Inglorious Bastards (1978)

Inglorious BastardsI watched this classic on HBO as a child and loved it. I recently bought it and watched it the first day I received it. It is the best "B" class WW II movie out there. The acting is pretty good and the story, while implausible, is pretty cool. All of the actors were perfect for their role. Other than Bo Svenson, Fred Williamson, and Ian Bannen, I have not seen any of the other actors since. It's too bad. I would like to see them in something else. By the way, if any of you out there who were in the service is wondering why Bo Svenson sounds authentic calling cadence in the movie, it is because he was in the Marines for six years. The movie is relatively short by today's standards so pause it if you go to the bathroom. Anyway, a great and fun movie. I loved it as a kid and do today.

Thanks to the odd impressive matte shot and a skilful marshalling of its limited resources, Enzo Castellari's Inglorious Bastards doesn't look cheap even if the same extras keep on getting killed in every action scene, but despite Quentin Tarantino's slavish devotion it's more Garrison's Guerrillas than the Dirty Half-Dozen. Castellari's heroes are a standard issue group of American military prisoners: black marketer (Michael Pergolani), would-be mobster (Peter Hooten), coward (Jackie Basehart), proud black man who got tired of taking s*** (Fred Williamson), mildly sympathetic disillusioned German deserter to avoid offending the lucrative German market (Raimund Harmstorf) and the obligatory cocky but heroic one who got busted for using his fighter plane as a taxi for dates across the English Channel in his downtime (Bo Svenson). Naturally their plan to make a break for the border when they're waylaid en route to the stockade by some Nazi planes naturally ends up with them embarking on a mission vital to the success of the war (admittedly only after inadvertently killing some of their own side), but then this is a film that exists purely to do only what's expected of it rather than offer any unwelcome surprise. Sure, there's the odd spin on some of the old favorites, but there aren't nearly enough naked women with machine guns to truly lift it above the formulaic.

Dialogue isn't exactly sparkling "All Americans are mongrels... and your women are whores!" and half the cast are dubbed anyway (Ian Bannen's Scottish tones are replaced by an American actor and Hooten by what sounds like John Dall), but the film does its job even if it's more supporting feature than main event. Castellari is the best kind of hack, one with a good eye for framing and who knows how to shoot action (although the sight of one German soldier being lifted up, Peter Pan-style, on a visible wire in an explosion is worthy of one of the sight gags in Top Secret! It's a minor film and one it's best not to expect too much from, but there a lot worse exploitation films out there.

The three disc US Region 1 NTSC DVD comes with a decent array of extras, including Easter Egg alternate title sequences for a couple of the film's many video reissues as Deadly Mission and G.I. Bro (it's also known as Counterfeit Commandos, Hell's Heroes and Commando Bastards) a cheap-and-cheerful hour long making of, brief then and-now tour of the locations with Castellari and a CD (not included on the 2-disc set) of what little remains of the score the composer recorded his son's school play over most of the masters! By far the most curious of the extras is an interview with Quentin Tarantino and Castellari, with the chin treating it as part confessional, part therapy, unburdening himself on the engaging director as if an unworthy disciple at the feet of a true master.

it's hard to say what I think of this film. It's, in some ways, a brilliant war film that deserves recognition, while it can simultaneously make you shudder. it has a clever plot but then you have dialogue like "hey, those are our flyboys!" (impersonates an airplane while making a machine gun noise); there are some great effects and sets that are made good use of, but you can see the ropes pulling men from an explosion more clearly than you can see the strings in an Ed Wood film; you have naked german women firing machine guns at retreating American troops, and then you have the fact that this scene only lasts a couple of seconds (this is first time that an Italian movie has skimpped out in this category, let alone not completely over do it. It should have been at least a few minutes long, if not for the sex appeal then for the pure hilariouty of it.)

It's like a movie that's so bad that it's good, but at the same time is actually good. And, like many films of this sort, it's main source of entertainment comes from it's cleverness that simply oozes from it's different aspects including plot and filmwork.

The only major problem is that I had expected it to actually go on for about two hours or so until it ended. I would've given it four stars if it were only longer (especially certain *clear throat* scenes).

Wahoo!! Let's grab some beer and go shoot our machine guns at some Nazis!

Inglorious Bastards is a campy cult war flick, high on violence and insanity but a little low on common sense. You've got a bunch of reject U.S. soldiers facing court martial for various infractions, like flying the jetplane to visit their girlfriend a few thousand miles away.

On the way to the military prison the convoy gets hit by some German artillery. This enables a few of the prisoners to escape. This ragtag group decides to head for neutral Switzerland while avoiding the American armies plus the Nazis.

Now along the way there is all sorts of unrestrained madness. The highlight has got to be when they stumble across the female German soldiers skinny dippin in the lake. Allright! Just what you expect to see when running for your life through Europe. The soldiers masquerade as Nazis and get ready for some wet-n-wild fun.

Inglorious Bastards is an entertaining thrill ride that makes war seem like a party. The acting is decent. I recognized the cigar-smokin' Fred Williamson from Rodriquez's classic From Dusk til Dawn.

I'm anxious to see QT's remake, supposedly due out in 2010. Somehow I doubt it resembles this film too much. But PLEEEEASE Quentin, keep the naked nazi chicks with the machine guns. I'm begging you!

A World War II adventure set somewhere in France, The Inglorious Bastards (1978) is solidly entertaining affair, where a group of escaped prisoners become involved in a top secret commando mission. Directed by Enzo Castelari, the movie is an Italian production with an international cast, and features some nicely executed combat scenes, creative cinematography, and interesting European locations.

A group of inmate soldiers is being transported, when their convoy is attacked by a German fighter. Led by Lieutenant Robert Yeager (Bo Swenson) and Private Fred Canfield (Fred Williamson), the surviving prisoners take command, and escape from captivity, heading off in a truck bound for Switzerland. The rest of the "Bastards" are Tony (Peter Hooten), Berle (Jackie Basehart), and Nick (Michael Pergolani). They eventually wind up on foot, where after taking refuge in a barn, they discover a German soldier named Sachs (Raimund Harmstorf) who is willing to help them to escape. Travelling through the French countryside, the group encounters various German forces, and has to fight for their lives several times. Sachs is killed in a skirmish, where a group of Germans is wiped out.

Soon after, the escapees fall into the hands of a group of Partisans. They discover that the German soldiers they just killed, were actually Allied soldiers in disguise. These men, were to have collaborated with the partisans on a top secret mission. American Colonel Charles Thomas Buckner (Ian Bannen) parachutes in to lead the mission, and is furious when discovers that his trained commando team is dead, and his only option is a bunch of misfits and deserters.

It's been a fun ride so far, but things ramp up to a new level as the complicated mission goes into operation. This is where the Bastards really shine, as the various pieces fall nicely into place. Buckner and Yeager impersonate German scientists in order to try and steal a vital V2 rocket component being transported on a train guarded by the German army. Meanwhile the partisans are setting up to take over a railroad station, and blow up a bridge. What follows is a number of nicely executed action scenes, large scale battle sequences, and action aboard the train, that all build up to a dramatic conclusion.

Like many war tales, it isn't necessary to have a lot of depth regarding motivation or character development. Since the Bastards killed the men who were to go on the mission, it seems fair that they take their place. Being an Italian production, many of the actors are dubbed, which kind of colors some of the performances. Bo Swenson (Walking Tall) is rather low key as Yeager, a capable leader that can kill when necessary. Being black, slightly restricts what Fred Williamson's character Canfield can do, but "the Hammer" definitely makes his presence known, and executes his role with style and a brash attitude. Williamson, Swenson, and most of the cast, perform many of their own stunts. Dubbing hides his British accent, and Ian Bannen may not quite look the part as an American General, but his performance still comes across as quite solid. The only thing that seems out of place, is the instant romance between Tony, and Nicole (Debra Berger), a member of the partisans. This is the only tenderness, in a bittersweet tale.

Director Enzo Castelari's commentary track provides lots of background information regarding the production of the film, and the cast. Quentin Tarentino, a huge fan of the film, is featured in an extensive conversation with Castelari, almost gushing with glee at times. This discussion is quite informative, as at the time Tarentino's planned remake (The Inglorious Bastereds) was still in its infancy. In the three disc edition, Disc 2 contains two featurettes, including Train Kept-A-Rollin', an extensive 75 minute retrospective with lots of meaty information, and interviews with Casterlari, Hopkins, Williamson, and various cast and crew members. Disc 3 contains four musical selections from the film's soundtrack.

The Inglorious Basterds (2009), has increased interest in the original film that impressed and inspired Quentin Tarentino so much. This is a good thing, as Enzo Caselari's film is well deserving of a wider audience. The Inglorious Bastards is a tough straight ahead war adventure, with some unassuming and unlikely heroes, who do what needs to be done without any fanfare. "Inglorious" they may be, but they operate with a sense of style, bravely accepting their fate and fighting hard till the end.

Lady Cop and Papa Crook (2011)

Lady Cop and Papa CrookTwo of Hong Kong's most popular talent and pop stars Sammi Cheng and Eason Chan. For Eason Chan, he is still in the main forefront of cinema and music while Sammi Cheng had been on hiatus and taking a break from the entertainment industry.

"Lady Cop & Papa Crook" is Sammi's return to cinema since her 2005 film "Everlasting Regret" and brings back the romantic comedy side of Cheng and the serious side of Eason Chan films. Fortunately, the film has two talented directors and writers involved with Alan Mak (writer of the "Infernal Affairs" films, director for "A War Named Desire", "Final Romance", "Rave Fever") and Felix Chong (writer for "Infernal Affairs" films, "Tokyo Raiders", "Initial D").

The writing duo wanted to create a film that would feature the cops and gangsters having to work together to solve a case and being stuck in one place.

"Lady Cop & Papa Crook" revolves around a illegal diesel kingpin named John Fok (played by Eason Chan). One day as Hong Kong and mainland Chinese were trying to arrest one of his men, the police chase ends tragically as an innocent mother and her son were killed in an accident. Despite being an underground kingpin, John cares for his family including his pregnant wife and his young six-year-old named Jimmy.

Meanwhile, Senior Inspector Maureen Szeto (played by Sammi Cheng) is known for solving cases and busting criminals. Her personal life is not as great as she has been dating a sculptor for a decade and their relationship has not really progressed. In fact, she hasn't had sex for a long time and she has been waiting for marriage and literally losing her patience.

Both John Fok and Maureen Szeto's path would cross when Fok's son is kidnapped. The kidnappers want $80 million dollars while his family members full of members of the Triad or his own organization want to find Jimmy on their own but Szeto who is assigned to the case, reminds Fok that most kidnappings are done by family members and people they know. Chances are that one of the people in his family have some involvement and that the police are known to solve these cases.

Fearing that his child may be killed, John Fok decides to have this uneasy alliance between his family members along with the Szeto and the Hong Kong police. Tempers clash and even the mainland Chinese police force are not too thrilled that Szeto and the HK police are aiding a criminal organization in their case. Will Senior Inspector Maureen Szeto find the young boy in time?

VIDEO:

"Lady Cop & Papa Crook" looks gorgeous on Blu-ray. Cinematography by Yuen Man Fung showcases an artistic side as he uses colors to great effect. Each scene, you can expect blues, reds and sometime a filter utilizing grays with color bursting out. Definitely an HK film that utilizes HD quite effectively.

Blacks are nice and deep, I didn't notice any edge enhancement or major compression artifacts.

AUDIO & SUBTITLES:

"Lady Cop & Papa Crook" comes with a crystal clear lossless Dolby TrueHD 7.1 Cantonese soundtrack and also a Dolby Digital 5.1 Cantonese and Mandarin soundtrack. During the action sequences, you can expect to hear an immersive soundtrack with glass break, vehicles crashing, explosions, etc. Surround channels are used quite effectively throughout the film, especially during the musical sequences. Front channel and center channel feature the dialogue and music and for the most part, dialogue is clear and understandable.

Subtitles are in English and for the most part, English subtitles are well-done with maybe two instances where the subtitles translates "$80 million" to "$80 millions" but having had watched a fair share of Asian cinema with bad subtitling, the subtitles for this film are good and easily readable.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

"Lady Cop & Papa Crook" comes with the following special features (note: There following special feature are only in Chinese, no English subtitles):

* Making of Featurette 1

* Making of Featurette 2

* Making of Featurette 3

* Trailer

JUDGMENT CALL:

For those of you who are familiar with HK films, Sammi Cheng has always been an actress known for romantic comedies. If anything, one would wonder since her breakout with films such as "Feel 100%" and "Needing You" if we would see a Julia Roberts style of transition. The ability for her to take on a main lead role outside of her comfort zone and shine.

With "Lady Cop and Papa Crook", Sammi Cheng plays a police officer and you wonder, could this film be her breakout serious role? But with this film directed by Alan Mak and Felix Chong, the film tries to incorporate Eason Chan and his scenes being more towards the serious side when showing him working in the Triad and then you get Sammi Cheng who plays the comedic cop but yet worrying about if her boyfriend will marry her?

In other words, you still get the romantic comedy Sammi Cheng during her scenes and then you get the serious Triad film with Eason Chan's scenes. The film is enjoyable but among Sammi's films, this is not her best but it's her best looking film courtesy of it being on Blu-ray.

For the Blu-ray release, included is the director's cut which has about seven more minutes and the original theatrical cut. The director's cut has a more fleshed out extended alternate ending that I prefer.

As for audio, definitely really good use with the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 track. From the action scenes to the music, surround channels were used and even a little LFE.

But I do have one bone to pick with this release with Tai Seng Entertainment. Why did they forget to include the English subtitles with the special features. You have three special features included and although the subtitle option is there, they don't work. Sure, this is no different from me having to import the releases since the HK releases tend to only focus on the main film but I figured with Tai Seng and distributing it to the US, they would at least include the English subtitles on the special features and makes me wonder if other Tai Seng Entertainment releases are like that.

But overall, "Lady Cop and Papa Crook" is a fun and entertaining film. And if you can find a good deal on this Blu-ray release and are an HK or Asian cinema fan, it's definitely worth checking out.

I have come to expect Hong Kong films to be saturated with action, bullets, and general mayhem. If you're looking for that, this isn't the film for you. A gang leader has his son kidnapped, and proceeds to his normal modus operandi of sending his men looking for the kid. But then in come the police, led by a slightly flaky female detective, and our gangster is reduced to sitting around worrying about things, but unable to do anything about them. There are a (very) few fights and we spend most of our time locked up in the gangster's mansion watching a police procedural. It's not an awful film, but it's not very entertaining, either.

The Atomic Kid (1954)

The Atomic KidWith all due respect, it doesn't appear that the other reviews of this film ever even saw it or they might give more details. Rooney and Strauss come across a mock town constructed to test the effects of an A-Bomb blast. They don't realized that, of course, and Rooney pokes around in one of the fully stocked houses while Struass goes for help. Rooeny gets caught in the blast and becomes the mearly radio-active "Atomic Kid". Most of the movie's humor involves bringing Rooney back to normal and his mooning after his attending nurse, thwarting enemy agents along the way. And there is a terrific "Oh no, not again" scene to finish things off. If you like Mickey Rooney, or just appreciate the comic style of the 50s, you'll get a blast out of the "Atomic Kid". (Sorry, I couldn't resist that).

For some reason I have remembered seeing this movie from 1954. Had no idea I could buy it, until now. It sticks in my mind as a very funny movie from that time.Nothing like what we have today of course, but very entertaining at that time. In the olden days it was Jerry Lewis, Mickey Rooney ET. AL. In their time, they really entertained us.

The Atomic Kid is a wonderful, period-piece film.In true, 1950's naive film verite, it has Non-Restricted Atomic Testing Sites, regularly clothed soldiers stationed in trenches, one mile from the blast; and, the piece de resistance, Mickey Rooney as a guy who survives the blast while eating a peanut butter sandwich. It's got Greedy Capitalists, trying to commercialize the brand of peanut butter, Swarmy Communists, trying to discover Mickey Rooney's secret: and, best of all, a stunning Co-Star,Elaine Davis. What's not to like ???

Evil Aliens (Unrated & Theatrical Edition) (2005)

Evil AliensI'm gonna try to keep this review short and sweet.

First off, if you don't like low/decent budget, then don't bother.

If you do like gore, then you need to try and watch this.

Ok. Now `Evil Aliens' starts off, right away, with a sex scene (which you see nothing but a dudes booty) where a guy is pounding away like a jack rabbit, right in the middle of some very large stones that form a circle. Now that is just a no no in my horror movie experience. And boy was a I right...especially if you're fond of not getting anal probed by aliens. Woah woah woah my friends. Don't get aroused just yet. Yes, we got aliens destroying a mans backside and cutting a woman's gut open to throw an alien fetus in her belly within 5 minutes of the movies beginning, but that does NOT mean this movie is good. Yet. I almost took the movie out honestly. It got pretty boring even with it's blatant humor. Thank goodness the girl named Michelle Fox was in there showing off cleavage... a lot. So I trudged on through. Michelle Fox works for like a Enquirer type of TV show and she's on a mission to get this girl that's impregnated on her show. By the way, she doesn't believe in it and she just thinks she's just trying to get attention. So on the way to Ireland (I think this is where they went), she grabbed her favorite cameraman and boom operators, an actress to play the part of the prego chick (re-enactment footage), another actor whose gay to play the guy and the alien, and a nerdy kid who is in charge of the British UFO club or something to that matter. They meet the sister and her 3 insane brothers (who are AWESOME). They investigate stuff and film things. Pretty boring first half of the movie.

And then the half way point comes. The baby grows up... inside the prego chick. She rips through the girls face and uses the body as her own. Now I'm awake! What just happened?! I was not expecting this. Then there is a dang showdown in the fields between the aliens and the three brothers that could compete with the O.K. Corral scene in Tombstone. Calm down, I'm seriously just joking about that comment. But the field scene was very fun and had plenty of gore splatter everywhere. The gore doesn't stop there either, there is plenty more to come. Also Michelle Fox became less hot to me and the actress girl became my new favorite. She kinda looks like a hotter version of Rebecca Gayheart... you know... the Noxzema girl. Well she picks up a shotgun and seriously got 10x hotter than Michelle Fox. Blasting aliens away while holding an extra shell in her mouth. LOVE. I couldn't help but just shake my head at the crazy stuff these guys did for the gore in the movie. It was pretty dang fun during the second half.

So yeah, if you can make it through the first half, I'm pretty sure you'll like the second. I was seriously going to give this 1 star until the second half started. By no means is this movie great, but dang if it didn't try..lol.

*EDIT* I forgot to mention, there is no nudity in here. Well a guys booty and two topless aliens (one with three boobs), but that's it.

Normally to see a great 'crowd pleaser' movie you have to watch something from Disney, Spielberg, or Jerry Bruckheimer. But with them you get no crude humor, drug use, or gratuitous amounts of gore. You have to admit, it would be nice just for once to see a movie fearless enought to do that. Enter Evil Aliens a movie made to please a crowd that has no boundries, not even on movie genres. It's part sci fi, part horror, part comedy and it even breaks the rules for those three genres as well. The comedy ranges from oldstyle slapstick to drug references (I can't think of another movie with that range). The gore is so creative and off the wall that it leaves you laughing in amazement, instead of puking in the corner. And it breaks all the rules of sci fi by not being family orientated in any way, shape or form. Let's face it you could watch any of the Star Trek movies with your kids and grandparents. And remember how upset those Star Wars fans were when they saw the original Alien movie because it had blood and was scary. Those same folks would need to change their pants if they saw this. Unfortunately, this great movie didn't get the wide release it deserved. I myself saw it during a midnight madness showing. I am glad it has finally been released on dvd now the many, many people I have been reaving about it to can finally see it.

This movie is unbelievably cool & gory as all get out!! Anyone who's ever enjoyed silly type slapstick horror titles such as "Evil Dead 2", "Army Of Darkness", "Undead", "Dead Alive", "Shaun Of The Dead" (Shaun still did it best hands down :P) or "Feast" will get a swift kick outta this film. Nothing you really need to know plot wise other than there's a show that does investigative reporting in Europe about Aliens & UFO's. A silly rag tag group is assembled to go investigate an Alien abduction. And then just lots of blood, guts, more blood, & more guts. There's more to it than that, but not to spoil things, that's all you'll need to know going in. If you've ever enjoyed any of the films I listed above watch this movie, it's destined to be a classic & you'll love every minute of it!!! "ENGLISH!!!" *Ptew*

Funny,

excessively gross violence, play on aliens and crop circle fanatics.

They must have gone through a vat of molasses for all the blood and

gore. Kind of a Jerry Springer on crack alien movie. If you can live

through the first 10 minutes of this one the rest is gravy. It's got

a good spoof on the song 'Brand New Key' by Melanie, as they mow down

evil aliens with a combine harvester...Fun Welsh anti English

sentiment too. Great punch line in the end.

This is a sweet movie. I agree with the other reviewer jbizzle. Sure it may not appeal to everyone, but it definitely should appeal to fans of the afformentioned films, such as evil dead. It was great gory fun and I can't get enough of movies like this. The 80's was famous for flicks like this; at least the late 80's that brought about extreme gore and over the top type of things. Watch for the part with the combine...classic. I also recently checked out this other low budget flick called Vampire Wars: Battle for the Universe. And I was pleasantly surprised with that movie as well. I recommend checking it out it was a good gory vampire film

Strange Wilderness (2008)

Strange Wilderness***1/2

"Strange Wilderness" is a good-natured, frequently hilarious takeoff on all those nature documentaries that play on the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, and whose pedigree stretches all the way back to the granddaddy of them all, "Mutual of Omaha`s Wild Kingdom." Peter and Fred are the producers of a wildlife series entitled "Strange Wilderness" that has been foundering in the ratings ever since Peter's father, a Steve Irwin-type naturist and the original host of the show, passed away, leaving his less-than-stellar son to carry on his legacy. The sheer scientific illiteracy of much of the commentary that Peter provides for his footage probably hasn't helped matters much in this regard. Now faced with the prospect of series cancellation, Peter and his crew of incompetent dweebs head off to the wilds of South America to file an exclusive report on the famed Bigfoot who has recently been spotted there.

Though adolescent in the extreme, "Strange Wilderness" turns out to be a zany, endearingly random and unflaggingly energetic little comedy whose likable cast is obviously dialed into what the moviemakers are trying to do here. Steve Zahn, Allen Covert, Covert, Ernest Borgnine, Jeff Garlin, Kevin Heffernan, Justin Long and Harry Hamlin seem to be having the time of their lives here and their enjoyment rubs off on us as well.

Is it dumb? Of course it is. Is it lowbrow, inane and hopelessly juvenile? You betcha'. But unlike so many other films that fall into those categories, "Strange Wilderness" has a shrewd mind for parody and a liveliness of spirit that actually make the movie funny. Credit scenarist Peter Gaulke and co-author/director Fred Wolf (who first developed this concept as sketches on "Saturday Night Live") for some excellent joke-writing and pacing and for their willingness to pull out all the stops in their effort to get the laugh. In fact, the crew's ill-fated encounter with Bigfoot is alone worth the price of admission.

This is the all time funniest movie I have ever seen, hands down, bar none, the funniest. I have never laughed so hard or so much during a movie. I don't own many DVDs of movies. I own this one. If you live in a place where it's legal to do so, medicate yourself and your friends and watch this... you don't have to medicate, but it is a stoner movie, so it just adds that little bit of spice to it.... that's not why it's funny though. It is ridiculously funny because of the dialog and situations, the characters... the whole thing is just A++.

If you are a tight a$$ boring old coot, this movie isn't for you... if you like Adam Sandler movies, WATCH THIS!!! Five Frikkin Stars!!

Super Troopers (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (2001)

Super TroopersIn classic, Animal House style, this movie about a squad of bizarre state highway troopers is sure to entertain. While it appears to be what some may call "frat boy" humor, I find that many different kinds of people with a good sense of humor can enjoy this film.

Super Troopers is about a group of Vermont State Troopers, led by Capt. John O'Hagen (Brian Cox) whose department is in danger of shutting down. The governor (Lynda Carter) doesn't have a big budget to spend on police work, and the more professional local cops, lead by Chief Bruce Grady (Daniel von Bargen), are the more likely candidates to get the money in the upcoming budget overhaul. And, to the casual observor, it would be the right choice. The state cops have a tendancy to play games with the people they pull over; one game involves one cop repeating everything his partner says, while another has one of the troopers saying "meow" instead of "now" in an attempt to drive the pulled-over motorist crazy. And when dealing with stoned teens, they really have a blast. While officers Ramathorne (Jay Chandrasekhar), Foster (Paul Soter), Mac (Steve Lemme), and "Rabbit" Roto (Erik Stolhanske) do everything in good humor, the force's black sheep, Officer Rodney Farva (Kevin Heffernan) tends to go too far and get himself suspended and give the department a bad name (he jumped a fast food clerk for messing with him).

But when a murder on the highway is connected with a drug ring, the Super Troopers find a way to redeem themselves and get back in the governor's good gracesas long as the meddling local cops don't solve the case first.

This film is hilarious. While most of the humor is pretty "dumb", there are a few intelligent things here and there, but it is the sheer wackiness of it all that makes it great. The romance between Foster and local cop Ursula Hanson (Marisa Coughlan) is great, especially the prank call sequence. Although, for people who aren't into crude humor, this won't be your kind of movie. There is a lot of drug-based humor, some nudity, and gratuitous use of the f-word. If you can get past that, I highly reccomend this movie.

If you have a sick sense of humor like me, you'll definitely appreciate Super Troopers. It's a very off-beat and funny little movie that shows us into the lives of a state trooper's department somewhere in Vermont. To protect and serve has no meaning here...it's about making us laugh. The plot is about this department trying to save themselves from being shut down due to budget constraints. They desperately need to prove that they are still needed so they don't lose their jobs. So they write lots of speeding tickets, but a drug bust could be their ticket to job salvation. However when you go along for the ride with these troopers, you're in for much more than car chases (yes, you get those too). You get stoned college kids (and I won't ruin it by detailing more...awesome), the repeater, meows, speeding Porsches, syrup chugging, and a ton of wacky little pranks along the way. I could go on all day about Super Troopers but I feel it's a total disservice to someone who has never seen it. I absolutely love this movie and recommend it to anyone who needs a little more silliness in their lives, who loves to laugh and who wants a different comedy than the mainstream things you typically see mass produced by Hollywood where they practically beg of you to find things funny. Super Troopers is just one of those movies I wish they made more of. Enjoy!

Super Troopers presents itself as an odd goofball comedy that has only one real purposeto make you laugh. Thankfully, the movie fulfills this promise, and how.

Generally, movies scripted by comedy troupes can be trusted to entertain. A look at Monty Python and the Holy Grail or the Kids in the Hall's Brain Candy should validate this point. Broken Lizard (the fledgling troupe behind Super Troopers) continue this tradition of hilarious skits centered around a simple plot.

The basic premise of the film involves Vermont Highway Patrol troopers who, due to the lack of crime, find creative ways of alleviating their boredommainly, messing with pulled-over drivers (such as the should-be-famous "meow" scene) and brawling with the local police force.

The jokes constantly remain fresh, and the film even manages to defy the greatest of comedy film curses by never getting boring. Super Troopers is also loaded with some great gags and one-liners not appropriate enough for advertising. (Such as any scene involving the Germans, each one of them greatly funny.)

The DVD is, while not great, definately good. A substantial amount of extras are included containing several extended scenes, and alternate ending, outtakes, trailers, and shameless promotions. (The outtakes aren't what you think they are, and, I'll admit, are a little boring, but stick through it because the Farva Puking segment is priceless.)

Also included are two commentary tracks featuring members of Broken Lizard, the standard scene selections, and some rather impressive menus. (On the main menu, just watch for 30-40 seconds for the butterflyyou'll thank me.)

To sum up, Super Troopers is exactly what it tries to show itself asnothing groundbreaking or innovational, but still an incredibly smart, and most importantly, fun comedy.

"Super Troopers" is almost as funny as it is stupid, and I've got to tell you, it's a pretty funny movie. It's the first movie that's made me laugh out loud repeatedly in the theater since "Best in Show".

The screenplay is almost non-existant, but as Bill Murray once said in "Meatballs," "it just doesn't matter." What makes this quirky movie work is the unresistable funniness of its cast. Kevin Heffernan, as Farva, is particularly funny. In his better moments, he's almost as naturally funny as "SCTV"-era John Candy. And that's saying a lot.

My all-time favorite comedies are the great ones of the late seventies and early eighties I grew up with as a kid--"Stripes," "Caddyshack," "Vacation," "Animal House," "Porky's," etc. I saw some of the wild exuberance of those movies in "Super Troopers".

Yeah, it's a stupid movie, but if you've got the right kind of sense of humor, it's a stupid movie that will make you laugh...very hard. What's better than that?

Super Troopers is a great movie and I would have purchased it on blu-ray regardless of any bonus features. However, I must say I am very disappointed with the game Stupor Troopers. The trivia pops up at random with white text on a bright yellow background, making it almost impossible to read. Also, selecting the answers to the pop up trivia is difficult, but I am using a PS3, not a traditional blu-ray player for what it's worth. Another issue I have is that if you choose to play the game and want to leave the movie, there is no way to jump back in where you left off. I was 45 minutes into the movie, and tried to come back to it later, but I could not resume where I left off, so the rest of the game was ruined for me.

Overall, the film looks great on blu-ray, from every mustache close up to syrup chug. Regardless of my problems with the bonus features, this is a must own for any fan of Broken Lizard and particularly Super Troopers.
