of Beans to get a true taste of the genius of Rowan Atkinson.

If you are already a fan of Mr. Bean and haven't yet seen this movie, run to the store!! Watch the disaster-man come to America...

A famous American painting is bought from the Brits and goes back to the US; the British art museum is asked to send a renown art scholar who will deliver a speech during the celebration of the masterpiece return. They decide to send Bean. He is no scholar, of course, he's just a watchman they wish they could fire; but they can't, so they are happy to get rid of him at least for a couple of months by sending him to the States.

Some of the antics are taken from the TV series, but there are many new ones you will enjoy. The episode of Mr. Bean's arrival to the airport is priceless, as well as his "performance" in front of the mirror-wall at the police station.

Highly recommended to any Bean lover.

I remember when i was 9 years old in 97, i went to see this film in the cinema with a relative. Good time.

I recently saw this Blu-ray and i still think it`s funny a film. I think Mr. Bean is a great character played by the great

comedic actor Rowan Atkinson. I laughed a lot of this film. I`m glad to have it in my ever growing Blu-ray collection.

Picture quality: 4/5

I read a review of this film and it has DNR and Edge Enhancement. This is true, i don`t like DNR and Edge Enhancement.

But, despite this, it i think it still looks good, but not reference quality due to the use of the mentioned. It still has HD

quality and looks better than the DVDs.

Audio quality: 3.5/5

I was suprised the DTS-HD MA 5.1 didn`t sound better. I think the Dialog was mixed too low and the music a bit hollow

and unclear. The think the dialog and music actually sounded better in the foreign dub

"Bean: The Movie" is a good movie, if you are into Mr Bean. Many of the gags are from the series episodes, though there are some new adventures that Bean gets up to.

The movie has Mr Bean sent to the USA on an international art gallery event to unveil "Whistler's Mother" in an LA gallery. To the Americans, Bean is referred to as a genius in the British art world, an expert without peer. Naturally, expectations are high.

As mentioned, fans will be familiar with some of the gags that appear in the movie, albeit under new circumstances. However, there are some new ones that generate enough novelty to make the movie worth seeing.

With the longer format, I am not all that sure that the Bean concept was as punchy as the episodes. I certainly didn't experience any physical discomfort, cramping, breathing difficulties or blurred vision. However, this movie was a good dose of light and amusing entertainment.

I would suggest that the one of the complete Bean series collections would be a better place for laughter a-la Bean. Though, in this encounter between the intellectual art world and Bean, it is certainly the snobs that come off second best.

Airheads (1994)

AirheadsI got the old DVD of "Airheads" the day it came out in 2001. At the time, it felt like it took forever for the movie to finally reach DVD, when looking back DVD had only been commercially available for 4 years at that point, and had only been common for about 2 years. Well, it's now been 7 years since Blu Ray became available, and this time it really has been a long wait, and "Airheads" has finally found its way home in HD.

Now, the movie looks and sounds better than it ever has before. It's obvious that the movie didn't have a huge budget, but there is some amazing clarity in scenes that never really showed on DVD, and lots of little things will jump out like never before. (Example: individual toys and things on the shelf when Chazz meets up with Rex at the toy store, various stickers and posters at the radio station, etc.) I popped in the DVD before checking out the Blu Ray and it was evident from the very beginning montage/animations that the picture quality was much better. Crowd scenes in the clubs and bars and outside the radio are pretty clear now, too, to where you can see everyone's face. Little details from the soundtrack jump out.

But now, the bad news. Not only are none of the old extras from the 2001 DVD here (two music videos, trailer, the mockumentary about the Lone Rangers holding up the radio station), there isn't even a MENU. I don't know how it can be 2013 and this disc doesn't have a menu. When I put the disc in, there was a brief mention about how to access subtitles, and the film started. I tried the pop up menu from the remote. Nothing. I stopped playback and came back. Nothing. Unless I missed something, there is no way to access a menu, and the movie just starts. That's pretty barebones.

I wasn't expecting a 20th Anniversary release with new extras, interviews and commentary next year or anything. It's obvious the film only has a small following. If all we have for "Airheads" on Blu Ray is the HD film slapped on a disc, then so be it, for now. If you love the movie as much as I do, you'll enjoy how it looks and sounds, at least.

Very funny movie. Great video transfer great audio. I see this movie on encore on TV and that's why I brought it. I have never own this title in my DVD collection but when I saw that it was coming to blu ray had to buy it.

National Security (2003)

National SecurityNational Security is the perfect movie to see this year. I saw it the day it came out and I want to see it again. It stars one of the best comedians today (Martin Lawrence) and another funny misfit (Steve Zahn from SAVING SILVERMAN). The movie is funny yet has good action. Here is the plot.

Steve Zhan plays Hank. An LA policeman who is bent on revenge to finding the guy who killed his partner in gun battle. Lawrence is Earl. A guy who just got kicked out of the force after turning a practice session into a disaster. Plus Earl always thinks that people have a problem with him because he is blacknot because of his attitude. One day while Earl is trying to have a regular day, he realizes he left his keys in his car and tried to stick his hand in and get it. Hank catches him and interrogates what is going on. While that is happening, a bee comes by and Earl is allergic to bees and so Hank tries to get the bee away but the way they were positioned, it looked like Hank was beating on Earl and a guy who near by got the whole thing on camera. Because of that, a huge commotion started thru out the state about a white cop beating a black civilian. Hank is fired from the police and sent to jail for 6 months and Earl just kicks back and lets the whole thing happen even though he knows it was a bee.

Hank serves his six months and after getting out he tries to do something similar toward police worka job as a security guard. While on the job, Hanks gets called about a robbery and goes to check it out. It seems that the robbers were the guys he had an encounter with in the past and one of the guys was his partner's murderer. Hank goes into action right away and a fellow security guard who worked in the building comes to back up Hank and that person just happens to be Earl!! The two would've had a long argument but realized it wasn't the time and chased the bad guys but they were stopped by the police. Police that Hank kidnapped Earl for revenge but Earl decided not to have anything bad happen to Hank this time although it would have felt real good. Hank goes on to try find these guys who did the robbery because its personal and Earl thinks it is personal too because one them called him a monkeyand he thinks he was called that because he is black. Both Hank and Earl go on the case even though they are not policemen and along the way they go through many arguments that sometimes lead toward zany consequences like fighting over which to go on the streetright or left and they end up jumping the highway into a pile of portable toilets. Hank and Earl must try to put the past aside so they can help each other to try and find these bad guys.

National Security loaded with intense action, thrilling chase scenes, gun battles, fist fights, and many parts that will make you laugh hard. It's definitely as good as blue Steak and you should see it while it is still in theaters.

I wasn't expecting much from the film, "National Security," but what I got wasn't that great either.

This film revolves around a man (Martin Lawrence) who is trying to be a cop. He gets kicked out of the police academy and must resort to being a security guard. One day he comes face to face with a police officer (Steve Zahn) who accidently thinks Lawrence's character is breaking into a car. What happens next looks like a Rodney King beating, but really isn't. Zahn's character is sent to jail and when he gets out can only find a job as a security guard. Zahn's partner was also killed, so once he's out of jail, he's on a quest to find his partner's killer. Lawrence and Zahn then team up, under crazy circumstances, to find the killers and bring them to justice.

There are a few funny moments in the movie, but they are far and few between. Martin Lawrence's previous films, such as "Bad Boys" and "Nothing to Lose" were much better and funnier. I would have to agree with others when they say there were too many racial jokes throughout the film. Just about every sentence that came out of Martin's mouth had some sort of racial slur in it. After awhile it became very annoying.

Those who really enjoy Martin Lawrence's films may enjoy this movie, but I would suggest just leaving this one on the shelf and waiting for "Bad Boys 2" to come out this summer.

Didn't like the first 10 minutes, but the rest of the movie we liked.

Loved Martin in Police academy, hilarious! Bumble bee incident and the chasing of the semi truck.

Martin ends up woking with Earl to go after the bad guys, but what do you know. The police get in the way of the pursuit. What a surprise.....NOT. Police are never in the right place at the right time, the movies are no different. Crooked cops do exist, not just in the movies.

Very funny... Not a rental but as a purchase..Love this movie.

If you are a cop lover, you won't like this movie.

Martin's comedy rocks! Martin's character and Earl made the movie for us.

Once again the bad guys got caught. See crime doesn't pay! Even if you are on the other side of the law.

This is about a guy( Martin Lawrence), who accuses a cop( Steve Zahn) of beating him, so he can get on the police force, whn really he was just beating a bee that Martin Lawrences charactar was afraid of. So he goes to prison for 6 months, than they reunite, and have to stick together to take down some criminals. Good Film!

I was really amazed with the attitude of the character played by Martin Lawrence. It was absolutely racist to the point that the Lawrence character send an innocent cop to jail and that is supposed to be funny. His obsession about being black is showed during most of the scenes with special stress on his lack-of-brilliant conclusion to the white cop when he tells him that "being innocent in jail + your girlfriend dumped you + an underpaid job after that" means you're a black guy. Basically the simple action plot was just an excuse to portrait was the movie is about: A different version of racism, promoted by the black not-funny main character.

Maybe I am not the target audience of this movie!. At least it was a rental

Moonrise Kingdom (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy + UltraViolet) (2012)

Moonrise KingdomSet in 1965, Moonrise Kingdom is a stylized coming of age film that delivers on its promise to bring the viewer of any age back to the intensity of just-entering-adolescence love. That alone makes this an extraordinary film. In addition, the music and imagery are beautifully orchestrated to delight the senses. The casting, characters, and acting are superb. It is rare to have a film that puts together this much talent and then taps it to the fullest.

Heavy hitters include the brilliant Edward Norton (for once watching his language and holding his temper) as an anal but dedicated troop leader, Bill Murray who in stark contrast to the young stars in this film, fails to find any joy whatsoever in his work in the law profession, wealth, family or beautiful surroundings. His dissatisfied wife (Frances McDormand who was the psychiatrist in Norton's first film Primal Fear), is also an attorney (the lawyer banter are some of the funniest lines in the film). Bruce Willis (who plays very well with child stars as he has a bit of child still left in him) is the bachelor, island cop who goes head-to-head with the chilling Tilda Swinton (white witch from Narnia) known only as "Social Services," as she callously plans to put "the boy" in juvenile refuge to undergo shock therapy as needed.

Despite the exceptionally strong adult cast, the two main child stars Sam and Suzy not only keep pace, but outshine the grownups with their unfailing loyalty and unconditional love for each other, both express an unthinking complete giving of themselves to one other. The film captures beautifully in the persons of these two intriguing social outcasts the experience of moving from being trapped in isolation into discovering and developing a union with another. I love how the two of them are so adult and wise in one way and still very much children, with childlike reasoning and priorities, e.g., Suzy runs away and packs a suitcase full of books and her kitten but not a change of clothes.

The cast is rounded out by a boyscout troop with scouts having inappropriately derogatory names as we did in my youth such as lazy eye for the boy with the eyepatch. Also true to life was how dangerous and unsupervised our childhoods were then. Seeing the boy jump from two story height onto a trampoline without a surrounding net or a single spotter in sight, for example, really brought me back. And interactions with our parents really were pretty much restricted to being called to the table for dinner. I loved seeing Suzy's little brothers (Irish triplets) while away the time with all of the board and other none electronic games, fueled by a couple of dice or imagination.

Wes Anderson spins a simple, sweet story yet the viewer never knows exactly where it is headed. Throughout, the film is subtly hilarious. In trademark Anderson fashion, the lines are delivered in an almost deadpan way with all the characters completely oblivious to the irony and ridiculousness of the situation, dialog, and even their lives and themselves. I highly recommend purchasing this movie; it's one you'll want to watch again and again and share with other people. I've already seen it four times and it hasn't even opened in theaters in my state, yet.

IN A WORLD WHERE films must shock, where films must employ impossible stunts, extreme violence and outrageous characters, comes Moonrise Kingdom with none of it. This is a real STORY, with real characters, in which everything that happens is actually possible. What a concept. Told with humor and compassion, the film sweeps you along without the dreaded need for suspension of disbelief. The story is pure Americana life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Some do it better than others. Not everyone is a winner. Its stars seven of them! are all totally out of character. This is not a Bill Murray vehicle or an Edward Norton vehicle or a Bruce Willis vehicle. The stars fit in, almost as afterthoughts. It's the story that counts. Most impressively, it has style. From the opening shots of Susie, face on with her binoculars in various rooms of the house, you know this film will be stylish. And understated. It is worthy of any screen in the world, in a world where American films have become overpoweringly boring and repetitive and entirely predictable. This is the kind of film that France would have originated, and which Americans would have remade into a noxious overkill of action and adventure. It is therefore rare and precious. It will endure long after Transformers XXVII has faded. Kudos to Wes Anderson and team for resisting the urges that every other Hollywood production takes for a granted as a requirement. Bob Balaban as the narrator, making his own appearance in the story, is inspired, as is his framing in the shots. That kind of attention to style gives Moonrise Kingdom the ability to sweep you away. On these shores, this is the first must see in years.

It's 1965, and this mystical-magical story will tug at the heartstrings as it entertains with delight for the entire family. Sam and Suzy are both age twelve, neither one of them is popular and they both have their own issues outside of their charming relationship. However, they are appealing to each other in a unique friendship when they decide to run away together in their own great adventure. Bruce Willis can play the role of just about anything, and in this captivating story, his acting performance is excellent, along with all the other characters. The heart-warming story is touching, enjoyable from start to finish, and very funny. A Magnificent fun-filled movie for the entire family. Highly Recommended!

I normally have a no-movie-buying policy. I love movies, but I don't need physical copies of them cluttering up the house. Downloads are too easily available, without any storage issues. But in this case, my son fell in love with this movie in the theater, and I loved that this is the first movie he truly loved. So this was a Christmas gift, and a much appreciated one. The fact that I broke the house rule for it made the gift doubly sweet. Kind of like the treat of getting to stay up past your bedtime (reason alone to have a strict bedtime).

It is something of a challenge to write a review of a Wes Anderson film. How do you explain a film where the soundtrack includes pieces by Hank Williams and Benjamin Britten and yet they both fit perfectly? Everything about Anderson's style is so unique, from the way the visual shots are composed and the way the dialogue is written to the way the actors deliver the dialogue, not to mention the myriad odd little background details that are worked in throughout. It's almost impossible to simply describe the film and still do it proper justice. The best I can really say about Moonrise Kingdom is that it's arguably the ultimate Wes Anderson film, his masterpiece at least to date. And I say that as someone who isn't or at least wasn't prior to this film a particular fan of his work.

Written by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola, Moonrise Kingdom takes place in the summer of 1965 on an island off the coast of New England, where two twelve-year-old misfits Sam Shakusky (Jared Gilman) and Suzy Bishop (Kara Hayward) run off together into the wilderness because they've fallen in love. In flashback, we learn that Sam, an orphan who's a member of Khaki Scout Troop 55, which has its summer camp every year on the island, and Suzy, whose utterly dysfunctional family has a summer house on the island, met the previous summer and felt an instant affinity for each other, which resulted in their corresponding over the year and hatching a plan to run away together when the two of them would again be on the island the following summer. When they meet up, each brings what they think they'll need to survive. Sam brings camping equipment; Suzy brings six books, her cat, and a portable record player.

A search begins for the two runaways when their respective adults notice they're missing. In the case of Sam, this is Scout Master Randy Ward (Edward Norton), and in Suzy's case, her lawyer parents, Walt Bishop (Bill Murray) and Laura Bishop (Frances McDormand) , who in turn call in the island's local police chief, Captain Sharp (Bruce Willis), who we subsequently learn has been having a long-term affair with Laura that both realize is hopeless but neither has the strength to walk away from.

I don't want to give away any more about the plot as a lot of the enjoyment of a Wes Anderson film is simply watching things unfold in delightful, unexpected and sometimes simply weird ways, and Moonrise Kingdom is no exception. I will say that the ending was perfectly written and executed, bringing a number of plot threads and themes together in ways that you'll truly have to experience to appreciate. If nothing else, Moonrise Kingdom truly merits an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The dialogue, the originality and the way in which the themes are developed in in which all of the intricate elements are tied together as the story plays out is truly a work of art. Not to mention all of the myriad little cultural cues and references worked into the visuals and the dialogue, from the more obvious ones like Noah's Ark and Peter Pan to the more obscure like Chief Joseph and the Flight of the Nez Perce.

The performances are all top-notch, to the point that it's difficult to single out any one as being superior to the rest. Newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward turn in particularly deft performances as Sam and Suzy, more than able to carry the film's center as events swirl around them. Bruce Willis does a particularly nuanced job as the island's police chief, trying to do the right thing by the two runaways even when he can't manage to do it for himself, his eyes and his pauses delivering volumes about the things he doesn't say. Bill Murray's Walt is a bleakly comic mix of bluster and despair, while Frances McDormand's Laura runs the family show, herding her kids around with a bull-horn (something apparently Anderson's mother actually did). Edward Norton's Scout Master Randy goes through one of the film's more interesting evolutions as events lead him out of his comfort zone of structure and order into swirling chaos and eventually to surprising self-discovery. The boys who make up the rest of the Khaki Scouts in Troop 55 make an excellent supporting group-think character, as do the boys who play Suzy's three younger brothers. In addition to the cast already mentioned, other notable actors who show up are Bob Balaban as the film's on-screen Narrator (who is also apparently the island's local historian and who gives a bizarre visual impression of having been one of Santa's elves in a past life), Jason Schwartzman as one of the scout's Cousin Ben, Harvey Keitel as Khaki Scout Commander Pierce, and Tilda Swinton as "Social Services" (it's one of the running jokes in the film).

A lot of themes run through Moonrise Kingdom, particularly with regard to the question of whether there is any real difference between adults and children. The adults in Moonrise Kingdom all experience private feelings of inadequacy in their roles as adults, and in fact act like children in their dealings with each other, but maintain the pretense nonetheless in the presence of the 'real' children. The children in turn act like little versions of the adults, the only difference being that they're not yet aware of their inadequacies and hence do not feel inhibited by them. A lot of this is played out in the dialogue and the way the actors deliver it, maintaining an even consistency in the level of vocabulary and in the rhythm of delivery, whether the words are coming from an adult or a kid, further erasing the boundaries we generally use to distinguish between the two. The adults sound like the children and the children sound like the adults, but without the doubts.

There are a number of memorable scenes in the movie, many humorous but some surprising in how they speak again to the issues of whether there really is any difference between adulthood and childhood. And in the inadequacies adults feel in their roles as adults. One of my favorites is a moment where Walt and Laura are lying awake in their summer house, unable to sleep with the two kids missing and the sound of the approaching storm beginning to rise outside. As they stare at the ceiling, Walt, in a moment of despondent candor, says "I hope the roof flies off and sucks me into space." When Laura reminds him "We're all they've got," Walt replies simply but tellingly "It's not enough." Another great scene occurs when the other Scouts in the troop go searching for Sam, but only after arming themselves with every weapon they can find or make. It's darkly comic and appalling at the same time when you realize that the boys are just mimicking what they think adults are like.

On a side note, the books in the film that Suzy takes with her and from which she reads to Sam and to the other Scouts are completely fictitious. Or at least they were. Anderson commissioned six artists to create jacket covers for the books, and then he wrote the passages for each of the books that Suzy ends up reading aloud. Anderson had considered creating animated segments to accompany the reading scenes, but in the end he chose instead to just have Suzy reading with the boys listening enraptured. After the film was completed and released though, Anderson decided to animate all six books and use assemble them in a video in which Bob Balaban, acting against as narrator, introduces the segment for each of the books. This video may appear in the DVD/Blu-ray release as bonus material.

All in all, I would highly recommend Moonrise Kingdom, both to fans of Wes Anderson as his best film to date, and to anyone else who enjoys quirky but highly engaging story-telling with masterful attention to every detail and fine performances by an extremely talented cast of actors.

Mac & Devin Go to High School (2012)

Mac & Devin Go to High SchoolEvery generation needs its great stoner comedies! Who better than vocal supporters of the smoke, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, to usher in a cool and contemporary new vision of high times at high school? Seemed like a great idea and I was actually rooting for "Mac and Devin Go To High School" to be a mind altering good time. Aside from a few amusing ideas, though, this Snoop Dogg production harshed my mellow. Painfully unfunny and utterly plotless, this barely even qualifies as a movie. Form start to finish, it runs just over an hour which includes two full musical numbers and a series of unrelated man-on-the-street interviews to serve as filler. Without these elements, it would be more like forty minutes. Even that might be acceptable if the movie offered any entertainment value. Not even half-baked does this qualify as fun. Its humor is almost non-existent, its performances are lifeless, and its graphics are amateurish (seriously, the special effects are done on someone's home computer so don't expect any big fun psychedelic interludes). Heck, it works more as an educational film about chronic than anything else. Even the worst stoner comedies embrace their over-the-top silliness, I just can't believe how dull this is!

The movie starts out great. A talking blunt named Slow Burn (voiced by Mystikal) introduces the film and is both amusing and creative. Forget about the "real" actors, I'd have preferred the entire story to revolve around Slow Burn! He pops up once or twice more and is the only character that I thought was interesting. Snoop Dogg plays a high school student who's in his fifteenth year as a senior (his actual age would probably put that at closer to 20 or 25). He's the resident bad boy and dealer, a rebel that everyone loves and all women want to be with. Wiz Khalifa, on the other hand, plays an uptight scholar looking to make a success of his life. Of course, being educated, working hard, or being ambitious are all attributes worthy of scorn as the screenplay continually tells us. Snoop takes Khalifa under his wing and the pair spend the rest of the movie smoking. That's about all the plot you get aside from a throw-away side story where Snoop must graduate to get with a hot substitute teacher. Serious drama! I mean what woman in her right mind wouldn't think he was a catch?

Again, I wasn't expecting "Mac and Devin Go To High School" to be some big epic. I just wanted it to be funny. The soundtrack, which came out seven months ago, has the hit "Young, Wild, and Free" which gets a big production number at the graduation ceremony. But trust me, the music doesn't save you from the utter boredom of the rest of the movie. Mike Epps is wasted in a small role and Andy Milonakis (who I generally like) is quite annoying. But as loud and over-the-top as Milonakis is, at least he's trying to breathe some life into the film! Stoned or stone cold sober, this was a big disappointment that felt completely homemade. Should have been stupid fun, but its not even smart enough to reach for that. KGHarris, 6/12.

One of the worst stoner flicks Ive ever seen. If you're looking for some Cheech and Chong, Half Baked, Jay and Silent Bob etc etc THIS AINT IT! The 2 stars is for Snoop, and the cameos. Least it was cheap through Amazon, even being that its a Blu Ray. Still a total waste of cash.

The film opens up with a talking joint informing you that the only way to watch this film is to be stoned. It is designed to be cheesy and campy with names like "N. Hale High School" and "Ralph Skinnfloot". It has an immaturity appeal to it. The plot is immaterial and the film would have been better as a "Groovetube" type film than trying to follow a plot about an old pot dealer in HIGH school.

The humor was re-hashed (pardon my drug pun) jokes and dialouge that would indeed sound better stoned. The movie suggests that you smoke pot continuously. Even seasoned pot smokers know better than that. The cartoon aspect of the film was good as was the talking joint with the bloodshot eyes. If they had incorporated the joint into the film, rather than someone talking as an aside, I think that would have been more entertaining to a stoned audience.

Parental Guide: Over abundance of F-bombs and N-words. Sex and Nudity. Sex talk.

Return of the Living Dead (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in DVD Packaging) (1985)

Return of the Living DeadBefore we start. I want to affirm that I love this film. Great script, great performances, great soundtrack, great directing.

Also, regardless of the negative feedback I give this DVD, we are unfortunately obligated to buy it, if we ever want to see a special edition DVD.

Ok, here goes. Yeah it looks great. But it just felt wrong. I couldn't place the reason. I thought maybe it was a visual matter. But I quickly realized that what was bugging me was the soundtrack. It was inexplicably, utterly mangled.

Will someone tell me why? Why were the vocals for whole songs removed? I am sorely disappointed and angered by this. I am outraged by the George Lucas style of re-working your film for DVD, and abandoning the original theatrical cut. If you feel the need to improve your film, fine, provide an alternate cut, or additional scenes, or whatever, that's great. Give me the option on the menu to see the "improved version, or the regular cut. But don't alter a classic, and not even mention it and try to pass it off as the original.

There are so many examples of this butchering, that I can't name them all. I only watched it once last night, and am at work now, but a few definitely come to mind.

#1 The scene where Trash and Suicide and the gang are speeding towards the cemetery used to have the Damned song Dead Beat Dance as the background music. Well, not anymore! You get the inital maniacal laugh, and then nothing, a completely different song. Why?!

#2 The scene where the zombie says: "send more cops", with a thick new york accent. A classic scene right? We all loved it right? Well did you notice that they changed the voice? Did you notice that is was awful in comparison, and not nearly as funny? Was there a good reason for this sacrilege? Has Dan O'Bannon lost his mind, or was this the studios fault? In the end credits, where the best-of scenes replay a second time, we hear the "send more cops" line in all its original glory. So I know I am not imagining this.

#3 What's his name, the Pathmark guy (no slight intended, his performance was excellent), takes his own life by placing himself in the crematorium. In the original version of this scene is accompanied by the song Burn the Flames, which sports a haunting guitar solo at the exact moment the door shuts and we hear the man's tortured screams. It is actually one of my favorite scenes in the film. The haunting music enhances the sadness of the moment.

But not anymore. Now the music is faded out in a particularly unartistic way, and the scene plays silent. Sorry but this is a disgrace. I waited years for this film to be re-released and I feel betrayed. The soundtrack was perfect the way it was. In a different film it would not be as a big of a deal. But when you are the ONLY zombie/comedy/horror film with a punky soundtrack, and a damned good one, and everyone loves you for it, you don't go around meddling and altering, deleting and rewriting, compiling and defiling.

It go to the point where I held my breath with every song change, worried sick that they would ommit lyrics or do away with the track altogether. Waves of relief washed over me when I reached the scene where the zombies are attacking the funeral home (and our heroes are furiously nailing doors and windows shut)and I discovered that the Cramps song "Surfin Dead" was left intact. Thank god, or the devil, for that one.

Could I be wrong? Did I miss some sort of soundtrack feature, where mistakenly clicked something off or on? Or is the sad fact that this movie has been permanently altered...?

After over a decade of being out of print (do to legal wrangling in regards to the film's punk rock soundtrack that is prominently featured throughout the film) the classic 1980s zombie film that turned heads with it's dark humor, witty script, and original zombie design is now available on DVD!

Freddy is a typical early 1980s punk rock fan who, on his first day at work at UNEEDA Medical Supply, learns that the movie "Night of the Living Dead" was based on an actual event involving zombies and that UNEEDA one day came into possession of one of the zombies which is now being held in a cylinder in the basement. A non-believing Freddy is shown the container just as it explodes, filling the supply company's building with a toxic green gas. The gas causes the sole human body in the body to come to life (as well as freeing the zombie from it's cylinder prison) and after failing to destroy the zombie the tradition way (cutting of it's head) they take it to the local crematorium to be cremated. Unfortunately this makes things MUCH, MUCH worse as the smoke laced with the toxic chemical mixes with storm clouds that rain down on the city at night and resurrecting the bodies buried inside the town's cemetary where ironically Freddy's fellow punk-friends are having a little party.

The kicker for Return of the Living Dead that makes it a classic film and makes it one of the most well loved zombie movies is the fact that the film's zombies aren't your typical movie zombie. They are smart (luring police to the crematorium after killing off several cops who come to investigate all of the strange activity going on), are fast and agressive instead of slow and dumb and the zombies have the most hilarious banter involving their thirst for brains that can have even the most squeemish movie viewer laughing.

Featuring a great punk rock sound-track and a great mix of humor and violence, this film has sadly been out of circulation for over a decade do to the it's punk soundtrack. Now it's back on the market on DVD. This is a must buy DVD for any true horror fan....

Re-animated corpses, swearing, blood & gore, full-frontal female nudity, iconoclastic jabs at American culture, and lots of gallows humor--what more could a horror fan ask for?

Any genre fan who has a morbid sense of humor is sure to enjoy 1985's THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. In the same vein as other tongue-in-cheek horror shtick such as the Chiodo Brothers' KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE and Sam Raimi's ARMY OF DARKNESS, this one's specifically a spoof of George Romero's classic and highly revered zombie film NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Director/Screenwriter Dan O'Bannon, probably best known for having penned the original ALIEN movie, does a fantastic job of lovingly poking fun at the Horror and SF genres while at the same time satirizing everything from the U.S. Military to Punk Rock. This movie is not only funny, it's got plenty o' "brains"!

And you can't beat the financial value of the DVD edition. Not only does it cost less than a lot of other full-length, widescreen DVD thrillers--including some that are hardly worth the plastic and aluminum it took to make 'em--but it also includes these cool extras: an optional audio commentary by O'Bannon and production designer William Stout; both the G-rated and R-rated theatrical trailers; over 5-minutes of various TV spots; some storyboard-like production stills; and a really cool "Designing the Dead" featurette, in which O'Bannon and Stout discuss the evolution of the final look and feel of the movie (lots of great shots of Stout's EC-Comics-like designs for the zombies offered in this one).

"How was your day, dear?" "Usual, crap." I love that line. This is my absolute favorite movie of all time and I am extatic to hear that is finally coming out on DVD. The reason why I love it so much...couldn't tell ya. It's just one of those movies that keep you forever. I loved it. It's a unique zombie flick. With the portrayal of younger adolescents, I think it gives the movie a certain edge that no other zombie, or any other horror film for that matter, has ever had. Past, present and I will boldy say future. With combinations of laughs, scares, and gore, it surpasses every horror movie ever made. The character of Suicide and Trash are my two favorites. Unfortuanately for me, they are the first two to be devoured by brain starved zombies. But I always looked at it this way, Trash got what she wanted..."A bunch of old men to surround me. And start bighting, and eating me alive." I see. Trust me, if you are an avid horror fanatic like myself and love zombie films, check this one out! And if you are in to Punk music at all, the soundtrack for the movie rocks. With bands like The Cramps, The Damned, The Flesheaters, and TSOL, you'll be in pure heaven...Or hell. Whichever you prefer! I give this movie 2 THUMBS UP...and one half eaten brain!!!

Meet The Spartans - Pit Of Death Edition (2008)

Meet The Spartans - Pit Of Death EditionI'll have to admit, watching this movie the first time, there were some quick laughs, and it caught my attention. Sometimes, I feel the jokes were drawn out way too long, and that's a shame. If I were a 14 or 15 year old, I'd probably give this all 5 stars. This definitely isn't a movie in which you can watch over and over again. When you're bored, or strung out from the job, or the weekly grind is just too much and you want to let loose for a brief moment, go ahead. Otherwise, this movie is dime a dozen, in the ranks of The Comebacks, Epic Movie, etc etc etc.

Not only does this movie suck completely, it doesn't abide by the rules of how to make a good spoof at all. There was ONE scene where I laughed, and that was the "Ugly Betty" scene. Epic Movie was very poorly made, yet it had a few laugh-out-loud moments. Did I enjoy Date Movie at all? No. Neither did I enjoy this.

These are the rules of making a good spoof:

1. Be timely. A joke about Ellen in Mr. Wrong??????????

2. If trying to be offensive, be funny too. An accident-prone protagonist in Superhero Movie was funny, assaulting a Spartan kid with many heavyweight objects is not.

3. Widen your humor sources when cracking the odd joke. Go everywhere, don't stay on the same topic just with different words.

4. Be subtle when making a spoof. Not everything has to be uncalled for.

5. Don't go outside the genre you're spoofing. American Idol? Shrek? Casino Royale? Really??????

And lastly...

6. DON'T EXPLAIN EVERY SINGLE SOURCE MATERIAL AND RIFF. If you have to explain everything (Scary Movie 4 was brilliant because it only did this once), chances are it's not funny.

MTS doesn't do any of this, it just does the exact opposite. There's no plot (or so to speak), it's too unfunny to be a comedy, too spoofy to be a spoof, and overall, too unsubtle to be a comedy in the first place.

Unbearable.

All that needs to be said. Complete trash. I'm not sure at what point, pop-culture references became funny just by themselves. I guy dressed up like Sanjaya from American Idol pops out of nowhere and they kick him into a pit. Then the 3 person American Idol panel. Britney Spears and K-fed.

There's no setup. There's no nothing. If this is what has come of hollywood spoof comedies... I'm done... and now that we've seen a long string of these comedic failures pour out into the theatres and people actually pay for them... legitimizing them... we'll probably see more. It's a sad day in Hollywood.

Thousands of scripts are written every year that should be funded and produced before trash like this. When a supposed comedy does nothing but make this viewer angry... it's awful.

Everyone should be offended that cheap, brainless, here's a pop-culture reference and here's another type movies are being produced like MEET THE SPARTANS. We deserve better from people who are making millions hand over fist and can only come up with DATE MOVIE, EPIC MOVIE, LITTLE MAN, WHITE CHICKS and MEET THE SPARTANS.

When parody movies (Epic Movie, Not Another Teen Movie, Scary Movie) started coming out, it was funny. Sure, these movies were cheesy, but way more enjoyable than this dreck.

This movie is littered with too many pop culture references. Rather than putting in real jokes and genuinely creative/funny situations, they chose to focus on making fun of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Kobe, Britney Spears, Americsn Idol, and so on and so forth. Over ans over and over, especially with Paris Hilton. There were also a lot of product placements (ex. Subway sandwiches)

I unde4rstand this is a parody film and is not meant to be historically accurate. Which is just fine with me. But the pop references and product placement, along with some really stupid/gross/tasteless bits (like what the penguin did in Leonidas' mouth, or what the dog did to Leonidas in the James Bond scene) make for a movie that, instead of delivering good laughs, falls flat on its face due to being bogged down with all of these references instead of classic or real comedy bits and jokes. Many of the 'jokes' in this movie were also really milked and pushed too far, such as the scene where Leonidas pushes people into the pit. It was funny at first, but then he kept pushing more and more and MORE people into the pit and it just stopped being funny.

Just about the only thing I liked about this movie was Kevin Sorbo's appearance.
